The problem is the game doesnt separate scores for original/arcade, I imagine the majority of people will play in original mode as it has the larger screen size.

Also, worth putting in score attack high-scores too?

Anyway, just got back and the game looks much nicer through RGB, alas I played in normal mode but a quick run got Tychom: 18,4385,4974,22008800 (stage: 3, ship: robin, mode: original)

edit: a better score in arcade, 33,6489,8569,41218930 (stage: 3, ship: robin, mode: arcade)

Certainly. I wasn't sure if it had score attack. I think I'll do a top 3 for each stage, for how many stages then?

Damn, so there goes the last few scores and updates? Pre-emptive reminder to follow this format to make it easier to update:

score - name - ship - stage # (mode- ex. Arcade, Arcade-PS2, Original)

Will be of the party soon, i think.

Just to get notices of new posts and scores
Chomsky, Buckminster Fuller, Yunus and Glass would have played Battle Garegga, for sure.

Good score Smraedis! I haven't picked up my copy yet, but I'm curious to see if the scoring is the same (or higher) than the Taito Type X Ver I was playing before Christmas.

My friend ARC has confirmed that the PS2 port is not a patch on the Type X Ver. - Oh Well....

First try at this game:

Every single death was full of suck.

I have to say that anything after the first seen digits is made up, sorry. However, i really like the game, i needed some serious motivation

I wouldn't really want to encourage a walloping, but I just posted a score about 1 point higher. 8)

I need a bit of practice just to get surviving down on the level 4 and 5 bosses and I still haven't seen the last boss. But very fun indeed. Finally getting a decent feel for the level layouts. This is always the hardest part.

The PS2 Port

Post by DEL »

No PS2 score from me yet. But at the risk of going Off Topic, I'll post my PS2 Port impressions here;

1. It runs at least 30% slower than the Taito Type X Version

2. It displays at half size

Its more like a Commodore 64 Port than a PS2 Port

The core game is still the same
The music is the same
But its slow and tiny

Did the arcade version have slowdown? That's weird (that overall it would run slower). I would never have guessed having not played the original. Oh well, still having a blast.

Are there any video clips of the arcade original around to compare? Maybe I shouldn't spoil it while its good, but curious.

GWG

Post by DEL »

Rob - Well, my last memories of the Type X were the large clear display (at leat twice the size of the PS2 Port) and zipping around the screen with a fair deal of speed.

As soon as I pressed start on the PS2 Port, it felt like I was moving through sludge.

The fun of the Type X Ver has been spoilt.

Maybe going from fluid animation where control movements on a larger monitor produce larger distances makes it seem faster? The game seems pretty fast to me, at least more so than Giga Wing 2. Everything seems "normal" (charge speed, boss timer, etc.), so I don't know.

Let's have some score attack entries. Give me something to shoot for.
