Cyvern got slower pace and worse recoveries from losing medals IMO.

Bad soundtrack too.

The bosses in this game are so utterly unfair that they alone make me hate the game. I did find it funny that the final attack of boss 2 was by far and wide the easiest - before, it threw everything including the kitchen sink at you, but for that final attack, it was just a normal, reasonable bullet pattern.

Getting better. Lost my last extend right at the final part of the stage 3 boss and what does it do? Gives me 3 small weapon powerups. Not two little ones and a big one, no, three small ones. Cue me having to BOMB my way through those goddamned insects just so I don't get killed by them. Managed to bomb my way through the last boss too but then died right before getting an extend to something I didn't see at the start of 4.
