Another improvement yet again hindered by first loop mistakes.

I lost my credit on the final boss...on the final fucking form! Why didn't I use my last bomb, what the fuck!? I guess I can take consolation in the fact that I now have the forum record? FUCK.

Ah, so close. Keep at it, I'm sure you'll get the 2-ALL soon!

I will definitely be posting a video if/when I get the clear. I have a bunch of runs already recorded but would rather hold off posting until I get what I'm trying for.

Well I finally did it after months of practice and a truly heartbreaking near clear yesterday! I smoked the last 4 levels and didn't choke for once even though my heart was racing and hands trembling on the final stage. Glad to have this done. 2 Strikers games down, 2 to go.

Yeah, I made a mistake and didn't use my charge shot on the 2-5 tank a final time like I normally do and I didn't kill it quick enough so everything got out of control. I was so shocked to have dodged all that shit that I just dove into a bullet as I was spazing out and flailing around.

Why?
I tried the game in MAME (0.216, low latency), but it felt very unresponsive. Definitely a couple of frames of lag more than what I'm used to.
So something a few players have started doing since 2019 is to play the games in Retroarch, using the FB Neo (arcade) core. The benefit of Retroarch is that it has many ways of reducing input latency. Like run-ahead (and apparently more).

I didn't configure it myself, I downloaded it from Mark MSX. Here's a video for more information. Personally I don't understand much of how it works, but I tried it in here and it definitely feels WAY smoother than it does in MAME. So I'll probably stick with this for Strikers Plus for the time being. Still, overall I prefer MAME more for other games. And I'd only recommend this if you want to try something that doesn't perform well in MAME.

I don't know much about this game, but I have played it a few times on my AES. Yes, that's right, on the AES, which it never got released on. I never really decided what plane to use, but I'm guessing there is a pretty good reason that so many people use the Pancake.

I do want to get into Strikers eventually and I can play it on my AES (yes, in MVS mode on the AES if I configure it that way) and not have to mess around with emulation, so I am considering starting here, but I haven't decided yet.

Pancake is really good in this one since his charge attack deals a ton of damage and charges back up very quickly. It's like the Lv.2 charge in Strikers 2, except you can stack up multiple of them here. Also the fast speed and minor homing is a bonus too.

But that's not to say there aren't good alternatives. Spitfire has an incredibly strong bomb. It clears the screen of bullets while also dealing massive damage, and afterwards you get a formation that helps out a lot too. I haven't spend significant time in many of the other ships, but they seem to all have something strong about them. Pancake is just the easiest to pick up and try, so it makes sense new players would use it.

Cool, thanks. Maybe I'll set up the Neo Geo and try it soon.
