Already said this elsewhere, but congrats on your feat! You've officially won the 2006 Shooting World Cup!
aventus wrote:What does "counter stop" mean?
It means that you have reached the maximum attainable score in a game - the point at which the score counter stops.

You know about the counter stop in the arcade version of Mars Matrix, at 9999999999990 (I think), right?

Are there any other shmups with a possible counter stop? I just know MM and Batsugun, maybe Vulgus? But this piece of shit is maybe endless, too :P

I know Guwange and ESP Ra.de can be counter stopped. I'm sure there's more, just don't know them off the top of my head. -_^

Counter Stop

Post by DEL »

Many Thanks again to Randorama, CIT, LUNardei, aventus, ArrogantBastard, Plasmo and everyone else who wished me luck!

ArrogantBastard - Sorry, I didn't record my run. Having now viewed the ST13 & 14 Counter Stop replay on Super-Play.co.uk, I find that I play the ST4 leeching method differently from the Japanese, but I'm quite glad that 'I found my own way'. I could have a run recorded at the next London Meet.

aventus - Other games with Counter Stops are many. Gemant's Arcadia World Records list is littered with them; http://www.aiva.emuita.it/a.php
I have 3, namely Truxton 10,000,000+, XXMission 99,999,990 and now Batsugun Special. My friend The Old Mills (-M-) also has 3 (maybe more); Raiden 10,000,000+, Raiden DX 10,000,000+, Raiden Fighters 1 (the 2 loop ver) 100,000,000+. Rob and Randorama have both Counter Stopped Mars Matrix.
Batsugun Special is an easier Counter Stop than Truxton though, plus it requires 4hrs less playtime :wink:

CIT - Thanks but the 2006 Shooting World Cup should belong to Cowboy-RJJ and MrMonkeyMan for their mastery of Ketsui!

Rando - A Big Thanks for your Counter Stop demand and your excellent Strat!

twe - Yes, I meant to congratulate you on your big 376mil Mush Maniac score - so here it is:- CONGRATULATIONS :D !

If only our autofire circuit worked at the right frequency to 'bank' at my local arcade, I'd have continued playing Mush :? . (I'm not so keen on the PS2 ver).

Jck - For some reason, unbeknownst to me, Rando hasn't posted his scores on the new board. Maybe he doesn't want to scare new players off? Its a madly impressive body of work :shock:.

People, it's Batsugun's high score thread, not "Rando's old scores galore" :wink:

No need to congratulate me on that score, it's merely average in the grand scheme of things. I plan to improve on it in a few weeks when I'm back from my vacation. You sir, with your counter-stop ALL Batsugun S.E. score (with no autofire!!) deserve the congrats. :wink:

And the mushi PS2 port is great I think, you should give it another go. I've played the PCB a lot recently and there are few differences, just a bit less slowdown in stage 3 and a few other places. I honestly don't even notice the difference in the graphics between the two, they look basically the same to me, the PCB is perhaps a tad bit sharper but it's a very minor detail (I think the PS2 port looks gorgeous). The most annoying part is the lack of slowdown on the stage 5 midboss, as has been mentioned ad nauseum before (particularly annoying that it IS present in Arrange mode on this boss!). I score better on the PS2 port too (but maybe that's just because I've played it more). Anyway, it's much better than the Ibara port, which just tossed out all the slowdown, moved some enemies around, and has horrible load times. I played Ibara in Japan last week at the arcade, and it felt like a different game!

Here's a Normal edition contribution:
DMC - 4,714,270 - ALL - Beltiana (Type B)

My impressions of the scoring tricks are pretty bad. It feels that it doesn't matter if you get the pigs or not, when the award is so small compared to stage four trick. I also agree that the "street fighter moves" to get the pigs don't belong in a shooter.

The 17 M score though, pretty impressive!

@DEL:
It is done (for now). Back to you my friend. ^_-
Lets make this a summer of new scoring records!

@TWE:
I missed your new Mushi score, so it's grats from me too. ^_^

@Rando:
It's been a while since you've dominated the boards, my friend. Lost your touch? Or your appetite? ^_-
If you don't get a move on, people will be breaking your records all over the place, wink wink. ^_- </nudge>

I need 28 hours in a day if i want to shmup again at a decent level. Will try to fix something during the next two months or so, if i can (For instance, go back to Italy, get the Saturn and improve my old score).
Chomsky, Buckminster Fuller, Yunus and Glass would have played Battle Garegga, for sure.

I started to play Batsugun again and here's the first result:

Special Version:
AVE - 18,841,030 - Stage 8 - Beltiana

I didn't die on the 4th Boss so I was able to do both tricks in stage 4 and 5. 8)

Did you play it via MAME? Is there a working ROM out there since I was only able to find a crappy one (no sound, graphic bugs...) :(
