Is anyone playing this currently? I just started playing (actually new to the whole genre) but will hopefully have something worth posting before too long. Had to use my first continue on the 1-5 boss last run, but I can't remember the score without starting the game up again.

Started playing this again... kind of. Actually just put in a random credit.

moozooh - 1,020,380 - 1-5 - Weapon Edit

An unfortunate death on stage 4 boss led to a silly rape on stage 5. That one is really hard to recover on... oh well. :\

Awesome game! Got it a few weeks ago and have been improving in nearly every credit played - to my own surprise. Normally I suck at this kind of games, but Gradius V might become my first Gradius 1CC, thanks to no checkpoints and the recollection of the options. Died shortly before the second to last (?) boss in stage 7 (this blockade thing with 3 cores).

I even get used to the length of the game and almost like it this way by now. Can still change if I fail on improving in successive credits.

I'm using Type 2 with spreadbombs by the way. Totally need this option type for the stages even if most bosses become a lot harder.

Alright, I sent a PM to Minzoku almost a month ago and it hasn't been read by him. So I assume he isn't active here any longer.

If someone wants to open a new topic for Gradius V, I'd say feel free to do so. Otherwise I will create a new one after the weekend.

1cc'ing this game for the first time is like, the best feeling ever. I was just playing TF6, which came several years after GV, and it reminded me how good of a game GV is.

Blinge - 2,777,730 - 2-3 - Type 2

My first death was on the mecha walker thing on stage 7, it had one core left and I rushed trying to finish it off and ate a foot.. ah well!
Then i fell apart on stage 8 and lost about 3 lives =[
A couple of friends were at my place playing games on another set up at this point, somehow talking to them kept my nerves suppressed and didn't distract me too much. That is until one of them started yelling for me to concentrate and not talk.. and I got killed by a bloody turret on stage 3 boss :x

yeah it is, I can't imagine how people get to loop 3 or higher, they must have to take breaks or something.. the world record holder must've slept and left it paused...surely.

Yes, tviks spent 1 week on his credit, pausing it to sleep & eat. In the end, he decided to crash it out on loop 16. Incredible feat

Pegboy - 4,678,370 - 3-1 - Weapon Edit (Type 1, Ripple Laser, Spread Bomb, Tailgun, Forcefield).

Well I tried score attack a few times this weekend and my best run I made it to 3-1 using weapon Edit. Very disappointed with how this run turned out because I no-deathed the entire first loop, and only died like 2-3 times before 2-7. Oh boy did things go downhill, died over and over again, and to some really stupid shit at the elephant gear. Went into stage 7 with 7 extends, finished it with 2 lol.

Then things went from bad to worse, as I tried to cowboy the beginning of 2-8 and ended up losing ALL of my options like an idiot. I pulled off a bit of magic with a completely unpowered pea-shooter and somehow managed to clear the loop with zero lives remaining (and 1 more completely idiotic death going for a powerup for no reason). Finally got the game over about 1/2 way through 3-1.

I might end up posting the videos but it will take a while to upload them.

Edit:
Another score attack try, this time with type 2:
Pegboy - 3,706,500 - 2-5 - Type 2

Once again, doing great until a bunch of boneheaded mistakes on stage 4 & 5 of loop 2.

I got a new hi-score, this time made it all the way to 3-7 and then had a very bad time for a death, droped my last 3 lives and got the game over at the barrel rolling part. Ugggh. Man I came so damn close to a 3 loop clear. I'm not going to give up.

I've got yet another hi-score, this time I cleared the 3rd loop. Not sure if this is my last attempt or not, I'd love to get a 4-loop clear and I know I have it in me, but these runs just take forever.

Wow.... that is very impressive. Even one loop in this game takes well over 30 minutes... three loops must be a real endurance test.

Each loop is an hour and change and my run lasted 3 hours and 50 minutes, although that does include 3 credits sequences which I could have skipped and saved some time (5 mins each).
