Gradius + Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou - Now with FC goodness

Post by Zach Keene »

Note: Perikles is now maintaining the Gradius/Gradius II scoreboards in this thread.

PSX, Saturn, or arcade versions only please; pretty much all the other versions have different scoring, different and/or new stages, various hidden bonuses, or who knows what else that would make keeping track of them all a nightmare. (Edit: separate tables for NES/FC versions added).

I honestly don't know if any differences exist between the regional versions of Gradius 2...

EDIT: based on elbarto's post I'm going to have to say no.

The extend settings are different for Vulcan Venture.

20k/every 70k (default), 30k/every 80k, 20k only, 70k only.

Gradius
elbarto - 240,700 - 1-4 - SS

Thought I had a Gradius II score written down as well, but I'll have to wait until I dig the Saturn out again.

Finally someone decided to put this one up. GREAT!

Gradius:

676900 2-4 manual

Gradius II:

697400 2-3 type-4 force field manual

Both are PSOne scores.

Dammit, I just got repeatedly pwned in the 2-3 dogfight in Gradius. Never even got to see the loop-assisted Moai...

Zach Keene - 632,600 - 2-3 - SAT

Guess I'll go ahead and put up this G2 score, even though I had a 300K+ score before my Saturn battery went down in flames:

Zach Keene - 233,800 - 1-5 - Type 3 - F - SAT

How about the X68000 versions of Gradius and Gradius II Gofer? Gradius doesn't have the extra level the MSX and PC Engine versions do, but I don't know if there's differences in scoring.

Woohaa! I finally beat Gradius! My score was 308,200 and I made it to 2-1. This was the X68000 version. On to Gradius II...

I haven't beaten Gradius II yet, but here's my preliminary score. 261,500 using ship 2 with the two ball shields. I think I was on 1-7. It's the "boss rush" part where you've got to destroy the Gradius 1 boss, that big brain, and then that ship with the tentacles (almost beat 'em, too). Hopefully I'll have the first loop finished in a day or two.

Oh, and it's the X68000 version.

Gradius
453,200 - 2-2 - Sat

Managed to 1-life the first round :D
(then lost all lives to the bit right before the 2-2 boss)

What is the "NoWait" option that's now appeared for? No slowdown mode?

Just seemed a bit odd having it on the title screen, when the wait control options for GII are in the option screen..

I'm an idiot btw.. that GII run was with Type 4 (Ripple/2Way), not Type 3. Sorry

Gradius II
elbarto - 410,600 - 1-8 - Type 4 - Force - SAT

Somehow managed to get to 1-8 on my first life :)

Option Hunter turned up just as I'd triggered the second attack pattern of the final Salamander boss (Gaw?) on stage 7, and then proceded to steal all my options. If it had been 5 seconds earlier (on the previous pattern) there would have been no problem avoiding it and the boss' shots.. :x

Couldn't destroy everything quickly enough on stage 8 and just got overwhelmed in one of the tight tunnels.

Gradius 2

Galaxius - 508,00 - 2-1 - Type 4 - Force - PSX

I could have done much better on the second loop, but I one-lifed the first loop, so that should count for something

Man, it's hard to power-up on the second loop!

950000 2-5 Force Field Type-4

I did beat the boss in 2-5, but I got owned by its suicide bullets... :(

incidentally, there is a pc version of the deluxe pack... BUT...

it is often plagued with slowdown . so it's n good.

also, if playing mame or PCB, you may not play Nemesis, as it has been hacked to give you extra powerup capsules after death, or at least some versions of the rom.

Just picked Deluxe Pack up recently and find I've been a fool all the years I only played the NES version..

Gradius
RFP - 167 700 1-4 Default Difficulty Saturn

Edit:

Now it's 201 600 1-4

And you can add Gradius 2 now.

RFP - 118 000 - 1-3 Type 3 Forcefield Saturn
Damn that St3 boss.

Has anybody seen the Loop 10 Gofer no Yabou-Video on super-play.co.uk? Pure insanity - in the end, he has more lives than fit on the screen... and in fact, his score is "0570400". The zero shows that he has already had a score of 9,999,990...

A score from the first tournament organised by Ramus.

GRADIUS
Icarus - 739,900 - 2-7 - Saturn

No Missed the first loop (with 3 Options), lost the first life at the start of 2-1, took the second life to 2-5, lost about five lives in quick succession. Recovered enough to make it through 2-6 unscathed with two Options, Laser and Missile, then promptly fumbled the whole game by crashing into disappearing scenery >_<

I don't have the screenshots handy at the moment. This score is replay verified.

Galaxius - 1,047,400 - 2-5 - Type 4 - FF - PSX Deluxe Pack

Finally broke a million! Killed the loop 2 Moai boss twice, but died both times from an errant suicide bullet.

I also played with no wait, if that matters.

And, check my Gradius II trick video on Youtube. It has a bunch of safe spots, milks, and quick kills-

I saw that a few days back. Didn't know you posted it. Cool video. That moai mini boss leaching trick never gets old. I can also never manage to do it. I've seen the boss leached as well in the upper left corner with options dragged out.
