(Repost as post disappeared) So true - and in many entertainment options in life too. Like golf, you get to hit the ball more for the same price if you stick. Or bowling - a super skilled bowler only gets half as many balls.

More on topic though, I've also credited DDP's first loop - everything else I've credited is relatively insignificant in difficulty compared to it.

I don't own it myself, I've only played it in arcades so I assume it would be on the default configuration.

I'll play it again and get back to you with tips on the bubble stage, sorry I can't remember it very well.

Ok, cool. By configuration I was referring to missle/double/laser/shield type you used rather than the game settings. Configuration probably wasn't the best word for that question.

Anyway, IV looked like a cool game, I would always just get frustrated with the bubble level and lose steam. Is there a trick to getting through it or do you just need to practice it a lot?

i'm speaking, under the assummption that the ps2 port on defaults is the same.

for me it was just practice. i can't get past it anymore (there was a period where i didn't play for a few months). another thing i did, don't know if it is unorthodox or not is hide under the terrain to escape the bubble field, they gennerally put the bubble spawners at the end of these spaces though so it can be dangerous. the boss just took a long time to take out, because i would do it really passive-aggressively. spend my reflexes taking out his bubbles, and just let my lasers dig at his core if/when the happen to pass by.
I have no sig whatsoever.

The other captain has given you a much better description then I could ever amount to.... 8)

So, yeah follow those strats and practise. I spent about a week to get the 1cc of it when holiday-ing in Melbourne (Different Australian city with specialist arcades).

Could of sworn I'd done this once already... still, here's my paltry list:

Delta - C64
Nemesis - C64
Gynoug - Mega Drive
Super Aleste - SFC
Super R-Type - SFC
UN Squadron - SFC
Batsugun - Saturn

A small list, but hell I enjoy myself.

I've been meaning to post something here for a while... here we go.

All games were 1CCed on their default settings unless otherwise listed.

NES:
Dragon Spirit (The arcade game is sadistic, but the NES version is easy. Go figure.)
Crisis Force (Wow, this game is awesome! Dunno why it's Egyptian themed, but ... still, damn!)
Gun-Nac (As usual for Compile, it's fast, intense, and fun; yet it's easy as hell due to excess 1-ups.)
Lifeforce (I always thought it was two words, but the title screen clearly makes it just one. At any rate, one of the finest games for the NES.)

Arcade:
Dodonpachi (My first Cave 1CC!)
Mushihme-sama (on ordinary and maniac... ultra? Umm, no. )
Giga Wing
Gradius
Batsugun SE

PC (only games that matter listed):
Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (Tohou Koumakyou)
Perfect Cherry Blossom (Touhou Youyoumu)
Imperishable Night (Touhou Eiyashou - Some say PCB is harder than this one, but IN takes the difficulty cake if you ask me.)
GUNDEADGLINE (waaaay easier than the first one)
Kamui (full version - great game but your bullet-eating laser makes it soooo easy)
Excess Fraction (full version)
Cho Ren Sha 68K
Gekka Ibunroku: Tsukihime no Shiro (1CCed both story mode and special mode - if you haven't heard of this, it's a pretty neat Shikigami clone with Tsukihime characters)

Genesis/Mega Drive:
M.U.S.H.A.
Elemental Master (Yay Technosoft! Yay verts that have interactive stage elements!)
Divine Sealing (awful, awful game, avoid)

Game Boy (and Color, and Advance):
Gradius (Got to stage 14... loop 3, level something or other)
Phalanx

MSX 1/2:
Aleste

PC Engine (and CD, and Turbo Grafix 16/Duo):
Spriggan
Air Zonk
Air Zonk CD (great games both, but a little easy due to excess 1ups)
Heavy Unit (gets my award for "most unbalanced shmup ever")
Psychic Storm
Powergate (easy, and definitely not a great game, but fun for some reason)

Playstation 1:
Zanac Neo
Zanac Arrange Version (not much different from the unarranged version  )

Playstation 2:
Shienryu Explosion

Saturn:
Steam Hearts
Salamander 2
Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius (aka Chatting Parodius ... need to get good at more Parodius games)

PSP:
Sengoku Cannon
Star Soldier

Total: 37

Non-shmups

Jackal - NES (Hey, it's -almost- a shmup... and incidentally, one of my fave games ever.)
Contra - NES (Hurrah, finally 1CCed it without the 30 lives code )
Super Contra / Super C - NES (1CCd and 1 lifed. And I once thought this game was hard.)
Toki - NES (looks terrible, but plays really well)

DC
Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh (I'd ask for a medal if I had a camera).

Someone on the previous page had Gunhed as a 1CC, how many Areas are there?

This list is pretty small as I'm relatively new to shmups (started properly with Ikaruga in May 2003). If I ever get Mushi in the mail, she'll be the next one to go on the list...

Details about the nature of the run in regular brackets, specfic craft/character type (where it affects play) in square brackets.

DoDonPachi (1st loop) [Type B/L]
DoDonPachi DOJ (1st loop) [Type A/Exy]
ESPGaluda [Ageha]
Ikaruga - Normal Arcade (No Miss Clear)
Ikaruga - Normal Prototype
Ikaruga - Easy Arcade
Ikaruga - Hard Arcade
Mushihimesama - Original
Mushihimesama - Arrange
Perfect Cherry Blossom [Reimu/A]
Radiant Silvergun - Arcade Mode
Shikigami No Shiro II [Niigi 1]

Gradius III (SNES), Normal
Gradius V, Normal
Gradius Gaiden, Normal
RayCrisis (PSX) Special Mode, Hard
