Uh, one question: since Hudson's Hector '87 (which is included on the Caravan Shooting Collection for SNES) has the modes "2 Minutes" and "5 Minutes", can i post my high scores for that game in this post?

Sure, go right ahead.

Thanks, Ghegs. Here they go:

Hector '87
Normal Mode: 68000
2 Minutes Mode*: 22000
5 Minutes Mode*: 27500

*If you think that in that time i did those hi-scores, you're wrong. The enemies killed me before the time limit

I recently learned there is a special version of the original Star Soldier where there are 2-minute and 5-minute modes. So I conviently forgot about my old rule about not having games listed merely as placeholders and added that as well as the recently released Star Soldier R, just for the heck of it. And to keep the board looking nice I grandfathered in Hector '87, which is at least spiritually a part of the Soldier series if not in name. I think it's a fun game, too, and now that I've cleared the game's Hard mode I might work on the caravan modes a bit.

Speaking of Hector '87...M4R14NO, those are really not that good scores. You should be able to get over 10 times those scores in 2 minute mode alone easily enough. Unless you forgot a digit in all of the three scores you posted?

Soldier Blade 2min mode
Ed Oscuro - 446,000

Using the Soldier Blade Special ROM in Magic Engine...

Edit:

Final Soldier 2min mode
Ed Oscuro - 507,400

Again using Final Soldier Special Version ROM :P

That was one of my very first tries, no doubt I'll get better at it.

Soldier Blade 5min mode Normal
Ed Oscuro - 1,299,900

My first try in this mode was 1,207,700, heh.

I wish I knew where the higher scores were coming from - I didn't miss a single bonus (20K on the snake bosses, and no bonus on the middle boss that scoots across the screen, but everything else was timed perfectly).

Yes, that is a good emulator.

=RECCA (SUMMER CARNIVAL '92)=

=FINAL SOLDIER=
2 Minute: 349300

=SOLDIER BLADE=
2 Minute Easy: 300800
5 Minute Easy: 788100
2 Minute Normal: 414200
5 Minute Normal: 890900
--------
Took a "real" shot at Soldier Blade and found a ton of bonus requirements.

Final Soldier Special and Soldier Blade Special seem basically the same as their standard counterparts, except SBS has a cool menu. Other than that, it's pretty much the same to me. As a matter of fact, FSS doesn't even say "Special" anywhere.

SBS has "Easy" modes for both 2 Minute and 5 Minute. The enemy waves/placements are changed slightly, you *don't* get points for destroying the bosses (the snake thingies still give you points), and you start with maximum power every life. For some reason, SBS groups scores only by 2 and 5 Minute.

Stick to Normal mode, LGB :P

There's a Youtube video of Soldier Blade Special that really helped me for playing the 2 minute mode, you should look it up too.

One thing I've seen is that you can pick up more enemy patterns if you destroy them quickly...but so far I haven't seemed to be able to take these out much more quickly than normal, probably partly because I'm slow taking them out - according to DJ Incompetent you need to have no others onscreen when the last ship of a formation appears. I should try a run where I focus on those and leave the Zegs alone.

Wow. I didn't know you could get 50000 off the snake.

That video is close to some of my own runs, except I'm a bit slower about it.

Yep, just wait for the head of the snake to be at 12 O'clock in the tight circle before you finally destroy it. There's also a Zeg off to its right, so you should get that before getting inside the snake.

You can basically take your previous scores and add 30K to them now! :D I need some company taking on the top of the high scores list for Soldier Blade...let's take them down ;D

Can't wait to break 500K.

Edit:
Soldier Blade Special 2min Normal
Ed Oscuro - 486,800

Phew. The game felt like it was moving much faster than normal because I was trying to dance all over the place and hit everything. Hmm, those skittish black enemies near the beginning are very important - my scores can range from as little as 20K to 70K up to that point depending on how well I deal with them.
