honestly, I never really noticed the presence of rank in UD. Obviously it's there since practice mode has an option for it, but it never seemed to become noticeably different to me...

I keep thinking I have the stages 1-1 thorugh 1-3 mastered, but I just die a stupid death somewhere nearly every time.

Hoping to be able to at least get to 1-5 pretty soon.

If you bomb regularly there is a significant difference.

(Enemies not being present, less nasty bullet patterns)

Shit, there was a Japanese site with a really long faq and lots of videos, but somehow I can't find it now. It appears to have been taken down. -_-

Have you credit fed UD to the end once, btw? If you do, you can unlock the extra videos. I find those quite helpful in terms of strategy.

Yep CIT, again a little error, i'v do my score on 1-5

@BBH : The rank add little,medium or big helicopter, it become easy to see that on the third Lvl, and it become really harder on the fourth Lvl if the rank is high.
I think you don't saw it cause you are always on the max rank ^^

but I still do not know how to reduce the rank...any idea?->;) Please forget these stupid question, sorry guys

Update:

Finally made it to 1-5. Stage 4 boss was cake once I got there. Had a stupid death on 1-3 and a stupid death on 1-4.

not necessarily. Scoring well won't automatically give you access to the 2nd loop. Remember, there are randomized tanks on each level (except stage 2 I think) that you have to destroy to raise contribution percentage. Missing one of the special tanks won't really have an impact on your score, but it could be enough to prevent you from getting to the 2nd loop.

(my Dreamcast reboot for now too hot here, i can't see my score for posting)

About Lvl2, at the beginning of the stage there are (random) one or two tank with sort of french flag on the side, on the 2 big boat with a lot of tank and sometimes they come from the cargo boat a bit after...did you think it's a part of thing to destroy for the second loop?

I do not think there are any regular tanks on stage 2 that affect contribution. There is a TRUCK that appears at the beginning of the stage that has to be destroyed though. I haven't noticed anything about flags on the regular tanks, the special tanks that affect contribution are colored slightly differently from the rest.

I made some observations here that might be worth reading:

the best way to see what enemies/background objects affect contribution is to watch the "Extra" Replays included with the game, and pay close attention to the VMU to see when it goes up (assuming you have a VMU and not some 3rd-party memory card).

I still think this is a really stupid system to use just to let people reach the 2nd loop.
