A 1-ALL of ddp should qualify for the hi-score table(seeing chirpy score 3 posts above) or/and 40M score.
1-ALL is a great accomplishment already;have heart!

Speaking of which, I had finally my 1-all!

Unfortunately I could not break the 300 combo limit this time, but maybe later..

No its not, there are a billion bombs in this game and its really easy to bomb spam your way through the first loop if that is your only goal.

Listening to Joe Satriani over the game makes it so much more enjoyable (is it just me or do a lot of the themes sound suspiciously like Surfing with the Alien?)... and bombing liberally, I'd have gotten to 2-5 with less stupidity, and I obviously don't know my chains after a few days of randoming around :|

Hocus Pocus :P Highlight of run is bombing the 2-3 boss and triggering his phase of doom with both side turrets still active...

This game isn't getting nearly enough action these days.

Fun fact: the max chain comes from 2-5. I used the C button autofire setting so you have to set that in orded to make the input play correctly.

That's a very good score Erppo !!
And with C-S, yummy ! Jackpot max hit xD
I'll watch the replay when I have some time.

Edit :
Good job ! I really like the sexy, completely different C-S style. Some parts of first loop seem harder because of the difficulty to chain with laser, and some parts of second loop seem a little easier thanks to the very powerful shot that fills up the gauge instantly. That was a very fast improvement of your old score, unless you have kept playing DDP all this time ? I think with a little more refinement of your rough spots you could go with maximum bonus to 2-3 boss and score over 300M !

And you're right, DDP hasn't been getting nearly enough action these days. That dates back from when DOJ became playable in MAME, I think. But it makes sense, DOJ is better. The only thing that is inferior about DOJ is the execution quality of the graphics (DDP is brilliantly executed pixel art, DOJ has great overall graphics design but the pre-rendered models weren't translated so well into pixels, and some of the 3D models seemed to be sub-par, like the stage 4 boss or the player's ships, imo). About everything else in DOJ is superior, I think (music, gameplay, level design, difficulty...). I still love DDP and always will, though. And hate at the same time of course :)

Thanks. I haven't played the game that much after my last score. I only really started it after my last DOJ attempt when I was supposed to go back to DFK but got addicted to this instead  (You can also blame moozooh for providing me with the NAI superplay)

I'm still playing this, I just felt like submitting this score because reaching 2-7 for the first time seemed like a nice milestone. I can't really name a goal since I'm probably just going to do the usual thing of playing this until I get bored or frustrated. I got some sort of plans for the entire game now but I'm obviously still a long time of practice away from actually executing all of that.

Javel - 139,926,940 - C-S - 2-6 - 532

inp, Shmupmamev3b (contains two runs)

Chained stage 4 for the first time in a real run. 93M at the end of the 1st loop.
2nd loop: Ridiculously lucky dodges all over the place. I don't have a clue how to tackle 2-5 and I've only been to 2-6 a couple of times.

I've played around a little with C-L and I'm considering a switch.

First decent 1CC score. My long journey to 100 million has begun. As always, no save states will be used.

Finally getting somewhere. Terrible first loop... no decent chain, ended 1-6 with zero lives and only 2 bombs remaining...
then managed to panic dodge my way to 2-3 midboss!

I notice it's been about 10 months since this got updated. I know =SNC= is still about the forum, so I'll give him a nudge. Hopefully he's keen to keep on top of this. If not, I'd love to do it. Either way, we'll get this updated soon.

Thanks! I've been playing the game for over a year now, but until earlier this month had never even made it to stage 6.

That run was just about optimal for what I know how to do so far, so now I have to decide if I want to learn how to chain stage 4, or learn how to get through stages 5 and 6 with less deaths/bombs so that I have more resources next time I'm in the loop.

Hi all, I'm new to this game, started practicing last week, it has this weird unfair scoring system but is strangely compelling for some reason.. so if it's okay I wanted to ask some questions:

1. When I researched recording replays, I found something about clearing nvram before recording. Do I need to do that with this game?

2. Does anyone have a replay of someone getting 191/192 hits after the first midboss? I tried lots of times but couldn't ever get more than 190hit, but I've read some places it's possible to get more?

Hello prales.

You shouldn't need to delete NVRAM before recording with DDP, I don't think I ever had to do that but it may depend on which version of MAME you are using.

I've never paid much attention to getting over 190Hits for the first part of 1-1. You can research that if you like, but you must know the impact of it on your score is too small to make any significant difference ! To improve faster, I recommend trying to learn other chains approximately, and only then trying to optimize and grab those few additionnal hits here and there. The larger the chain, the more points those few additionnal hits will count towards your score.

Have fun with DoDonPachi !

I could have literally mashed the bomb button and gotten 100m. Such a ridiculous choke, but I had never fought the 2-4 boss before and I panic bombed which made me move slower and out of my normal path during his lasers..

Trust me you will restart the game enough that you will optimize stage 1 to get 191/192 hits. Its all about hitting big enemies as early as possible, but yea like Prom says focus on other chains. Adding 5 hits to a full stage 2 chain is alone is worth way way more, not to mention working on full chains in stage 4, 5, and 6, while optimizing stage 3's chains/bullet cancelling.

Managed to get into the high score table by excessively practicing stage 2 with savestates and restarting until I got the full chain. And really it's just stage 2, I barely know what I'm doing in any of the other stages
