This thread is a bit of a work-in-progress but it will be cleaned up over the next day or so. There are a lot of versions but I won't add the PS1, NGCP, or other obscure ports unless there is a concerted demand. I was even waffling on the Arcade version honestly, since i think the real meat is going to be the Reboot and X68k. However, I figured I might as well have the two popular legacy Cotton games included here as well.

REBOOT-normal
Special World - 644,020,880 - ALL - Cotton - Switch
https://ibb.co/QmQHT4q

X68K-normal
Special World - 952,040 - ALL - Cotton - Switch

And if you add the 2min and 5min caravans
2min: 103,441,970
5min: 193,628,270

Might try a few runs with Silk and see how it goes. Thanks for the topic up!

No problem; I'll still need to take time to import the old arcade scores from the previous thread, but I wanted to at least give a small space for the new game up and running. I also updated the posting guidelines for the caravans, which I forgot about.

With that being said, I finally got the clear last night! I went into the last boss blind, but thankfully I had enough lives to tank through the fight - though it was getting close.

This had some poorly-timed Jewel Fevers throughout, so I think with some solid practice I could inch past 700 million. I'd love to get a score of over 1 billion as a solid goal to work towards.

Mistiming your fevers when there aren't enough enemies around can really mess you up, scorewise. I still don't know if turning all the crystals onscreen into black crystals is worth it score-wise (only 32,000 points per crystal). It would seem to be the smartest to use them after a boss but you cannot shoot or attack after a boss dies. For score you really gotta milk these guys as far as you can go. It's just hard keeping crystals onscreen long enough for it to work (especially on the Death boss fight on stage 2).

X86000 - Normal
marus-MPO - 986,890 - ALL - PS4 (1.04) - video

Thanks EmperorIng for taking this thread over! I randomly decided to play a few credits of this today, and managed to get a 1CC on video. That said it's lower than my previous score (which was done on emulator), but I figured I might as well post it since I got the video.

I'm not sure why this score's so much lower than my previous 1CC to be honest. From a survival perspective this run went way better (I only lost one life in this run, whereas my previous run came down to my final life). My previous run was done on emulator - it's possible that there's some scoring differences between this and the original release, but to be honest I'm not too familiar with the scoring in this game. It could also just be that I got much luckier on my last run :)

I also tried Reboot mode a little bit but I got my butt handed to me real quick, haha. I'm glad they fixed the bullet visibility in the latest patch though! That was my biggest problem with the game before, so I'll probably give it another shot now that it's updated.

No problem Marus! I try to take the initiative on games I like - and a few games I don't, as well, ha.

As for scoring differences, I can't say if there are any... who knows if you might have destroyed more rocks from one of those Haniwa midbosses or something. Thanks for bringing it up; hopefully you just got lucky, which means you'll get lucky again some time. :P

Reboot mode is a good deal of fun. I just got another 1cc, this time with Appli! Her shot is much stronger so I had a much easier time; knowing how the later stages worked certainly helped, too! I breezed past my previous Cotton score and I was so close to a clean 800 million... Oh well! I almost had a jewel fever kill on Wool, the last boss, but I ran out of time just before it happened. Timing your jewel fevers in this game can be pretty tricky.

Here's my contribution. Score isn't spectacular, but an honest day's work. Also it seems there is a bug where the leaderboard scores do not update. This happened to me a couple of times.

My 1st 1CC of the arrange mode, normal difficulty :

Palgork - 737.502.830 - ALL - Needle - PS4 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW9X7UK5c0E

Final score is visible at 28:49 on the video (the end of the video after this point is just the staff roll)

New pb in arrange mode, normal difficulty :

Palgork - 926.247.890 - ALL - Cotton - PS4 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNoCYT2TNiM

The run was done "casually" with Cotton, just to see the story events in French (Needle automatically skip them).
You can have the game in the default language of your PS4 if your reset to default parameter, with square button, on the language selection option screen. The language go back to Japanese if you close the game.
I don't know if this tips work on Switch version (the button to press to reset to default parameter should be displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen if it's the same as the PS4 version)

The run has way better gone than expected, with 100M done on the dragon boss only.

However, I still wonder how to milk effectively the 6th stage mid boss : i should be able to do way more points on stalactites.

Wow, great score! My goal is to get over 1 billion myself. Your run will be helpful as a guide, especially for some better Fever activation spots

Most users say that the Switch can't reset the default language like PS4 owners can. I certainly can't either way.

I still wonder what are the best spell combos.

Doesn't charged green followed by charged purple on a screen full of popcorn enemies is worth ? You can get close to 10M in 2 spells but end up with a screen without jewel.

I think charged purple should be used just before killing each boss.

Instant purple spell is really hard to use, especially if is there is no floor

Charged red spell is crap from my point of view.

Instant Red spell can be really powerful and useful in order to charge fever meter. Lvl 1 and lvl 2 instant blue spell is good to charge fever too but the cast is really long and its delay your shot (i lose a lot of fever time because of I trigger it before the end of the blue spell).

Instant green spell can be really effective in vertical sections, can generate a lot of fever meter, and has the advantage to not disable your shot (so you can use fever during green spell), but is too random.

Lvl 3 blue spell is really bad in term of scoring I think (really low fever generation), to a point i prefer to charge cast a lvl 3 blue spell to remove it from my spell bar.

I also need to release more the fire button : most of the jewel spawn way to far on the right side, I should aim for having them spawn in the middle of the screen.

I also still don't understand what is the logic regarding the item carried by the iron heads when they go back on screen (and what is the effect of the diamond dropped by the one with a fairy ? Just 68000 points or some other effects are involved ?) : is it a set power up for each head ? a rotation? full random ? Does it depend on the damage done on the head before it leave the screen ?

I really have a lot of work to master this lovely game.

WHOA! 1 billion GET!! Congratulations Palgork, that's an awesome score! As I've said getting over 1 billion is my next goal with this game. Doubling that to get into the realm of the wr holders seems to be pretty steep; how can you do it?!

I can't wait to watch your replay. What exactly does the Green spell do? I am not sure I understand it. It affects meter?

I don't think 1 Biliion is that hard to reach : the WR on PS4 is around 2.4B, so I have a lot of improvement to do. I saw a replay of a Japanese player doing close to 300M on 1st stage (more than 200M on 1st boss only ...), with a 1.6B score at the end, I need to deeply analyse his video.

Instant Green spell cast meteors that destroy enemies bullets. Charged Green spell turn every popcorn enemies on screen into a cristal.
Each enemy or bullet, destroyed or damaged by a spell, increase the fever meter. That's why lvl 1 blue spell is so strong from my point of view : the spell allow to build a lot of meter even against bosses and is really easy to use effectively (green work well but seem to be random).

New pb in arrange mode, normal difficulty :

Palgork - 1.240.723.310 - 7 - Needle - PS4

No replay this time, I forgot to press the button on my PS4 :|
Overall it was a bad run, a lot of mistake, an awful management of jewels on stage 6, no life in stock against 6st boss ... but a better mastery of early game still pay enough at my level to compensate that.

Palgork - 1.295.079.400 - All - Needle - PS4 - https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1059929550

With a catastrophic 5th boss, despite he gave me a good pattern for scoring (I want as much eye ball adds and ground smash as possible to generate jewels).

Thanks Palgork, for elucidating the relationship between spells killing enemies and filling your meter. With that knowledge I definitely think my scoring possibilities have expanded by a great deal!

And awesome new PB by the way. It just keeps on going up!

Another pb in Arrange, Normal :
Palgork - 1.391.367.850 - All - Needle - PS4 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wcba2jTu9ug

The end of the run was a bit scary, when i discovered i didn't have any life in stock in the middle of the 6th stage ...

Note that the old pb in the top right corner not corresponding to my previous pb is due to the fact I use both my european and japanese account to play the game (I play with my japanese account when i stream on twitch, because i don't have a microphone port on my arcade stick : I play with the japanese account in order to be able to stream with my european account -with a microphone plugged on the 2nd controller-)

I also have some score in time attack :

Time Attack 2 Minutes :
Palgork - 150.836.440 - Needle - PS4

Time Attack 5 Minutes :
Palgork - 347.056.020 - Needle - PS4

I did just get a new best with Cotton, just inching past 800 million, but the run was overall sloppy and ended prematurely in stage 6, so I am not bothering recording it. I got to be a lot smarter with activating hypers and recharging my meter. The game is a lot more chaotic now that I am constantly chucking bombs/spells around everywhere to get back to 100% asap.

Great job on the new scores, Palgork!

My main concern about the scoring of arrange mode is that it rely way too heavily on boss milking : even with a lot of mistakes on my best run, boss and mid boss milking represent close to 65% of the total score.
Bonus at the end of each stage in the other hand are meaningless (less than 2% of the total score).

Regarding caravans modes, I think you forgot to sort scores in the leaderboard (obviously, i'm 1st on both 5 minute and 2 minute leaderboard).

Nice job on the score Bloody! Think you can break the 1billion barrier?

I've been playing too much of R-Type Final2 to dedicate the time I should into this game, but that'll change soon, I promise 8)

I did ask Kino who gave me permission to take over. Thanks for the link though! I just have been lazy, admittedly, and haven't had the wherewithal to transfer the legacy scores from the older versions. In due time, however! I think most of the activity in this game is going to be generated by Arrange and the port of the X68k version for the foreseeable future so I wanted to make sure those boards were set up and running properly.
