Ginga Force - Score Attack

Post by ratikal »

Ginga Force is Qute's second STG for the Xbox 360. It features a vastly different style of approach to gameplay as you score attack each stage individually. The scoring system mainly consists of killing everything in sight while collecting CR to increase your multiplier.

Rules
-TOTAL scores only! Total scores include Stages 1 through 10 AND Stage X and Y.
-You are free to post screenshots of all the scores from the stages.

This is my first high score thread so please tell me if there is any way to improve. Special thanks to Moozooh's HS threads for giving me a format to ste- I mean, take inspiration from. (Seriously, I think yours have the best formats!)

So without further ado! Here's a shitty first score!

All right, here's mine! I wonder how long I'll be able to defend this position on the leaderboards, haha. So close to getting that third spot though...

Oh nice! Thanks for posting the picture so I could get down the WR. Can I ask how you got so many points in Stage 3? I figure it has to do something with the beginning...

If I remember correctly, I believe that I used the Charge Bomb extensively to kill more enemies to raise the multiplier (for example when the 5-7 semi-large missiles are incoming). I also suicided multiple times on the boss just to destroy all of its part and I think I tried to destroy each part when there were a lot of bullets on the screen so that I could get more CR.

Oh okay. Do you know what exactly does give you more CR? Sometimes I get gold and sometimes I get platinum. Is there any way to control this?

I watched my replay from stage 3 and I noticed that when you're supposed to destroy those large missiles, I milked plenty of popcorns until the timer had clocked down to almost zero and then destroyed the missile. I don't know if this was the primary cause for the Score but I thought that it was worth mentioning.

No, I haven't figured out what creates the better CR chips yet... :/

Something to fill the empty boards:
Erppo - Normal - Type C - 108,260,060

Not sure if I'm going to improve this much, even though couple of stages were pretty mediocre. I think I'll try Hard first.

Sorry for posting yet another score update. The reason being is that I'm going to try to refrain from playing Score Attack for at least a week so that I can unlock everything in the shop and finish up my translation for this game.

Ratikal - Normal - Type B - 84,381,500
Ratikal - Hard - Type B - 110,467,220

I want to hit 100m with Normal Type B but I don't know how to get the extra 16M from Stage 9. I only get like 22M while I see pestro87 has like 38M or so. The fact I can't access Xbox Live doesn't help either... Want to share your secrets? :D

I think I'm done. Put a lot more effort into this than the Normal score since Hard is just so much more fun. I might record the replays of the stages a bit later.

Edit: Here it is.

Damn, that stage 3 score is huge. I'm still trying to find the optimal route for it. I find that the stage is not worth trying to no miss since the boss is worth so much.

Thanks, I'm actually number 1 on the leaderboards on that stage :) I noticed that each one of those large missiles right before the boss drops a platinum CR (and the same goes for the embrasures on the back of the boss - however, they drop gold CR during the actual boss fight). I had a pretty good run and managed to get just one more multiplier before the boss fight. Yeah, you absolutely have to do whatever it takes to destroy all of the boss' parts on that level.

There is still one more thing that I just can't wrap my head around on that level. ALOEsan somehow manages to get 5-8 platinum CR when he destroys the first missile. I've tried to mimic exactly what he does yet somehow I can't get any higher than gold.

It looks like this post from aquas on the main Ginga Force thread might come in handy here :
Aquas wrote:More notes on the scoring system. It became apparent to me how it works since I'm trying Normal mode score attack tonight. So here's the jist: You destroy enemies and they shower bronze medals. If those bronze medals are on screen and you destroy another enemy, you'll likely get platinum medals. If you get bronze and platinum on the screen, then destroy a big or medium sized enemy, you'll get golden medals.

In Chapter 7 (the big jet) what you should do is weaken the medium sized enemies in such a way that you can destroy them in succession, one after another, so that there medals will all be on the screen. The larger enemies will sometimes just regularly drop small Gold CR. However if you have bronze on the screen, you might get a Large Platinum. If you have gold medals on the screen, you might get a large gold medal from the large enemy. This is roughly how getting CR works.

The size of the enemy roughly determines their base CR value. So you finnickle around with destroying lesser enemies, then destroying bigger ones in succession and you'll be in a higher multiplier than usual right away. I think it's pretty simple and fun, to distribute damage between the enemies for kills in succession.

Once again in Chapter 7, before you knock off the guy raping the jet: make sure a bronze medal is floating on screen from killing one of the popcorns that come from the left or the right. Then when he drops down you'll get a ton of gold CR instead of platinum. You'll find other ways to maximize medal spewing from various midbosses and bosses and such with clever timing and observation of small ememies and bullet cancelling parts of bosses, I think.

In summary: Destroy small, more small, more small (bronze, platinum, gold) > then medium (get large medals) > then large all at once. (get large golds?)
