Thanks to Necronopticous for keeping the previous thread. In light of the amount of excellent STGT scores, I decided to increase the X-36 board to a 30 entry limit. All updated.

Hey man,

Thanks for taking over. You are certainly more than qualified.

This thread has not been as eventful as it deserves the past few years. Hopefully between STGT 2012 and a shiny new hi-score board that will change. There is good competition now.

At one time I had actually spent some time snatching out all of ship name images out of MAME and had them instead of just the big normal text. I lost those images somehow when my old web host died, and I have always intended to go back and do that as it really looked nice and brought a little personality to the board. Just a suggestion if you've got the time to do it.

Keep pushing!

No worries. The ship pictures is a really neat idea, actually; maybe I'll go hunt for those tomorrow. Thanks for keeping the thread for so long, and good luck with your real life stuff. :)

...And regarding 'keep pushing', don't worry, I intend to take back that top spot once STGT is over. ;) We'll see how that goes.

Err, it was actually the pictures of the ship names that I had previously, but the ship sprites would be an awesome addition as well! I believe there is actually a debug mode that you can access through the maintenance screen which allows you to browse art assets in the game which would be perfect for something like that.

You guys are getting quite close to world record I think (3.5 million last I checked). Are you hitting all of the tech bonuses on the second loop? It might be time to start considering working in attempts at the tech bonus glitch into your runs to stretch that score as far as possible. I went through a phase where I focused on them heavily, and I was actually able to pull off the glitch on the 1-5 boss about half the time. It is ridiculously precise, but with scores of 3 million+ I think it is a logical next step.

I have a 'low risk' plan for about 3.15-3.18m which involves a few safety bombs and all regular techs, but I've been looking at higher risk stuff for afterwards. I've learned the Shadow Blinder double tech a while back and with some practice I think I could pull that off with decent consistency, and I was thinking about biting the bullet and switching to Geobite for a shot at that double tech too (and extra bragging rights). Since this is very much a 'high risk' plan, I'd also be trying to get a full NMNB and some good chaining in the loop, but a run like that is going to take a lot of time as opposed to the lower risk plan which I'm already at the right level for, more or less. I think if everything went ideally in the high risk plan it'd push the score to around 3.3m... any kind of improvement beyond that would be extremely tough.

Incredible! Last year I reached the top 10 and now I've dropped to 16. :o
Congrats to all the new players, and thanks to Necronopticous for taking care of the old highscore thread.

I'm more or less done with this game for now, I just toyed a bit around with the Phantom again.

@Sapz: if you are interested, feel free to fill the tables of the other planes with these scores. I love the F-4 and the AV-8 and played them quite a bit, the other three scores are not to be taken seriously but are solid nonetheless.

Does anyone know any good tips for maneuvering through dense patterns slowly, like the stage 5 and 7 bosses, as well as the part where Chaos Queen uses the 2 small brains that fill the screen with bullets? I have found that this game has sloppy controls for making small movements without dying; it's really fucking frustrating every time I die from slow, dense patterns.

I just completed this fairly decent run; my best ever on this game. Fairly decent by my standards because I am horrible at it. Goddamn this and the original Strikers 1945 are the most annoying and hard; Strikers 1945 II is so much easier.
Emo Fox Jet Pilot - 889,100 - 1-8 - X-36

My first death was at the stage 5 boss, when it used the first wave of slow, tiny bullets. Damn the stupid controls, I can barely squeeze between anything with the sensitivity of this game. :x Then I died again stupidly on stage 6 right at the beginning, but I managed to make it to 600,000 for the extend. The boss fight against Cross Blade consisted of bomb spamming and extreme rare luck in dodging the final patterns. I managed to get through the fairly easy stage 7 with no deaths, while bomb spamming and super-shot usage against Shadow Blinder. Stage 8 went alright at first, but I ended up bombing at the part where the midboss has the 2 turrets on each side. I then wasted my remaining bombs to protect myself from Chaos Queen's cocoon when she uses the stupid, tightly packed patterns. I then got completely destroyed when her first form popped out and used the attack where she swipes her claws to make a spread shot.

Scratch my last score, here is a slight improvement.
Emo Fox Jet Pilot - 903,100 - 1-8 - X-36

I barely got to Chaos Queen's second form, and I had no bombs left, so I got killed by the stupid attack with the 2 small brains that cover the screen with bullets. :x Goddamn, I can't even break 1mil because I can only get the tech bonuses from bosses 1-4 by using 1 bomb on each, after that it's just too hard, and I have to bomb repeatedly and kill the boss as quickly as possible just to survive. I also can't chain medals for crap.

Have you tried watching a video? You shouldn't have to bomb to get the tech bonus.

I have watched several videos, but I just get too nervous when trying to get through the patterns and I always end up dying. I used to be able to get the tech bonus only for Stage 1 (Grand Canyon) without bombing, but now I have to use a bomb because I don't want to lose a life.

It doesn't get me any higher on this board, but hey, first 2-whatever in a Psikyo game.

Was not ready to tackle Mother Russia due to stupidly dying twice on that comparatively easy spread shot of Chaos' comparatively easy last form.

Does anyone know what the setting labeled "LifeTime" does in the stage select? For those of you who don't know the code for stage select it's 8-1-6-5-0

That should refer to the rank that builds simply by staying alive, which is why it goes down whenever you die (the implied Power Down notwithstanding).

I found a strange glitch in this game that makes your plane unable to move or shoot and become invincible. It only works if you go to the stage select menu and you pick stage 8, round 2, and you have to set the stage rank to 14. All other settings don't matter. When the game starts, you will not be able to move or shoot, but you can't be killed. The only useful thing about this is to see how long the midboss and the bosses take to time out I guess. Another weird thing is if you start with 2 players, the enemies will only shoot at player 1. I did notice, however that some patterns were unable to hit either of the planes while they were in the default starting position.

Damn. Great run. Is that in Mame or are you playing at Game Oldies?

I still can't decide between the Raptor or the Harrier.
My lord, I have come for you.

Thanks.
Yes, it was done on Mame.

I wouldn't really recommand any plane other than the X-36 to be honest.
The Raptor is more balanced, but still quite weak ; the Harrier is painfully slow, but might be fine if you don't bother with the tech bonuses and just want to carpet bomb your way through the game.

Lowest score? Lowest score.

This is a pretty good game, and I'd like a better clear in the future if possible.

Congrats on the ALL! Second loop on this thing is no joke. I'm always pleased to see new clears here.

thanks! I still have plenty of problem spots and suck at chaining, so getting a good clear down won't be easy. I improved my run slightly, but the lategame was absolutely terrible. normally I have the 2-6 boss down well, but because of a single bomb due to not getting into position during the appearance, my damage route was completely messed up and while I was thinking about how best to fix it, I forgot how the pattern went and used another bomb! It just went downhill from there. on the bright side this is the first time I no-missed as far as I did, all the way to the 2-7 boss. just gotta get more consistent and pull it together. apparently my stream had 36 viewers which I'm not used to at all so nerves kicked in as well...

Died on 2-5 with a bunch of bombs... 2-6 and 2-7 were bad too...

this might be my final score even though I could get so much more, no-missing the game with a big bomb stock is scary ;_;
