The DC version only has stage practice, so I must play through stage 6 in order to practice the boss. My plan for the 3rd form is I believe what Ruldra was talking about, where you shimmy from left to right while the drones shoot at you, wait in the corner for a little bit while the rose spews out tons of bullets, and then right when the corner isn't safe anymore, your MS is recharged and you can use it MS to spit out bullets at the rose. You dodge the last bit of the rose's pattern, and go back to the lower left to repeat. Of course, piercing cannons are implicit whenever the chance presents itself.

Oh, and btw, I tried playing a little bit on mame. I'm quite spoiled with the DC version's autopiercing, as it makes a lot of sections way simpler. Props for doing the MAME version my man!

I've been using MAME to practice the hell out of the stage 6 boss. I seem to get a bunch of lag on the stage 4 boss...but I think it helps either way.

I'm starting to get the hang of Ruldra's strategy. That last nudge upward before the last intersection of lines of bullets is just tapping up once on my usb saturn controller. Hopefully it's just tapping up once on the dreamcast controller...

The main reason I took a long break from this game was the fact that Ruldra's strategy is much harder to execute on the DC version. It seems that the drones are deployed for a longer period of time, thus making an effective MS strategy nearly impossible to me. Can anyone successfully use Ruldra's strategy on the DC version?

Arcade (US version):
156,843,139,930 - 1,142,578 - winteR - 2 - ALL

Somewhat lucky run for me in terms of exp. I got a full chain going in stage 5 after the first small portion which I can't chain anyway.

Other than I didn't use piercing at all, except at the last form, where it seems to do more damage (?). Autoshot seems good enough for survival.

Cross-posted from the STGT Hi-score thread. Full-chained stage 3, and I realized where I've been fucking up the whole time.
I've been trying to milk the final boss w/ the piercing cannon when I could've just speed-killed it. The time bonus is worth a lot more.

Will probably get on with it after STGT.

STGT score, arcade version:

Code: Select all

39,198,626,280 - 460,345 - moozooh - 2 - 4 [US]
Might try the DC version sometime later, provided it doesn't have input lag as horrible as this one.

Why can´t I ever reach weapon level 8 though being so close? :?
(Because I screw up stage 5 every time and am just as far away as possible from chaining stage 3, too.)
Anyway, at least first time to reach the final boss, got to the 2nd part.

Holy shit, yeah! First time I full chained stage 5 (except for the bridge from the beginning to the part with the bullet canceling enemies). Would have been 900 billion if I had made it to the final boss. 13th digit, here I come! :)

Yet I don´t think I´ll ever beat the final boss. He´s so cruel.

1st post, and it had to be in a hi-score thread. I didn't like this game at first, but a friend of mine taught me how to really play the game properly and I'm liking it a lot more.
Arcade Mode (Japanese version)

59,253,875,750 - 1,262,432 - ASX - 2 - 3

I'm the one that's 5th place, all the other scores up there belong to my friend, as I was using his PC at the time to play it.
Speaking of which, anyone know how to make the game save scores like that?

The game doesn´t save the scores, so I always used a save state (shift + F7) when I was done and loaded it (F7) when I started MAME again. Nice start already. :)

I´m still playing Mars Matrix, too, but this game really hates me at the moment. I could at least break 2 million EXP (also 2.3 million EXP on a creditfeeding run where I continued in stage 4 :/ ), but no new scores so far. I´m trying to get to chain stage 3 somehow, thus a lot of deaths lately.

This is very nice, thanks!

Khoa, would you mind sharing EXP breakdown per stage for your counter stop run? I need a good estimation for each stage exp gains. Thanks before :D

On average, you should get the following EXP values per stage (I will add my personal best in brackets).
~350k (~410k), 600k (~750k), ~1.6-2.0mil (2.2mil), 2.5-2.8mil (3.2mil), ~3.5+mil (4.5mil), whatever you can get in the final stage (I only got an additional 100k in this stage since there's no point trying to collect EXP).

Behold, a table full of failures! But I'm proud of that actually.
Image
I sort of overkilled stage 1 and 2 before Khoa posted his exp spreads. 1 mil at the end of stage 2, but failed at everywhere else, including that so important stage 3, leaving me with only a mere 1.7mil at the end of stage 3. And 1 million exp gain at stage 4? No no, at most 500k gain , unless I can chain the 2 battleship, midboss, and the hellish portion after midboss. Easier said than done.

Arcade version, MAME.

500k gain is well above the norm. I don't think 1m is possible, I should change the values a bit. I think my standards are too high.

Certain "improved" versions of MAME like MamePlus do have high score support for the vast majority of games, including Mars Matrix, if you use the unofficial hiscore.dat file. There's also a "Save game state on exit" feature that does the automatically save state thing if you are interested (or are lazy like me...)

I just wish I could reach 11-digit-scores and actually make it into the top 20 on this thread

I am certain I will never see the end game credit. Maybe not, overconfident.

Chain level 1 and you could get on it. It's not a high bar and saves me from having to edit 30+ numbers when someone jumps in near the top.
