Can someone with the US version of Deathsmiles look up my score on the leaderboards on MBL1.1 with Windia and send it via PM? I forgot to write it down when I change to the JP version :oops: The initals to look for are TYJ. Thanks in advance.

So, now I'm really confused.

At the jonny5 meet today, I 1CC'd the PCB version twice -- once with Windia (~51M) and again with Rosa (~55M).

I come home, fire the game up in MAME (CAVEUI32 v1.2.1) and I died on the first half of the last stage (before the ballroom section).

I know the slowdown in MAME isn't emulated properly, it's extremely obvious after have just played the PCB, but either jonny5's PCB isn't set correctly or the default settings in MAME are wrong, because the damage is completely different.

I see in the settings there are two damage settings, and mine is set to 4 for Enemy Damage and 5 for Bullet Damage. Are these the correct defaults?

Those are the correct defaults for arcade mode. At least as far as I know on the Xbox port.

As stated, the defaults for DS is:

Life 3
Difficulty 2
Enemy Damage 4
Bullet Damage 5
Bomb 3

If you're still in doubt, test this during the gameplay:

-a half of damage is recieved if you touch an enemy, environmental elements, bosses, or a boss's object (ex. Whroon's apples, flying rocks in volcano, ect...).

-one life is lost if you get hit by a bullet or a suicide bullet.

If you are finding yourself getting hit more than 2 times before losing a life, then you may have the wrong settings (ie. it's either 1 life or 0.5 of a life).

I had been wanting to ask, but what do the difficulty settings do on the console version? I haven't noticed anything different from regular gameplay.

Ok I thought so ... so the PCB I was playing on is not on defaults then, I seem to take a million hits and hardly ever lose a full bar.

I've been pondering that too. I ask the same question when in training mode it gives you the difficulty option of default or no miss. I think the difficulty setting slightly changes the bullet speed.

From what I observed:
-No change in enemy health and boss health for each lvl(1-999). Meaning they don't take longer to kill when you set the difficulty to max.

-I don't think it even raises rank since you choose it at the beginning of the stages and the game automatically adjust the bullet behavior based on your path selections.

I'm sepculating. Maybe someone can look into the programming of the game and see what it does???

I tried to determine if the miniscule delay between a hit and a loss of life differs with each setting (much like Touhou's Death-bombing tolerance time), but so far no luck

Not gonna get me high up but I've only had the pcb a few days and its the first one I've ever cleared on on a coin :D It's not like ill ever 1cc Silvergun either :lol:

I've been really enjoying Deathsmiles Mega Black Label v1.1 lately.
Managed to just pinch top spot on the PAL leader-boards, so thought I'd submit my humble score.

I've been eyeing up the top score on your list, but think it may be a bit beyond my capabilities. I always seem to take a few hits on the extra stage bosses :-( Still that's what gives these games that just one more go quality.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of challenge in the AAA titles these days. Just my opinion I know, but I always seem to fall back on Cave's shooters when I really want to test my old-school gaming metal. ;-)

I'm thinking of writing a DS Mega Black Label "advanced scoring" guide to iron out all the details to this game since I'm seeing inconsistencies and information everywhere. <--That and I'm forgetting how to score in this game.

Is anyone interested?

Me too. I haven't played this for over a year but I think I'm going to start up again.

The Ice Palace is such a great stage but I never score as well as I should. I've seen replays where I'm basically doing the same thing, but these players are scoring so much higher. It must be my positioning being very slightly off... or overusing the lockshot.
