Sengeki Striker

Post by Ed Oscuro »

More information has been coming in about this game lately, so please note which version you are playing - Japan or Asia. "MAME defaults" please! Saucykobold says Japan is easier. Also, if you would like please note if you're using autofire, and how you are playing the game (i.e. a version of MAME or original hardware). I'm expecting scores up into the hundreds of millions if not billions :)

Don't forget to save your bombs at the miniboss!

Update 6/2/2014: Now that some sunlight has been shone onto Sengeki Striker by Week 3 of TRP-STGT for 2014, we should indeed be seeing scores of 1,000,000,000+ points! Trap15 recorded a video of play which can be found here.

Score format: Name - Score - Stage - Region - Autofire? (if On, what setting, i.e. the number in MAME; if a physical adapter for the PCB, what's the setting) - Format played (MAME, PCB?)
(Autofire setting not mandatory, just nice to include.)

Important Rules: One credit only, play only from the beginning of the game, DO NOT CONTINUE. Difficulty settings shamelessly cribbed from trap15:
DIP SWITCH/CONFIGURATION SETTINGS
Difficulty: >>>>
Extend Score: 20m 50m
Initial Playable Units: 3
i.e., use MAME default settings.

Pretty good. Did you happen to note what your autofire setting shots setting was? The Shmupmame default is 1. I don't know if that would help or hurt scoring, but I'd like the infos.

Just used the MAME+ default, which is the highest possible rate I guess. One tap every other frame.

This game is evil. I still kinda enjoy it, though. For some reason, my best score from level 1 is a lot better than the one I got when I made it to level 2...

Me too! I've been trying for a day to drop the wrong plane on the boss (the tan one that comes from above later). I dropped the right one accidentally. The tan plane was only getting me around 50-70M points (stage total up to that time). I was trying something pretty complicated, trying to dodge the tank's fire without shooting it and then knocking small popcorn enemies on top of it. Too bad I don't know stage 2 well enough to survive longer in it! This means it's also time to do a proper score update (not a stealth update like I've been doing before):

Ed Oscuro - 142,283,470 - Stage 2-1 - Asia - AF ON / 3 - Shmupmame v2

Also, I approve of the new avatar bkk!

Best part of the game.

Only posting because I doubt I'll play again:

Improved my score somewhat. Annoyingly, just as I dropped the plane on the tank to get the 100M+ bonus, I died and the game over kicked in before I got the extra lives!

DocHauser - 134,813,780 - Stage 1-3 - Asia - AF OFF

Made it to Stage 2-4 a few times but didn't get anywhere near as good a score. There's a bit around 2-3 that has some large, stationary planes on the ground which looks like a good place to rack up some bonus points, but I think I've only got around 30M or so on that part so far.

The Japanese version is quite a bit easier.

Added a new table just for you, I'll give that version a spin when I can.

Also confirmed my new Sengeki cart / motherboard works, though the bass is pretty high and it warps so much that it goes mute when there's a lot of sound effects. Dunno what that's about. But I may get a PCB score in here for that table too!

Played this a bit more recently. The Japanese version appears to have the same amount of bullets on-screen, except they move quite a bit slower. The game is actually fairly playable as a result (as opposed to being an exercise in masochism).

One question I had about the autofire, because I'm wondering how people managed to get it working. I'm using shmupmame 2.2 and I just set the autofire on for button 1, but this just enagages the autofire for your ship's main weapon - the support ships don't shoot. Obviously, this makes it more of a hinderance than an advantage...

Ok, as you're asking for it, here's my trpstgt score, and this way there's a higher chance of me attempting better score in the future..

Lost a bunch of lives is stage 5 boss in first loop because picked vulcan insted laser, that was almost time over. It's very very hard to get any consistency in this game! I have lots of moments of luck, but I am happy because I got the 2-ALL, in some moments I thought which I could not do.

Update:
Third_strike - 1,153,461,000 - 2-ALL - Japan - AF ON / 1 - Shmupmame4.2
Back to the game, this time I was so dirty like I could be in stages 4 boss fights

Played very safe and did game last even more than necessary. Bugged 2-2 boss timeouted 1-4 and 2-4 bosses. Real bomb fest, I started to bomb in stage 1-2 and don't stopped more. I am dirty!
