this, all of it. what a terrifyingly intriguing game, seems to be all about spectacle... strider hiryuu? though the difficulty curve on that one seems to, uh, exist.ACSeraph wrote:Considering Gradius feels very polished and this is the followup to Gradius, I expected it to not appear totally halfassed. Finally into the second loop. And thanks to god I practiced 2-1 before that run. Because on the second loop the first stags has so many new cheap shots. :p

I don't think I'll have any more time to play and dive into the loop, but I achieved my goal of clearing the 1st loop so I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Seriously. I really stood no chance at it since it was my first time seeing it. I haven't seen much cheaper shit than that before.Edge wrote:Edge - 1'044'900 - 2-3

Re: round 1 of shootemup contest
Me and Wolfman are still debating about the following thing:
Seeding rounds:
The hi-scores of both team members are added up and the TOTAL team hi-score determines the team rank. With 26 teams the no. 1 ranked team gets 26 points etc... (see link for updated tournament standings)
The top 24 teams will qualify for the double elimination part. When your team member is not submitting a hi-score you will have a harder time to get a good ranking but with good individual hi-scores you will still have a very good chance qualifying for the double elimination part. So no problems here.
Double elimination part:
Based upon the team rankings after the seeding rounds the double elimination part will start. Two teams will go head to head to determine which team qualifies for the next elimination round.
When your team member is not submitting a hi-score you'll have a very hard chance qualifying for the next round. Presume you submit the best score of both teams but your team member hasn't submit a score, would it just be bad luck or should we work with an average score ? When choosing to use an average score it's not really fair to the team which members both submitted a score. What is fair to do in this scenario....?
We would love to hear

Re: round 1 of shootemup contest
I don't think average score is a good idea, because it negates the whole point of it being a doubles tournament.
If you're doing an average score, may aswell be a solo tourey..

Very slight improvement
Haven't seen enough of stage 4 yet, definitely should have been practicing it.

Yay, good improvement. Died on 4th boss, of course.
Really hoping to break 500k, would be a good jump in standings, but this might be the best I can manage before the round ends.

Not the best play, didn't learn to get my options under control.
Thanks for running this chaps, gives me something to think about at work.
I was bit bored by this one, though I was amused by the Turd Dragon.

^ this. Also you'd penalize teams for submitting two scores. As two scores will always lower their average.Blinge wrote:I don't think average score is a good idea, because it negates the whole point of it being a doubles tournament.

Very very nice
I've been wasting my entire day on this game, failing to get into the loop again now that I've actually practiced it. Just keep getting killed by totally random shit I didn't see. Half the time I have no idea what even killed me.

Re: round 1 of shootemup contest
The boulders and grey shots are the worst offenders imo. Been trying to better myself tonight and i just cant even clear stage 4 now. The monotony of this game has broken me. Its a shame because I find stage 5 to be the fairest and most enjoyable, since it requires you to dodge, rather than find a sweet spot and it escalates nicely.ACSeraph wrote: Just keep getting killed by totally random shit I didn't see. Comparing the feeling of playing this to the variety and choices that Gradius offers is going to be fascinating.

Eaglet - 530,500 - 1-5
Sorry Aleksei!
Didn't get anywhere near enough time this week to sit down and memorize.
As others have said, first 4 stages suck. 5 is where it gets fun (sort of) but still way too much memo.
Dying is a complete bitch. Losing all of your missiles and only getting something like 1 second of invincibility is awful design.

Re: round 1 of shootemup contest
Nice Job, Saucey. I died once each on the last section of 1-6 and 2-6. First death was dumb. Second i didn't think the game would loop a third time. Got real dumb on the last section of 3-1 trying "different" shit out. Wound up dying.
Maybe i should have had no heart for my team mate and kept saucey as my "last minute" replacement teammate.

Re: round 1 of shootemup contest
Congrats, Saucy!
@JWS:
I also found it pretty hard to stay focused in a run when the game is so monotonous. It's so easy to have your thoughts wander off in the boring sections and then BOOM! Argh, I forgot I need to stay here at this part. damn you Salamander.
