This is the Saturn version's PS4 release on PS5, if that matters. An emulated version of an emulated version running in backwards compatibility mode lol. This is like my second time playing Special and I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. Seems I managed to not get last place, so here it is.

My awful replay: https://youtu.be/v7My6xo-lXo
Welcome, your score has been update

PS: I may add an extra column Format (PCB/Saturn/MAME/Steam/PS4/PS5/Switch), let me see how busy this thread gets

It's going to be even more interesting when Bitwave and M2 release their versions since you'll have both the arcade and Saturn versions released separately on PS4 + Switch and also PC, and if you are specifying Steam, you'll also have to add GOG because Bitwave will release theirs there as well. If you want to be super technical, the Saturn version is just the arcade version being emulated by the Saturn anyway.

no worries, those two score submissions were posted with a 5 year gap after a random session in 2021 where I thought "this is a pretty high score for me, lets see what my old score was"
appreciate you keeping it up to date for so long

Special - NTSC-J - 115,428,370 - ALL - Type B Beltiana

Thanks to Olifante for calculating my score using his debug script.

I don't have video of the rollover using the romhack, but here's the INP (MAME 230) and screenshots showing when the score counter stopped (just before the platform bonus) and my remaining resources (1 spare life and 6 bombs, so 6 million clear bonus for the bombs; you don't get anything for remaining lives).

Also, I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, so a quick note for those playing on Saturn/S-Tribute: The platform bonus in stage 5 only gives you ~2.3m instead of 3.3m as on the PCB/MAME/EXA. A potential loss of 4 million won't be a big deal for most, but for anyone planning on going for scores beyond 100m, I would avoid these versions.

Sick freakin' score! Glad that the script has motivated you to come back to this game. The counterstop is such a sad thing, given how easy it is to cs and just how much potential there is for further improvement.

Yeah, it's a shame the game hasn't had as robust of a scoring scene as it probably could have, but at least now there are multiple ways to bypass the counterstop between the debug script, S-Tribute, EXA, and eventually, the M2 port. Also, I'm not sure if the JHA will start taking scores for this mode on EXA Label, but Japanese player IEG bought it, so maybe we'll see 130m+ scores soon.

Is there any difference for scoring on the PCB vs. Saturn version in regards to slowdowns missing from the Saturn? I have not been aware of this until very recently (long after I stopped playing), but someone said the PCB has slowdowns that make it a little easier in higher loops? I could be remembering this wrong, just curious.

The Saturn version is missing some slowdown, but IMO the only part where it makes any difference is on the stage 5 boss.

Sorry if this is confusing, but I changed the name I use to submit scores to one that adds initials to my username. Could you remove my 17.4mil score?

Okay, cool. I didn't think so. The first time I played it was with a friend on his PCB and I was on 2P side. Maybe it affects where you respawn after you die, but I'd have to check.

Yep, respawn location differs between player side.

Isn't that the case for any (arcade) shmup? Thinking about it now, 2P also changes which direction power-ups go towards when the item carries enemies are destroyed.

Hellfire 2P version's respawn location is the same for both player sides, but for most verticals it will probably affect it.

A true statement! You can only play as Totally-Not-Joker-Jun on 1P side, though...

I checked the player side differences thread and it looks like 2P side gets EXP from pigs more slowly than 1P side does, but only in Special.

I haven't played this game since the last time I played it. Here, have a Steam Deck score. Bitwave's thing is much nicer than City Connection's, which might be why I beat my old score in only 3 attempts even while being mentally exhausted from barely sleeping, as usual. Don't worry, I turned off the rewind and fast-forward stuff.

Oh cool, I beat my score again a few minutes later without even really trying, but since it's separated by character, I might as well keep the older score here.
