I would have figured there would be more scores for this game. We need a Border Down (Solar) Defense Force or something. :D

arcade mode
Enhasa - 47,853,420 - G G GY / GY Y YR / YR R R / Y YR R / Y Y YR

I've spent an embarrassing amount of time with this game not to have a better score. I'm not done yet! I don't know if I want to continue to try to go for the 1cc on the downrank route, switch to something like DEL's, or try for the green 3rd boss route.

Using the laser effectively in this game makes you feel like such a badass. No prize for guessing where I died.

Arcade Version

Image

ebeb - 293,793,260 - R R R / Y Y Y / G G GYR / YR R R / YR R R / YR R R - ALL (6D)

I got hooked on Border Down a couple of months ago, and I've been trying to get the 6D clear for the past week. What a great game.
I wonder if a 6C route may be higher scoring than a 6D route, since 6C is significantly more lucrative than 6D.

That's quite the score. Did you happen to record the replay? Also, can you explain that 56M 6-D score on #5?

Unfortunately, I didn't record my run. OBS caused demul to slow down as I was recording, and that's what I've always used to record. If anybody has any ideas about screen recorders that may be lighter weight, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'll have to wait until I get a better computer.

For the 56M run, I just credit fed while spending enough time on the red border to see the last stage, since I wanted to see the ending. I wasn't really concerned about score.

I'm still aiming to get over 300M. I had a suboptimal Stage 1 (28 mil), a very sloppy stage 2 (~7 mil), died too early in the yellow border of Stage 4, and I left about 6 mil on the table for the first phase of Giga Balanus. I have a day off today, so with any luck I'll make some progress.

That's a big score ebeb. I see you did some credit feeding practice runs which is a good idea. I did this too back in 2003 to have a first look at ST6D.
But what I don't understand is -> Where are the dozens if not hundreds of full 1 credit runs? I see just 2. A 193mil and a 293mil.

56mil practice then immediately to 193 and 293mil. A 293mil doesn't just represent a perfect 999 Break ST3A but also a highly squeezed ST5 Boss as well. I must admit that I had no access to any Japanese replays back in 2003/4.

Congrats!

My 56 mil run had to be months ago, as I was figuring out the basics of the game. Whenever I messed up on runs when I was going for the 1cc, I just savestated back to the beginning of Stage 1, which was much faster than resetting or going through yet another game over.

The nice thing about the latest version of demul is that it supports savestates: I just kept practicing the really tough parts for weeks, and this makes the game much, much easier. The next time I wanted to beat the game, I made sure I mastered the Stage 2 boss, Stage 3 break, Stage 3 red boss, final part of Stage 4 boss, and all the parts of the Stage 5 boss, where 80% of my runs came to an end. Plus, I was to practice Stage 6, which is a huge advantage. I can't imagine playing this game with the ability to practice using save states, or seeing Japanese replays.

I did get a 999 break on the stage 3 boss, but my Stage 5 boss was awful. However, I did very well on Stage 6. The good news is, by lowering the video quality and closing every other application on my computer (and updating my drivers, closing unnecessary processes, etc.), I'm able to record with no slowdown. So expect to see a video soon, once the stars align and I complete another run without getting killed by Giga Balanus.

Excellent. I had to figure you'd used savestates. Must have been invaluable for the key sections - the ST3A 999 and learning the ST6D choreography.
I never had savestates, in fact I was playing blind on a Naomi in an actual arcade in 2003/4. So it was full runs and slow progress. I did the Red Route which as you know, doesn't have the scoring potential of the ST3A 999 Break route. Nevertheless, big respect to you for pulling it all off! An extremely hard route.
Great Stuff :D

After a long ass time playing and streaming this game, crashing left and right, I finally got my clear. Lost 2Mil for not getting the cone on the 2nd boss, and a bunch of puntos for pussying 6D in yellow. Will keep playing until I get 300Mil+

Yes, 6D! Maybe DEL can confirm this.

May I ask you why you want to know about your old score? Do you plan a comeback?

Well, I had a *student* discovering my old posts and scores on this forum.

I mostly forgot about them, so reading these materials after years of (gaming) inactivity and gradual loss of memory left me a bit perplexed. I re-read my own strategy guide and it felt like someone else's work, I dare say.

Regarding BD, I would need to retrieve my DC and the game, and I am currently working in a country near to your current location (eh!). Alternatively: how powerful a PC should be, to emulate the game?

Thanks in advance for the answers.
