I DID IT, 10,000,000+α!!! No Miss up to 2-7, think I could have cleared Loop 3 too but I died to the 2-8 boss just after the score rolled over to 10m.

Another Toaplan loop clear I'd been wanting to get for a while. It's crazy how much easier the 2P version is than the 1P version. Still a fun time, though! Perhaps I should try looping the 1P version one day...

Finally managed to get a clear of the game, this was in my backlog for an absurd amount of time.

Funnily enough, the same thing in 1-9 happened to me at pretty much the same spot because of the exact same green item (and this was a great no-miss run until then), this one is so treacherous.
(it's also the occasion to say congrats on getting the plus alpha later on :o )

I'll try to clear the 1P version loop 1 next, even though it will probably take ages.

In a conversation I had with smc recently we actually found out a consistent way to avoid it, bombing the 2nd wave of yellow planes (the one near the start of the stage where they come from the bottom) makes another blimp appear that normally gets despawned because there's too many enemies on screen, which advances the item table and changes the green item to a power item.

That's nice to know, thanks for the tip.

Same! Same! Same! - 1p version
ZPS - 3,352,640 - 02-01-01 - Yes - ShmupMAME 4.2

FINALLY got this clear. By far the hardest 1cc I've done so far. No Miss up to Stage 8, then I got a bit checkpoint helled, and only cleared because I just so happened to get 2.27 million points right when I was about to die on my last life and got the extend and was able to do the final checkpoint.

I thought one has to use the flame weapon to be more safe against the kamikaze planes but I've just cleared the MD version on easy so far.
I guess its not necessary if you have memorized every attack pattern ;)

It is useful on the big plane sections in Stage 3 and 8, some people like to use it in Stage 5 too but there's only 3 planes and you need 3 items to cycle back to blue, and with random item movement that gives you a decent chance of being stuck with red (or even worse, green). Some people also use it near the end of Stage 9 because of the blue weapon's shot limit but I prefer to stick to blue there too.

One of the downsides with the red weapon in 1p too is that it makes enemy bullets slightly faster. As far as I'm aware this is exclusive to 1p, it doesn't happen in 2p or Fire Shark.

Thanks for the Hints. I thought about the middle part of level 9 too and the first third of the 10th one because of some attacks from behind.

VERSION - Mega Drive JP, Normal difficulty
PLAYER SIDE - 1p
SCORE - 1138320
AREA - 9
AUTOFIRE - Yes
DETAILS - JP cart + JP MD

Breakthrough score after a solid week of playing. 1cc feels achievable from here, but no need to jinx myself:

Is it okay to use the Retro-Bit Fire Shark cart? I just 1CCed the game using the Retro-Bit cart in my Japanese Mega Drive, so it does say Same! Same! Same! on the title screen, and I'd like to post my score if I can. My photography skills are garbage and I rushed to take a picture before the screen went away, so the picture is extremely blurry, unfortunately.

That should be fine. As far as I know, it's a regular old US ROM. I don't know if there are any actual differences between US and JP ROMs, but I do know that they're separate ROMs to begin with for some reason. I guess just say you used the Retro-Bit release?

Alright, thanks. In that case, I'll do that. It does seem to be the US ROM but with updated title screens, and it does change to Same! in any Japanese Mega Drive. I actually beat my old score, so I have a better picture now as well. I do post my scores over at AtariAge sometimes, including this one, so let me know if you need me to verify it or something.

Mega Jet is awkward to play on and gets a bit uncomfortable after about 20 minutes, but it has incredible audio and video, so I like using it. I don't think I'd recommend it to anyone else, though.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Is the Mega Jet like the 6-button controller? It sure looks like it. I can't imagine that helps either.

Yeah, it's a built-in 6 button controller. The positioning of the A and X buttons is a bit awkward and the system itself is quite thick. It's pretty wide as well, but it's really the thickness of the body that makes it awkward more than anything else. It's actually very light, though, and the overall build quality is excellent, and it has the same d-pad and buttons as a regular 6-button controller.

I love the way it sounds, which is the main reason that I like using it. I was absolutely shocked when I plugged it in for the first time and saw how incredible its audio and video are. I believe my reaction was "HOLY SHIT!!!!!" or something to that effect. It's basically a small Mega Drive 2 and my regular Mega Drive 2 doesn't sound very good at all, so I was expecting it to not sound great, but it has the best audio out of my 5 Mega Drives, including my VA4 Mega Drive. There's some noise in the headphone jack when there is no sound playing, but it's great otherwise.

I don't think anyone has posted a PS4 or Switch score for anything but Tiger-Heli yet, so I guess I'll do it first for Same! on Same! 2P version.

Still need more practice. No miss to stage 6. After accidentally picking up the flamethrower just before killing the stage 5 boss, I got killed for being greedy for the blue spread shot on stage 6 and followed that with a shameful chain death on stage 7, a stage that I suck at horribly. I think this is looking to be my second arcade 1CC after Thunder Force AC and my first Toaplan arcade 1CC.

I'm going to need a lot of practice and way more skill to make progress in this version. I'm somehow 7th place on the Switch leaderboard even with a game over on stage 3, though, so maybe I don't feel so bad now lol.
