Spark Spectra

Post by Aru-san »

First product on page to download Spark Spectra. Stupid me for hotlinking.

It all started with a mistake over at Plasmo's Yalkina STG thread, posting scores on Spark Spectra and not reading all of the post for the high score thread. After playing this challenging game for a while, I've decided to start a simple high score thread on it.

This game contains 5 bosses and a really difficult endboss. Music depends on the player's tastes (I personally don't mind it). Z and X are the shot buttons and C is the bomber.

Submit in this format:
Name - Score - Time

Code: Select all

NO | Name                 | Score       | Timer
=================================================
01 | tinotormed           | 4,748,042   | 63592
02 | Fu                   | 4,336,438   | 58689
03 | Plasmo               | 3,419,965   | 57709
04 |                      |             |

Plasmo - 1,885,510 - 57885

Reached the infinity stage and died stupidly. Could've been much higher. To be honest, I don't have a clue how the scoring system works and thus my score is probably complete rubbish, because I just kill everything and try to stay alive. :cry:
Would be much more fun if I actually know what's going on there.

SCORING SYSTEM
Charge gauge at bottom screen by grazing and killing.
Wait for an enemy barrage (preferably with large enemies).
Position yourself in the center (x-axis wise) of said enemy barrage.
Tap Z a few times and LET 'EM RIP!

Rinse and repeat. If you want my replay of 2.7 million points, I can give you the link.

Yes please!
Isn't there some chaining depending on the enemy colours going on?

There is, but I don't care too much on the color chaining. But here's the info:

COLOR CHAIN SYSTEM

If your last enemy that you hit was a certain color, you need to hit an enemy from a certain collection of colors to retain it.

Example:
If the last enemy hit was green, to continue the chain, you need to hit a green, light blue, or a yellow enemy to keep the chain. Hitting blue, purple, or red will break the color chain. Color chaining is individual (unlike Radiant Silvergun/Ikaruga).

COLOR CHAIN CHART
Green -> Green, Light Blue, Yellow
Blue -> Blue, Light Blue, Purple
Red -> Red, Yellow, Purple
Light Blue -> Anything but Red
Yellow -> Anything but Blue
Purple -> Anything but Green

White enemies add to the chain, but the previous color chain rules apply (i.e. hit a yellow, then a couple of whites, to continue the chain, you need to hit any enemy that isn't blue).

Personally, I don't really care too much about the color chain seeing that the scoring only goes up by small increments.

Here is the replay. Really, this stupid endboss is starting to PISS ME OFF!

Plasmo - 3,419,965 - 57709

Scored a bit using that Z attack. It's especially important on bosses when their health is low. You get 300k from that last boss alone if you kill it with Z.
Nice replay Aru, but next time, use more bombs please. You could've easily beaten that last boss. :wink:

Yeah. When I got this game mixed up with Yalkina STG, I sort of...DIDN'T use bombs. And I know that using the Z tap attack is essential for boss scoring. When I hear that LA CHANCE signal, that's when I use it.

On that replay, I should have used the Z tap attack on the boss, but I wasn't sure if LA CHANCE would pop up for that bastard when its health was low.

Also...YOU GOT A HIGHER SCORE THAN MEH. :o No worries! It just tells me to TRY HARD!

In case you didn't now, there's an 8,5mill replay in the replay folder, impressive stuff. The rank gets absolutely insane during the extra stage.
Oh and yeah, beat mine and post a score plz, so I have a reason to play this again.

Fu - 3,996,290 - 54,504
I think 10M can be reachable, it's just that the last boss blows up all the lives...

Edit :
Fu - 4,336,438 - 58,689
Ok maybe not 10M :x

I always look for games that may clearly let loose my mind and are awe-inspiring. If I clearly found the game enjoyable and easy to play, I start up one.
Nah- I meant how do you display hi score tables in the game? it saves my score but I can't see an option to display them.
Also, doesn't colour chaining fill your energy gauge too, making it more important?

No idea about it since I only use Fraps. Maybe Plasmo has some idea about it.

Oh well- the mystery continues. I get that it's R to display replay but there's no mention of any other menu options.
And how do you access the Extra mode mentioned in the manual?
Great game for scoreplay but :D

For Extra mode, there is no other way to access it but to clear the last endboss of the game. In Extra, enemies come and go from every direction, firing bullets at you that are nearly tough to dodge.
