1st time post in this section guys but just thought I had to post here since I was talking to my mate yesterday who has been playing this a fair bit lately.

He doesn't have the internet (or even a PC  ) as he spends all of his time actually playing games I think.

Any way he tells me his Gradius top score is now around 1,700,000 and he can get to the 4th loop. Is this a record and if so is it worth getting a photo of his hi-score screen to post up here? Oh, he's playing on the Saturn version I think, normal settings.

I was pretty good on this too back in the day but have never been close to the 4th loop. Think I made the 3rd one a couple of times but only just. :)

Aquas - 390,900 - Gradius II Arcade (MAME) - 2-1 - Force - Type 4

Woo, clear. Didn't take that long... All that's left is III to complete 1-5 :D I might try to work at the 2nd loop a bit, because it's pretty fun from what I've tried.

Aquas - 463,500 - 2-3 - MAME

Whee. Figured how to deal with zub rush in 2-2... don't shoot the zubs unless you have to! 2-3 was too much to handle.

OK, my reply notifications apparently went on vacation for this topic, but I think I got everything caught up. Let me know if I missed something.

Hey Zach, for Gradius I I just noticed I've been playing on the easy setting, and not medium which I believe is normal. I wasn't using the right extend settings either. So go ahead and remove my entry for now, if you want, I'll try to get a new one up there soon though. My bad.

-------------

EASY MODE SCORE RANT
Gradius I - some score - 2-7 - easy

I did a run live on ustream tonight. Things of note are that a third speedup and a third option with double worked out for me on 2-4 (cliff stage, right?) No lazer equip this run partly because I forgot I had bound another button to manually fire them, but I feel a bit more safe with double to be honest. I used a fourth speedup on stage 7 and that was a mistake I think, three is probably good enough, but the third option does help because then I can hang the options behind me to take out the oncoming walker turrets and such. Stuff happens so quickly though, that I was shot down before I knew it. Then I futily tried to recover with 6 or so lives, if I had been doing some checkpoint milking for scoring, this score could be significantly better. I'm surprised no one has 2-looped this here, I'm gonna aim for it, because it's totally within my reach. EDIT: FOR EASY MOOOOODDEEE durrrr

btw if you have a twitter account, I update when I go on the air if you want to watch it next time. twitter.com/Aqy

Fun run, a little disappointed I didn't make the million and 3rd loop, though. I didn't replenish my shield at the right time. Proof picture below, since this is a #1 score :D (my first one!)

Gradius -- 431,300 2-2 on the PSP. I'll try to improve upon this later, though.
Gradius 2 -- 359, 500 (got to the boss rush, whichever stage that is. First loop). PSP, also.

EDIT: No, scratch that Gradius 2 score. I fiddled with the options and noticed that I was playing on easy, so it doesn't count. I'm starting again on normal.

I redid my 1LC of the 1st loop of Gradius NES this time without using autofire since i was unsure wether autofire is cheating on a game like Gradius.

When the 2nd loop was starting I paused the game for 30 mins, had a bite to eat, returned and died in the 1st stage and couldnt get past that stage, died 3 times at the volcano due to not having the lasers and dieing to stray rocks. It seems to me that if u lose a life past the 1st loop in gradius ur screwed.

TrevHead Gradius NES 494,800 2-1

(note please dont use TVR in my scores as some1 else has been using the same name for a long time)

Went into 2-5 with Double like an idiot. Used an emulator, used autofire, used Archimendes-hen (promotional version; same game with a few graphical changes)

I immediately quit after stage 1 of loop 2 because my nestopia emu recording is too heavy to carry on. Still, great run.
