What does it mean that your score starts with a "B"?
I'll try to figure out which parts to let bundles of 10K medals drop, maybe the key to clearing it...

It means 11 million in a game that has fixed amount of digits for a purely stylistic reason.

1 → 2 […] → 9 → A → B → C […] → Z → a → b → c.

The easiest and thus recommended parts are both snake sections in stage 4 and to a good extent the whole of stage 6.

Do I smell incoming competition from a TCACTRM teammate there? I'm always up for it.

I guess you're not interested in 1.00, are you?

Nice scores! When you say Kasumi (D), do you mean Start or A+B? I assumed it was start, but I could be wrong.

I'm not sure how different it is from the PCB, but score attack mode kinda sucks. I usually get about 4 million points from the stage, then the rest of it comes from how lucky I get on the boss. Between phases, it does a sweeping laser similar to Black Heart's vulcan attack, and the number of sweeps is completely random, but each cycle is worth an extremely lucrative 300-400k points when bombed.

My 5.9m run is #2 on the leaderboard and wasn't all that great, but I got a high number of sweeps which more than made up for it.

Arrange
Chempop - 163,610,550 - 1-7 - Kasumi

Made it to the last boss with three lives and he killed me with all sorts of lasers I've never seen before. I totally blew it, oh well, at least I have a much better sense of what to do now.

Chempop - 164,236,460 - All - Kasumi

Ahhhh yesss, was such an exciting run, nearly lost faith entering Stage 7, but was able to squeak through on my last life. Final form did the attack with screen full of blue and green bullets, I just stayed in the corner and countered with homing missiles, much easier than those damn lasers he was using last time!

I'm eager to get serious with 1.01 now

Arcade 1.01
DMC - 4,005,120 - Stage 5 - Kasumi (A)

Milking in this game seemed extremely tedious and boring at first glance, but it is strangely addictive. I'm starting to see the light!

Anyway, any good strategy for getting the extend at stage 3?

The one the tank drops? Pretty easy, I usually kill the duckies on the right side of the screen first and then as the two big tanks enter shot the first one for a second or two until it stops and then let the second tank crash into it.

Just shoot the tank's right side for a second or two until it stops.

Oh, and use Lace next time, everything else is a waste of time.

Missed the stage 3 extend and lost the medal chain somewhere before the stage 4 snakes; annihilated by stage 5.

Arrange normal
edit (new score below):
DMC - 276,141,820 - ALL - Meidi & Midi

Pretty fun for an arrange mode. Some good songs too (level 2 and 7).

Plasmo: I haven't got used to Lace' weapon yet, I die all the time. I think I'll play around with Kasumi some more, before I switch.

Question: I read that there are two 1-UPs on stage 7. I know one of them, four tanks in the middle of the stage; just let go of the one on the bottom. Where is the second 1-UP? Is it the three tanks before the bosses? Haven't seen any second 1-UP (playing in arrange btw if that matters).

1.01 Normal
EBR - 6,128,760 - Stage 6 - Lace (A)

A couple of unbelievable mistakes vs. the second st6 midboss threw me off balance and ruined the run. Also didn't get the st3 extend, and was crushed against a corner by the st5 boss - didn't know that could happen, would have no-missed into stage 6 if not for that.

It's probably just mad crazy timing at the four tanks, since the bottom two carry extends: let the first one get run over by the second, disable the second a split-second later, let the third run over the second.

This.

It's really difficult, but still possible.

1.01 Normal
EBR - 7,780,560 - Stage 6 - Lace (A)

Again missed the st3 extend, and somehow died twice in stage 3 as well. Game over to the stage 6 boss because I'm stupid, it's more or less impossible to die to it if you're just trying to get through.

Also, as usual, zero rank management - max rank is still nothing to worry about on a 1.01 "survival" run, the cap is MUCH lower than in 1.00.

edit:

1.01 Normal
EBR - 8,009,040 - ALL - Lace (A)

Got the st3 extend...... and somehow let the first random extend (the only I was aiming for) fall off the screen a few seconds later. One stupid death somewhere I can't remember now (stage 4 or 5), obliterated by the kamikaze thingies at the end of stage 6. Reached st6 boss with no lives to spare, no missed from there - still got one extend from the tanks and a random one I really didn't see coming right at the start of stage 7.

Replay is up on the leaderboards. Now, to improve that score, or to learn everything again from scratch and attack 1.00, that is the question.......

Aren't still 1.00 and 1.01 collapsed together on the online rankings, despite 1.01 being easier? If you wanna compete against others on the leaderbords then, 1.01 is the one to go imo. Re. real thing, if Cave considered 1.00 the real thing, why set 1.01 to default, and include it with 1.00 in the online rankins?

Do not neglect arrange either, it is surpisingly fun for being called "arrange". It is basically Battle Bakraid 2 with crazy suiciding/bombing/chaining techniques.

I just discovered you can mix tracks from arcade and arrange mode as you want, great feature!! :D Despite a few bugs, this release is 100% awesome!

You sort of missed the point. 8M is rather poor for a Lace clear, maybe I just want a respectable 1.01 score before going to 1.00.
DMC wrote:Re. real thing, if Cave considered 1.00 the real thing, why set 1.01 to default, and include it with 1.00 in the online rankins?
Because Cave does stupid things? Right now I find 1.01 superior but maybe it's just the "I can't handle 1.00 yet" part of me speaking.

Arrange is fun, but it's no Bakraid. I'd rather go back to chasing the western record for Bakraid.

Probably from both. As a purist, I have no other choice than 1.00, as a gamer who seeks a real challenge, 1.01 is rather uninteresting for me.

CAVE is full of bullshit lately. Who plays for a good ranking on the leaderboards? Here we are at shmups.com, this is where the real leaderboards are.
