Supposedly this game has 40-some missions.

Very late to the party but I'm pretty sure this game only has 21 missions. My best was mission 18 or 19 at the arcade (don't remember which - it was long and very tough though). But I haven't played it on an arcade cabinet in nearly 20 years. I'll give it a bash in mame on default settings, but I doubt I'll get beyond Mission 3 lol.

I'm terrible at this game now. Can't seem to get past level 9. Don't remember the enemy placements or terrain at all

Here's a couple of things I didn't see in the strategy wiki:

- Landing upside down gives you 2000 bonus points. Fly down forward towards the strip and loop just as you're about to hit the ground
- Looping downforward at the left edge of the screen will cause your bullets to travel vertically down for a few moments. Useful for targetting enemies behind objects

Basic strategy is to eliminate tanks asap, and then go for the planes. Tanks make your life hard because they can shoot you while you're trying to recover. You can actually hit tanks behind trees if you aim just over the top. On levels with flat terrain, the best survival strat is to stay close to the ground. The best scoring strat is to destroy enemies as soon as possible. This makes it possible for more enemies to spawn on some stages.

For scoring purposes, on some levels it's better just to stick to one type of target for the bonuses. Also try to keep note of your target count eg. if you've already destroyed 19 ground targets and 23 aerial ones, and the last screen has 1 tank and 3 planes, it's better to destroy the tank even if the planes escape. Also don't forget to collect medals, secret bonuses and destroy the subs. You can leech off the those planes that drop parachute bombs.

Nice tips. I need to fire this game up again and see how far I get. I might see if I can find some good replays too. There seems to be a fair amount of technique to this game.
