its funny how one week you can hate a game, then the next like it to death, i used to like strikers 2, hated it, was about to trade it but found nothing interesting, then liked it again, weird.

moral of the story: dont sell your games, or only the real shit ones.

anyway, what sucks is that i almost got to the eight stage with the shinden, had 2 bombs which is more than enough to clear the end of stage 7, but i was silly and stayed too high on the screen, sapurize death.

i WILL clear the game with the shinden, then probably do a highscore with the hayate like all the rest lol.

tho, the reason they had to make the shinden's hitbox so big is beyond me, as its not that good of a ship to begin with...

850400 - J7W shinden - 1-8 - PSX tate

just noticed something with the shinden, if you pointblank enemies as you release your charge shot, it almost doubles its power, very useful stuff.

Ahh.. finally beat my score of 666,000. That was about 9 months ago. :)

Molloy - 684,000 - Hayate - 1-7 - PAL Original 1

1-4 still gives me trouble too. I've really got the hang of 1-5 and 1-6 though. They're quite easy when you use the charge shot properly. Should be able to get to 1-8 soon.

Wee.. got at far as the, I think, last part of the 1-7 boss. The mecha had been assembled and he blew me up with one of his missles. I'm really getting the hang of this game at last.

There's a safe spot right above the top of his head. Just stay there until all his missiles are released.

Wowee.. that 1-8 boss is an absolute bastard. I credit fed it a couple of times at the end just out of curiosity to see if that was the end.. the 2nd boss is insane. Are there even more after that?

I don't see how you can get to a safe spot behind the mechs head.. he has a big backpack? Do you just collide with him and power down all the weapons? I couldn't work out where the safe spot was really. I could use a video of someone playing the 1st loop at this stage. I find the patterns a bit fast and complex to work out.

Theres also a safe spot in the bottom left corner. I'd go with the one above his rocket pack though, more damage.

My advice regarding the last boss is to use acute tapping, or just bomb the tight patterns, since the patterns are meshed compared to the arcade, and sometimes the hit detection is funny.

IIRC, our very own Kiken made a no miss no bomb video of Saturn Original 1 round one. I bomb a lot. Most of the time I finish the first round with only 3-4 bombs remaining:

2 bombs used on 1-6 boss.
1 bomb used on 1-7 robot(the part where he shoots those exploding mines.)
1 used in 1-8 after the midboss.
1 or 2 used at the last boss.

Good hunting.

Arcade version:

Tar-Palantir - 641,200 - F5U - 1-6 - MAME

The Flying Pancake is absurdly better than the others. We should have a non-F5U table too :(

Thought I'd do this while I wait for Mush to get here.

1068300

Went away from the game a few weeks, minus occasional plays, then today went back and beat my highest score the first playthrough...then beat that the 2nd... :?:

If it weren't for those meddling stupid deaths each run I'd have had the 1cc I'm sure...

Really not a score to be proud of...

Arcade Mode (Tate)

SAM - 534,300 - F5U - 1-5 - PSX

Dispute playing this game frequently, I can only reach as far as 1-5...

Seems that I really needs more training. The F5U would be at a disadventage on loop 2 because of those susicide bullets being release by distroyed enemies. Using different plane at loop 2 may be easily. Well that's not an issue for me to worry about.

BTW the PCB is only selling for around US$72 recently. Wondering should whether to get one.

Got my copy of Taito Best. A quickie score in tate(finally).

IlMrm - 1,329,600 - Ki84 - 2-1 - PS2 Taito Best Arcade

Lifed to the last boss, but its brand new patterns compared to Original 1 confused the hell out of me, and promptly lost three guys there. At least most Original 1 strategies that I remember seem to work in Tate. Very rusty.

Q: How do you avoid the fast bullets from the "blue" boss in the middle of stage 1-7?

look at the top.right before the shots come out there are either one or two blinking lights.one blinking light=tap right twice.two blinking lights=tap right once.
btw great score :!: aim for the 2-ALL.good luck.

Thanks for the answer, Plasmo. I've never realised the "once or twice" blinking clue.
With that revealed I may save a bomb there. :D

That's the goal, but I've played the game so much, I'm pretty tired of it by now.
Will take a break, and return when the motivation starts to come back again..

Well shmupers should learn to blink their eyes alturnatively, so that they always have an eye open to monitor the on screen action. :o

Very nice score DMC!

I am guessing the patterns in 2-6 and 2-7, like at Cross Sinker, must be dense as hell and nearly impossible since the screen is smaller.

Indeed. My impression of the second loop is that (with perhaps the exception of iron casket stage) the first five stages are managable. But at 2-6 it's getting too tight (at least for me). But I also find 1-7 to be easier than 1-6, so i hope it's the same for the second loop.

So you converted to tate mode. If you progress any further in the second loop, I would find it very interesting to read about a comparison between arcade and original.
