Stage 3 is a whole different story. It makes very much sense there to bomb the stationary base as soon as it comes onto the screen to milk all the pigs for as long as possible. It's worth quite a bit.

Ah ok, that is what I was tring to do to get that lavender pig on stage 2. What confuses me is, do I have to be shooting the turret when I input the macro? It seems like the turret dies too quickly for me to input more than 2 buttons.

I really need to learn how to score in the first loop, since Jupiter is a pretty big wall for me in the second loop.

Is it just finding those pigs that makes those scores so much higher? I see scores nearing 20mil but on the first loop still. Makes my stage 8 6.6 mil look pathetic.

You have to do it right after you've destroyed the tower. There's a time window of at least 3secs, it's very generous. It helps to do the wiggling constantly while you're destroying the tower to higher your chances of doing it correctly. At least that's what I do.

The pigs aren't that important for scoring. The peach pigs won't give you any points at all.

The most important trick in the game is the stage 4 boss trick. It gives you around 12mill points if you milk it perfectly without dying. You can suicide yourself on purpose there to gain yet another 5mill at least.
The second big scoring trick is the platform on stage 5 (3-4mill) and of course the round tanks on stage 5 (5-6mill).

Again, I suggest reading the ST for further information or the superplay on youtube, which demonstrates a counterstop at 99mill.

Thanks Plasmo!

I'll have to take a look through the guide again, but thats the trick where you let the tanks build up until they are flashing red and then bomb them? If so than I assume the suicide is for more bombs. Thats why you said something about having 7 bombs once you get to jupiter. Makes sense now.

I'm not sure which tricks you mean on stage 3. I know about the area with tons of pigs (which I apparently should bomb to milk them as much as possible)

I suppose I should look through the ST once again. I always have a hard time thining back to which enemies the ST is referring to, since I don't have the option to savestate or save replays

I don't suppose there is a superplay, or even just a first loop run where someone does these scoring tricks?

Definitely check out where he positions himself during the stage 3 pigs. That can bump up your score to 2M. There's also a few safe spots during the Jupiter trick that makes it easier than it looks.

Edited my post above with the links to the superplay. There's another one with Type A, but I guess the Type B one is more useful for you.

Awesome, thanks to both of you!

@Plasmo: I actually play all 3 characters in this game. I find them all really balanced. I have only managed to loop the game with Type B and Type C so far though.

After watching the replay and reading the comments, I can finally shed light on some things that we thought were right over all these years, but that actually weren't. ratikal was right after all! :!:

About the macro: It's actually not about a command you have to enter quickly, but simply about holding the right directions when destroying the object in question.

Stage 2: Hold RIGHT+DOWN
Stage 3: Hold DOWN
Stage 5: Hold LEFT+DOWN

And we have some exact numbers for the bonusses:

The stage 4 boss trick with all red tanks lined up is worth 1,311,680 per bomb.
The platform trick on stage 5 gives you 3,279,650 points.

Other stuff about the replay:

-You can get the second boss to shoot less by doing wide sweeps across the screen. This way it's possible to milk the boss for a few more points without doing too many risky maneuvers.

-Note that his milking strategy on stage 4 boss is far from being ideal. He destroys the first turrets way to slow and thus gets the nastier pattern sooner. It's possible to do the bomb trick 10-11 times before the nasty pattern starts. In the replay it already starts after the ninth bomb. Use this replay as a reference for a much better strategy. With some minor changes it's easily applicable for Type B aswell.

Starting to get more comfortable with the second loop. Still died right before Jupiter in the second loop and right before the GROUND OF THE GARAXY in the first >_<.

Finally, this works perfectly in MAME!

Image

Special - Estebang - 3,703,000 - 7 - Type A (Jeeno)

I managed to one-life everything up through Stage 3. Stage 5 onward was done completely blind, I hadn't gotten that far before. Haven't digested the commands for pigs and the like yet. I'm sure I can improve this a lot.

Gotta say, this and V-Five put some of Cave's works to shame, disregarding that many of the same staff worked on both.

I really love this game, but I fail ass at that Jupiter trick, even after all the help from Ratikal and Plasmo.

I won't give up though!

DOWN WITH THEM!
Image
Ratikal - 85,679,920 - ALL - Type B (¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
I had four lives in reserve that could've been used to milk Jupiter more. The next logical step is to beat Plasmo (200k POINTS!!!) and get that counterstop!

.INP. No miss until Stage 12 Boss. It gets out of sync at the last boss, probably because I paused to check to see what button took screenshots (F12, but in the rush, you can never be sure) for the big moment (it was gonna happen no matter what at that point). I didn't use bombs for the last boss or lost a life during him which got me the 4M points.

Still working on this. If I don't fuck up the third and fourth loop I should be golden. I don't have an .inp for this one because it fucking desynced in the fourth stage. I guess this version of MAME doesn't like pauses, even if its just to scratch my nose. Guess I'll have to disable the button from now on.

The result of me finally learning that "pigs exist!"

Special:
Estebang - 6,894,000 - 8 - Type B (Beltiana)

One life was shamefully wasted almost as soon as I spawned. Having a tough time sweeping close to enemies to stop their suicide bullets from coming out. I also failed to transport the mecha in Stage 5 across the gap for the special bonus.

ORLY?!?! Good job, Sik! :) I remember the compo I got that score. I never really learned the game, myself. I simply used Rando's own scoring guide against him lol. I think Rando ended up scoring like 18M+ iirc, but he never uploaded his score. Maybe one day I'll make another run at this and see what I can get.
