Re: XOP Black Ultra

Post by tinotormed »

Both scores are from Arcade Course on Medium Difficulty.

Rank Style:
tinotormed - 400,823,571 - ALL
http://twitpic.com/6gob1w

Massacre Style:
tinotormed - 139,045,431 - ALL
http://twitpic.com/6goblq

Died stupidly at stage 3 on rank and at stage 4 on massacre, but managed to get through the game. 401mil+ is possible on rank, provided there is more bullet canceling.

More to come tomorrow.

Nice scores! :)

Any mode you're trying to focus on in the future or are you just trying them all out? I noticed you haven't posted a score for Original, be sure to check out this classic of a mode, highly recommended.

In Rank mode on Medium I suppose that 600-700mill are definitely possible. I need to practice this mode some more to refine my strategies.

Arcade Course - Maniac Mode - Medium Skill
Plasmo - 100,784,327 - Stage 5

Had quite a lot of bad luck during stage 5 and lost all my lives there. Especially the big purple enemies that clear the screen are quite difficult even on Medium. Don't have a safe way how to deal with these monsters yet. Oh well, at least 100mill.

Thanks! And sure, I am going for all of the modes. I am taking Cancel last as it is really difficult to handle. Original and Maniac will come by.

Looking forward to any new scores from you. Replays are easy to record and always nice to watch btw. :)

About Cancel...this mode really seems to be messed up somehow at least on the easier difficulties. It surprisingly gets easier if you play it on advanced or expert diff.

Tackled Original and managed to pull it off on the 3rd credit.

Arcade Course - Medium Difficulty

Original Style:
tinotormed - 125,441,167 - ALL
http://twitpic.com/6h92t3

EDIT:

More scores! Same course, same difficulty level.

Maniac Style:
tinotormed - 70,880,916 - ALL
http://twitpic.com/6hm5li

Doom Style:
tinotormed - 122,463,573 - ALL
http://twitpic.com/6hm6q8

Cancel Style:
tinotormed - 114,467,746 - ALL
http://twitpic.com/6hq2iu

That was close on Cancel. I thought I was gonna mess up on that mode.

Work just kills me these days. I'd love to post more scores, but can't do so yet. Don't worry, I'm becoming motivated as hell for Original and Rank mode. Who would have thought that boss point blanking is so much fun... I appreciate the shot patterns much more than before point blanking them. I should be able to break at least 200mill on Original this or next weekend.

Good pointblanking is enough to beat him down. Every boss and midboss times out after 30 seconds. I am too late against him, however.

93 million after stage 2 in Original. If only I could limit myself to only one dumb death per run.

@tinotormed
So now that you have the basics down, which mode are you going to focus on for further score attack? :)

@Battletoad
Good going, stage 2 is by far the hardest one! Lots of risks to be taken there in order to score.

Nah, I am only here to tackle a single difficulty here or two.

Good things come to those who take a break. Or how do you say? ;P
Anyway after a short break my first credit turned frustration into fun again, not to forget a nice score.

Arcade Course - Original Mode - Medium Skill
Battletoad - 215,202,674 - ALL - Replay

One miss no bomb. Dumb death in stage 3 made me curse a lot, but I got back on track and finished my goal. Tons of luck in stage 5 compensated the death anyway, must watch the replay again just for this alone. My aggressiveness in this stage was rather uncontrolled and many times I saw bullets way too late which could have easily killed me.

Sorry though Plasmo, I probably won't try to beat your score.

First ever credit in that mode. Seems incredibly easy since you can replenish bombs practically instantly and then you use them to score... I'll have to try it again on a higher difficulty.

Just tried some XOP boozed... did not go so well...

Doom strategy revolves around having a reflect at all times, and using them at the right time. I'd say it's very similar to a Deathsmiles or Deathsmiles IIX where you're constantly raking DAL coins and bombing. Fun stuff.

Stage 2, Cancel mode - How do you beat the midboss?

:?
Replying to these old posts since no-one else did ..

Basically, in cancel mode, if you blow up an enemy before it's fired a certian threshold of shots, it releases revenge bullets. This means that on the easier difficulties you have to let them fire a few shots before you blow them up in order to make it "safe" and not have them release revenge bullets. For popcorns that never fire anything on easier difficulties, shoot them quickly or don't shoot them at all.

To beat the st.2 midboss before timeout, just bomb him. In cancel mode, bombing turns bullets into purple coins (similar to how it worked in the old XOP Black on Insane). You will need to hit him with 100% of 3 bombs (stay on top and don't move away even for a second) in order to kill.

Scoring in cancel mode is a fine line between shooting enemies when they've fired the max number of cancellable bullets on screen, while avoiding accidentally killing enemies that haven't fired enough bullets yet, and using bombs on bosses.

Also, I noticed there's no EX scores posted .. let's change that :P

This isn't nearly as optimal as it could be, but it's a good starting point.

EX Course - Original - Medium
udd - 176,615,723 - ALL

I don't understand, I didn't ever change the demo version numbers for XOP Black Ultra, or even update the .exe. Not even once.

Are you sure you didn't accidentally try to play it under XOP Black Ultra Special?

The XOP Black Ultra .exe should be dated 6/16/2011 6:52:38pm and 544,768 bytes.

Also I can't grab your replays off megaupload to test, because it's dead .. D:

I have the same version.

In the replay you die on the first stage, maybe there's an error with the .dmo file? Or have you changed something in the config menu (don't know if this can actually be a source for errors at all or if I'm totally off)?

I'll upload all my replays with new links during the next hours. Luckily I still have them all except my XOP Black (no Ultra), EX2, Very Hard diff, 39mill. Does anybody still have this replay? Pleeeease upload it somewhere for me...

Here's my Massacre 171mill replay for XOP Black Ultra, tell me if it runs correctly: Replay

I have found the source of the error. I forgot to include the Auto Overdrive setting in the demo recordings, so if it's not what was set during the demo recording, it will desynch. I recorded mine with Auto Overdrive on. I guess from now on you're going to have to label if your demo was recorded with Auto Overdrive or not. (Obviously this only effects demos recorded on Original as it's the only mode with Overdrive)

There has been an update to XOP Black Ultra and XOP Ultra which enables online leaderboards, but only for certain modes and difficulties. For now I'm sticking with Advanced Difficulty and Original Mode in XOP Black Ultra. I'm ZZZ in the leaderboards, and I find XOP Black Ultra Special too hard so I figure this is my best opportunity to get my ass handed to me.

The update can be found at the Toastsoft website.

Documenting my progress, which I admit is slow going when I'm game hopping:

XOP Black Ultra Original Medium - 72,394,493 (All)
XOP Black Ultra Original Advanced - 30,776,748 (3rd stage)
XOP Black Ultra Massacre Advanced - 71,026,334 (3rd stage)

Advanced Original Stage 1 is a pain in my ass for some reason. Stage 2 seems easier (and funner) to me. In Stage 3 the bullets are faster and thus hard to adjust to quickly.

I've dabbled in the EX stages as well. But those will come later, perhaps much later.
