Yeah, I agree with SiKrAiKeN that an additional stage highscore table is pointless because in order to play for a good stage score you have to sacrifice all your lifes in that particular stage. Which isn't actually any fun or good scoring wise for the game.

To make my point, I made this:

Image

In order to beat my stage 1 score you HAVE to sacrifice your lifes in the first stage. But that is pointless. Esspecially considering you'd like to do that for each stage. It would be different if stages could be selected individually or only your first life of the stage counted. That's offcourse only my opinion and you can simply keep the stage score table if you like. :)

Certainly there's no harm in having the individual stage score table, but I got to agree that it is pretty pointless. I just posted the pic so everyone could see how my highscore was distributed with the stages. I certainly won't bother maximizing every single stage's score by suiciding. That would be extremely boring. :D

Maybe posting the individual stage scores for the top score of the highscore table would be a good idea, as people could see where the player got how many points from.

The stage score makes sense if it is "kept together". As an additional info to a run. In my opinion at least.

All right then.

I thought it would be fun, but maybe I'm a r-type nerd.

One-life'ing the first loop now, but the second loop is a different animal. The Wicks in level 10 are much more aggresive and one of them got my first life, d'oh.

Edge, I'm afraid you fell off the list - Like I said, I intend to keep only the top 10 scores like the game does - sorry

No, problem at all. I wasn't so confident about my scores in this game anyway. :)

Would you mind telling me whether your score was made on mame, PSX or original PCB board? :-)

I played R-Types on PSX.

R-Type and R-Type II are a little bit harder on PSX.

I am REALLY impressed. The best score is awesome.
1939500, what a great score.

Did you try to clear the game without using your beam ? I did, and I made it !
Did you try to clear the game without using your force ? I did, and I lost my last R-9 in level 14...

This game allows you to experience so many challenges, that's why it's one of my favorites shmups of all time.

My favorite shmup is Super Aleste (I cleared it in all modes). But, if you know the french website www.shmup.com, you know it...and maybe, you know me, pal !

Arcade All Clear - 2.181.300 pts
http://benjamin.bouloch.free.fr/replays/rtypescore.jpg

I used all my 8 lives (7 miss) to leech on the boss of stage 7.
I've scored 1.121.700 pts on the st 1-7.
The Arcadia record seems to be 2,477,000 but I think that's only possible if you have 5 starting lives.
No, it's possible with default setting but you need to destroy EVERYTHING in the game and leech on st 1-7 with all lives.
I know this because I've got a video superplay by Shipeg who score to 2.442.100 pts (the world record: 2.482.000 pts by SENGOKUNIN) and he scores 1.226.300 pts on st 1-7.

At least in terms of score, the best R-Type player in France.

I just couldn't resist saying that.

I'm impressed, really. Since you said 'arcade', I suppose you played the original PCB? Right?

The current world record is certainly owned by SENGOKUNIN with 2.482.000, but he used autofire (probably one of those built-in autofires they have in japanese cabinets)
I'm starting to feel I should dust up my PCB again. I should defend my position.

No, I play on mame. I like the PSX version also.
I'm looking for the pcb but it's so difficult to find...

In this case, I'm sure everybody here would greatly appreciate if you record an input file for your next entry and post a link to it, especially you who are using mame and are pushing near or through the world record!

I know it's been over two years, but Shige's 2,442,100 point run can be found at the bottom of this page. To watch it, you'll need to dl Mame32 Plus 0.78, available here.

I never managed to watch the replay because there was an error message saying .bin files were not found.
2 years after, I realized the current rom includes these files but in an incorrect format.

Maybe because I've got older (and maybe bit softer in the head) I've decided to re-enter yojo!'s and edges entries; meaning that everyone who submits scores is welcome, no matter how low :)

I think that's the better idea, only 10 scores allowed is not much.
