Arcade (JP version):
155,047,559,370 - 775,658 - Ruldra - 2 - ALL

I managed to find a safe spot on the third form of the last boss: once you destroy all the drones firing aimed bullets, rush to the lower right corner. Three wave of bullets will come your way. The first two won't kill you, but the third will. So for this last wave, you just need to tap up and you're safe. In case one of the drones survive, you can use the shield to absorb the aimed bullets. I could post a video of this in action if anyone is interested.

Now, I guess I could improve my score, but I really don't care that much for this game. Time to move on.

EDIT: Reposting proofpic

Would be cool to have this documentated before you move on. I'd be interested in it.

Need to double check the figures, bob. Score is too high for the exp and level reached. :)

hmm.... then just ignore the score...
I think mame didn't save the score. So I can't recheck it.

I will just play again this weekend and see what score I can pull off :)

Please don't think I wanted to post a fake score

Some friendly competition for bob :D
Not a lot of time in this one yet, feeling sheepish for having discounted this great game until now. Struggling along with a 360 controller to play the game.

Arcade (USA 000412):
532,252,030 - 40550 - Ed Oscuro - 2 - 2

Huzzah! That long section right before the second boss is nice for the score. Didn't do too badly at the boss as I only had a couple lives left (I guess), it finally got me with a bunch of fast-moving woven patterns.

Arcade (USA 000412):
3,288,506,080 - 130,810 - 2 - 4

The level in my previous post is probably wrong btw. Level =! stage lol

Haven´t played this game in 2 months (just own it for about half a year for the Dreamcast), need to practice it much more. And for highscore I would have to make total new scores since I always played with 7 ships... just am no godlike player in shmups I guess ^^
With 3 ships I would definitely go game over in stage 3 or 4...

I agree with Rob, Elite Mode A has to be played by some people. The stages are a lot different and if you pick Mosquito 2 and ship speed 3, you can reach a lot more gold cubes :)

This happens to me most of the time, actually.

I'll finally put up an Elite Mode A score soon. Won't be very good, but I'm sure that'll help.

So today I made some runs... my best points were

79,610,377,950 -383,933 - Battletoad - 2 - 4
Dreamcast Arcade Mode

Not even reached the 12th Digit, but not so bad score for me personally. The worst thing still is that I can´t chain well at all. Seems like I got quite a lot of work to do, if I want to climb up on the list at least a little

So here, just for putting in a score.
Score is not very good of course, but Elite Mode A is very fun... will play it more sooner or later

DC Elite Mode A
44,739,161,780 - 384,858 - Battletoad - 1 - 3 - 4

Mosquito 1 is not as bad as I expected, especially with speed 3 where it has the normal speed of Mosquito 2 :)

Nice. I'm too focused on the arcade version for elite mode a right now. Might have a score saved, though. Will have to check later.

Got the 12th digit!
I feel I´m finally getting deeper into the game (Arcade Mode)... after about 40 hours of playing I guess
But better late than never...

My chaining becomes a little better, I hope I can still improve much.

DC Arcade Mode
104,751,105,990 - 526,666 - Battletoad - 2 - 4

Learn to chain stage 3 for best results and stage 1 to keep it from getting boring. 2 & 4 are the most challenging to bridge and give less exp than 3 or 5.

Yay counterstoppage without clearing it because I suck. That goal's done, at least.

Nice!

Which version of MAME are you using? Every one I've tried has godawful input lag.

Thanks, it's MAME Plus .100. It plays fine or I've adjusted to it over 50 hours.

Checked my DC file for you, Battletoad. The elite mode score I have is: 52,445,099,170 - 602,447. I'm not touching that mode again until I completely exhaust arcade (10+ million exp). Something to save for later.

Yeah stage 1 works quite well meanwhile... sometimes I can chain the whole stage, sometimes I lose it somewhere in the middle. Stage 2 is extremely easy to chain in the beginning and the end, but I can´t do much of the rest. After stage 2 there is hardly planned chaining at all... gotta work on that.

Cool. Seems like I could (temporarily) overtake your score
But there´s of course much room for improvement, especially for you

Good luck on the arcade mode... I´ll practice it too, but maybe keep an eye on the Elite Mode

By the way @ Rob: what´s your highest score on Arcade Score Attack Stage 1?

Wow... I think I the highest exp I had was about 200,000.
I improved my arcade score today and reached the stage 4 boss who is a real pain in the ...
I´ll improve for sure, so I´ll see what will be my highest score in a week or so and then post it.

Hm my Dreamcast begins to reboot again, but I don´t have a screwdriver here to fix it. I´ll not play on the Dreamcast for at least a few days (and I would concentrate on Giga Wing 2 first). So you may update my DC arcade score (which I achieved some weeks ago).

This is certainly the first manic shooter I have played a lot and am still working on getting past stage 3. I haven't gotten a 12 digit score yet, so I'm not posting one.

I did have one question though. Almost every source I have consulted claims the hitbox for type 2 is at the front of the ship near the cockpit. In my experience, it seems to be a much further back than this, almost at the rear of the ship. Am I crazy or just bad at this game?

New score

DC Arcade Mode
143,976,635,450 - 694,029 - Battletoad - 2 - 4

I also had a multiplier of about 720,000 once, but died too early there...
Things get better step by step

But something´s still wrong with my Dreamcast. Sometimes no music is played or a one second passage loops forever. Maybe the laser doesn´t work correctly, but I don´t know... :?
At least the game itself played as always.
