Re: GB Gradius/Nemesis AND Interstellar Assault(New Thread)
To spadgy: I have one question for GB Nemesis, below 2 lives are also acceptable? As if like I want to start off with no lives and then I gather them in later levels, right?
Re: GB Gradius/Nemesis AND Interstellar Assault(New Thread)
My thinking on this is: The early stages are easy enough that "Gradius syndrome" difficult stage re-entries are not a big deal until you've started to amass lives and gathered a high enough score to get on the list, and at that later point it's best just to try to get back into play. It's not like Gradius Galaxies / Generation / Advance where I have it set to 0 extra lives because stage re-entry is a pain in the behind.tinotormed wrote:To spadgy: I have one question for GB Nemesis, below 2 lives are also acceptable? I'm not sure I fully understand. You're setting the lives to 0, effectively to replace the need to quit out when you die the first time? Is that right?Ed Oscuro wrote:My thinking on this is: The early stages are easy enough that "Gradius syndrome" difficult stage re-entries are not a big deal until you've started to amass lives and gathered a high enough score to get on the list, and at that later point it's best just to try to get back into play. The only context in which this would be relevant in terms of scores being applicable here would be this: Does starting with 0 lives effect your score?
Anyway - updating PlasmaBlooD's score now...
Re: GB Gradius/Nemesis AND Interstellar Assault(New Thread)
Right - significant thread update. Fixed a few errors - especially those relating to levels/loops etc. Tidied up and made nicer.

Re: GB Gradius/Nemesis AND Interstellar Assault(New Thread)
You mean affect the entire score? Well, I played the game, and I guess it DOSEN'T. If you manage to survive the entire onslaught for long, then more lives are awarded to you. I promise ya. Extends start with 60k.spadgy wrote:I'm not sure I fully understand. You're setting the lives to 0, effectively to replace the need to quit out when you die the first time? Two games, two totally different strategies.spadgy wrote:I'm not sure I fully understand. You're setting the lives to 0, effectively to replace the need to quit out when you die the first time? Gradius Galaxies is such that I set the extra lives to 0. You don't get any more (as far as I've played on one life). "Clean" play in that game (for me) means that I don't like restarting in random spots. Ought to be damn difficult anyway given how stupidly slow the ship is without any speed ups (also worth mentioning the game doesn't seem to have any revert-to-no-powerups option in the ? as normal; they broke a few things in Galaxies).
In the GB Gradius games, you get lives often enough that it's sensible to keep going. Recovery from a death is quite possible. Starting with no lives would just be a handicap, instead of a playing aid.

how do i put my high score on the chart
Re: Game Boy Gradius/Nemesis AND Interstellar Assault
Post it in a comment, then Spadgy will work the magic (as he is the "owner" of the initial post with editing rights, as you are of your post; typical forum workings). Also keep in mind that this means that you can't sneak one past us Of course with this old game you shouldn't have to. Good luck!Damien villines wrote:how do i put my high score on the chart

Ed Oscuro's dead right, but where's that score Damien villines?! Submit it to us. New scores are always welcomed and encouraged, good or bad!
Re: Game Boy Gradius/Nemesis AND Interstellar Assault
He's dead, Jim
I'll have to get to it and play IA sometime for a score.
Surprised that after all this time nobody has taken down my Nemesis score yet...I should try again and go for the million / counterstop / whatever happens once you get past 999,999.

If he's gone, Ed Oscuro, we need somebody to get involved in this high score board again. I'd guess you'd better chase that counterstop!

I may be no tviks, but I sure know what he is thinking.
Gradius/Nemesis GB
tinotormed - Stage 8-1 - 1,333,000
Managed to take advantage of the bonus stages to accomplish the earlier loops quickly, but I screwed up at the 2nd bonus stage at loop 6. Had to stop by using up all of my lives at 8-1, as I couldn't get far on playing this game. Besides, an average Gameboy only uses around 2 to 4 hours of battery life, depending on whether it is alkaline or a regular one.
Btw, there was a glitch in-game in which when you start playing the game from scratch after playing it for long, you get 1 mil in your score. I dunno if this was really true in the real hardware.

Re: Game Boy Gradius/Nemesis AND Interstellar Assault
If you got to loop 8 then 1.3 million doesn't sound far off. I don't remember getting any sudden spike in my score, and I certainly didn't get a 1 million point one.
I never ran out of battery life on my GB Pocket (non-light) when doing this, and that seemed like a battery hungry model to me.

Updated. Amazing stuff stoka. And do correct me if I'm wrong... stage 45 is stage 8-5, right?
Re: Game Boy Gradius/Nemesis AND Interstellar Assault
I just finished my first 1cc ever and got so excited that I died right quick in the first level of the second loop!
Krysno - Stage 2-1 - 195,600
Not an impressive score, but I see that slot number 12 is available...

Nemesis II (Konami GB Collection Vol.3)

I played this on Hard mode and it's still easy peasy, will try second loop someday.

Is spadgy still around? If he is no longer active, somebody needs to take control of the thread soon.
