I'm very interested, please do so.

And congrats! 2-ALLing any Psikyo game surely isn't an easy task. I've failed so many times, it will never happen for me...

Wow that's insane! I like your aggressive playing style, makes the game almost look manageable.

Thanks for the upload!

What's the correct arcade difficulty on the PS2 version? I've been playing on 5 (Normal), but then I switched over to MAME just now and the bullets seemed faster from the get-go. It could just be the fact that my PC monitor is smaller than my console monitor, but can anybody confirm this for me?

*Edit: I tated my PC monitor to make the screen size comparable and I'm totally convinced the PS2 default difficulty is noticeably easier than on MAME.

Interesting. Just going on memory, 5 should be the right setting for PS2. I don't have the PCB right now, so I can't test against the original.

IIRC, difficulty 5 in Psikyo console shmups is correspondent to "Arcade"

Hi d00d,

Fantastic run through (I didn't watch all of it - spoilers ;) )

How do you get the special weapon to charge so quickly? Mine doesn't charge up nearly as fast :(

I'm still playing Tetsu who is a bit sluggish but powerful.

Cheers,

Ralph.

*** edit *** I have the Japanese pcb.

Thanks! I use an autofire button and a separate non-auto button for charge attacks. While most players release auto just before charging, I like to charge while keeping auto held down. I find that this little technique consistently helps me charge in the shortest possible time. Holds for a lot of shooters with conventional charge mechanics (19XX, R-Type, etc.).

Another thing to note--after releasing the charge button, you can immediately hold it down again and begin recharging. No need to wait until the attack animation finishes.

I think Yuan Nang is much easier to use than the rest of the cast. She has almost no charge time so you can speedkill the more dangerous enemies, and her bullet-cancelling staff gives her a lot of defensive options that aren't available to the other characters. For example, you can beat 1-6's dragon just by camping in the lower left and charge attacking whenever you're about to get hit.

Sorry d00d, I'm struggling to visualise that one - do you essentially have two fire buttons?

I didn't even notice that I was doing that until I read your reply

Yeah, I saw that in your vid. I tried to copy your attack on the knight boss using Tetsu. Needless to say, the results weren't pretty

Yeah. I use the following control scheme:

Button 1 - Continuously fires when held down
Button 2 - Bomb
Button 3 - Tap to fire, hold down to charge

letters are messed up 'cause MAME is stupid.

Probably my most laid back clear to date, I just played this casually for ~2 weeks and the clear eventually happened. I can pretty much no miss the first loop with a certain degree of confidence, but of course I always screw up somewhere.

I think I'll try and see how much further I can get without using savestates or watching superplays. It's inefficent but it's really relaxing.

That second loop though. ughhh. haven't made any real progress there yet despite practicing quite a bit already.

EDIT: Mostly figured out the first few stages of the loop. Train Stage could easily be the hardest stage in tha game.

just for the lulz. I can do much better

EDIT: Yay made it into the loop for realsies.

756,000 - endoKarb - 2-2 - Marion - ShmupMAME 4.2

Still crap though.

EDIT2: 787,400 - endoKarb - 2-2 - Marion - ShmupMAME 4.2

ghhh got so close to a full first loop no miss. Got Jungle as the second stage in the loop, and I hadn't practiced that in a while. could have been 800k but I was too nervous :?
