Switched to type C and the difference is unbelievable. Still crap at stage 1 + 2 (leave 1 with 550k, 2 with 1.something), but stage 3 and 4 become much easier to chain IMO. Just bombed the stage 4 boss constantly cause I knew I wouldn't have a prayer.

Shit man, demonstration please?
The record for stage 1 is about 1.87M. :D It is normal for a decent player to score a 63-65 hit combo and score 1.45-1.6M at the end of the stage. If you are world class, then you can pull off a 74 hit combo at the end of the stage.

Here are some replays of the game:

Here is a video showing how to beat the 1-4/2-4 boss in a safe manner. It works for the A and the C ships. If you use the B ship, you can't hide at the top of the barrier, you have to do it the hard way as the B ship's hit box is slightly higher than the A or the C ship's hit box.

Well, that dashed my hopes of being decent at 1-1... :(

But, on the bright side-

Now if only I could make a better dent at 1-4... :(

74HIT?! O_O;;

I'm assuming that the few extra hits are from the two small tanks that appear to the right of the screen before the large tank appears, and maybe one or two of the bee medals. I can only just squeeze 60HIT with the large tank as part of the chain, although I miss a few things, so a consistent route still needs to be worked on.

I got those clips from Hameko, the stage4 boss strategy is very helpful. The only problem being that Type C is too slow to avoid the single aimed fireball portion of the attack sequence, so I still need to expend a laser bomb or two to stay safe.

Stage5 is starting to come together now, especially since I've only just figured out how to destroy those rows of turrets that show up in the midsection of the stage (the ones with the rotating switch ^_-). If I can successfully work the chain in places, 120HIT+ is likely here (85HIT is my record for the section).

Stage5 is really good for scoring. Just too many goddamn snipers >_<#

Not much of an improvement, but at least I'm over the 12mil mark.

Getting slightly better at the stage4 boss now. Only need to use one laserbomb in emergencies, so I can hopefully improve on the strategies and maybe attempt a No Bomb play.

Made it through stage5 on my last life unscathed - didn't have to use a single bomb during the middle section of the stage, thankfully - and all the way up to the 2-2 boss. Then crashed into it when it appears. -_-;;

How embarrasing.

Hiya :)

thought I'd make a new post seeing as others seem to be doing the same..

Yeah, I know I'm using the US version, but I've been learning on this one for a while now, planning to get to the end of 2-5 sometime shortly.
Since my last score, I've just tried to spot new chains, which has added a little onto my score so far. Lots to improve on still..

Sigh, another small improvement. I've been a victim of the 'bullets/planes right up your ass before you know it' syndrome in stage 5 lately. :x Apparently they dont want me to break 6 million. Bastards.

First time ever getting to the "Spaceballs" ship in stage 4... lost all my lives on the stage 4 boss pretty much, and wasjust winging stage 5.

Replay available if anyone cares.

I've been playing since I got in from work at about 12.30am, and I kept screwing up in the dumbest places, in spots where I know I can take on without a bomb, or in places where my bomb finger was a split second too slow and I got toasted - I call it Raiden DX Syndrome, the slow bomb problem. The amount of times I've been to stage5 tonight.

So I have one last go before I go to bed, ready for work in the morning.

And this happens.

Icarus - 14,523,780 - 2-3 - Type C - MAME (JPN)

Image Image

Exited Stage5 with two lives to spare, and 11.2mil. Only needed one bomb in 2-1 (on the boss) and had a messy trip through stage 2-2, losing a life to suicide bullets, and the boss' rapid vulcan sweep. Ended the credit a few minutes away from the 2-3 boss.

If I can make it to 2-4, then maybe 16-17mil is possible, but I need a few lives spare to do that -_-;;

Holy wow. I made it all the way past the battleship only to get pwned by the third bullet-spewing SOB afterwards. And no extend at 4mil = me sad.

Also, I think I'll stick with the Type B. Easily the most fun of the three ships to play with, if you ask me.

I hate this fucking game. Actually, I hate levels 1-4 because they are SO GOD DAMN BORING! Level 5 is ok, but I keep forgetting but the butt pirates midway through.

Edit: I think Ghosts n Goblins is less frustrating than this game.

Sorry Ramus, I just had one hell of a game. Can I please stay in Tier II?

Landshark - 13,923,300 - C - 2-4

Died right before the boss. Would have made it if I didn't die earlier with ~3 bombs in stock. Also would have helped if I didn't died a retarded death in 1-3 or 1-4 (can't remember). Suprisingly easy 2nd loop for a Cave game. Though 2-4 gets nasty.

Got this one recorded too. I'll upload it after the comp.

Geez! yeah, it looks like you had a decent run. I don't think I'm going to beat NTSC-J's 10+ million. Hopfully I'll stay up here in Tier II. Can't wait to see the video :D .

Ehh screw it. Here: http://marp.retrogames.com/inp/6/6/6/ls ... olf102.zip

Wolf .102 needed. And you'll need to copy and paste the URL as offsite linking isn't allowed.

Horrible deaths on 1-3 and 1-4. Cool dodging on 2-4 :)

The ships in this game have giant ass hitboxes. Literally, I always die by dragging the ass end of my ship across the top of a bullet.
Damn, talk about some nice improvements Landshark and Ramus. Shocked I wish I had the skill to double my score in the span of a few hours. Mad
Thanks ;) It's 1-5 that was the sticker. After that, it wasn't until 2-4 where the game really got hard again.

Good stuff Landshark. Just a hair away from the top spot there ^_^

Just had the last credit of the night before I go to bed, screwed up seriously in stage5 (lost two of the three spare lives stupidly), squeaked into the loop, and ended at the 2-2 boss with 12.9mil. Improvements to 1-4 and 1-5 have to be made if I'm going to make a serious attempt at scoring in the second loop -_-;;

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Been working on my early chains, and I think I've cracked the stage1 60HIT+.

Image

For the past few days I've been trying to work the large tank into the middle of the chain before the boss, with little success. This time I decided to start the chain with the large tank first, and pulled off a decent scoring 59HIT, with a few things missing. So I know I can get a 60HIT+ at some point, with refinement.

Also stage2 has almost come together, I can now hit all of the major chains consistently, with the large battleships being a bit hit and miss, timing and movement still a bit off. New record 3.2mil after bonuses.

And I've stumbled across the big chain at the start of stage3. There's about two broken 45HIT there with the two large battleships (with the containers that hide bee medals), but the linking method is very tricky to do, and requires either Laser usage, or difficult chain stalling. There's also a high-scoring 40HIT where the ship with the ten red boxes is.

Don't get me started on stages 4 and 5. There are so many huge chains there, decent chaining can see your score jump by at least 6mil through careful play through the two stages.

My current strategies are looking at 11mil after the 1-5 boss. With a bit of fixing, 12-13mil (stage5 is the place to go for big scoring chains).
