You can't just use one bomb right after the other to kill the 4th boss. If you do that, after 3 bombs he still survives for a little bit. Keep shooting at him pointblank and only bomb when one of his shots is about to hit you. Do it this way and 3 bombs are enough to kill him.

Also, only pointblank him AFTER he's done entering the screen. If you get too close to him before that, his core will shoot at you and kill you by surprise.

I really need to start playing this again...

Mills, are you seriously having trouble with a game that is now 17 years old? ;)

So i take it you've already 2nd looped it then..........not. Got a replay of you doing 1st loop then......not. The age of the game has nothing to do with it when the game never arrived on the uk arcade scene, and was considered by japanese gamers as one of the most difficult shumps of its time. Only two japanese gamers have completed 2 loops.

ARE YOU SURE?!

There you go:

Mills wrote:Focus your attention on reaching 1st loop rather than beating your highscore as this game is old.

I am working for the loop, but I found it funny that I had never broken 300K and then I do so - with a 400K score.
Honestly, I think its each area that represents the actual 'milestone' kind of challenge.
Mills wrote:Truxton is nearly 20yrs old from its original arcade release. So posting a non completion score is hardly gonna give you brownie points of appreciation. The real challenge for this game is 1st loop completion with 1st life, max firepower and bombs.

Most definitely a rumour. A lot of people have 2-looped it, which actually doesn't make the game any easier.

I completed one loop in two or three days maybe about six years ago. I stopped playing after that, and I don't doubt I could do two loops fairly easily. :D

And thanks Plasmo! :)

My remark was specifically because of what you said, Mills, in the Raiden thread: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 94#p316994

Maybe you should heed your own advice and comments.

Hey plasmo, if what you say is true that alot of players have 2 looped completed this game, who are they? My source of info isn't from heresay of other players but from a well known japanese player named Shin, whom arrived in the london arcade scene in the early 1990's (went back to japan around 1997-98) and practically blew every top london streetfighter gamer, he could also play a few shumps. Shin would occasionly trek back to japan and update us with what was going on in the japanese arcade scene. Now that this game is virtually 20yrs old, obviously more players would have had an opportunity to play it.

I don't know anything about the situation back in 1990, but I think it would be ridiculous to think that only 2 people have been able to beat the game up to now. Mushihimesama Futari Ultra is by far the most difficult shooter ever and has been beaten by probably 3 or maybe even 4 people already. Truxton 2 isn't particularly easy, but it's not that hard either. Just a tad above average difficulty.
Outside Japan it might be possible that noone has cleared 2 loops, but in Japan alone you most definitely have very many. I don't know them personally though. It's just a bit of common sense that's been helping me to have these assumptions.

This game is long enough that there's probably somebody still trying to finish their first credit inserted back in 1990.

Tatsujin Oh

sikraiken - 1,419,400 - 7 - JVL - MAME

http://beatthegame.net/jvl-tatsujinoh1419400wolf99.zip

WolfMAME .99 replay, one death, stopped after the loop.

I probably won't return to this because it feels too long to play one loop, let alone two.

Ruldra: Nice job on 1.3M. What do you use/do to capture your MAME replays as AVI?

Truxton II maybe, but Tatsujin Oh is the hardest shooter I've ever played.

I was talking about Truxton II / Tatsujin Ou, doesn't really matter which one. I take it that you haven't played a lot of shooters yet?

@sik
As usual, you're the man. Excellent job, can't wait for the encoded replay. :)

Cool, ill check back here later (thought it might be on your youtube but couldn't find it). Do you use full firepower and speed up throughout the game as i here this is not recommended due to the gameplay regulation? the main reason i use full firepower & speed up is to gain as many extra ships possible without bombing out the region until i reach 3rd level boss, plus i get 5 bombs at this point.

Damn you sik! I'm working on this game for months and you beat it in only two days! You're way too good. Nice job!

I use Hypercam 2 to record my runs and then do some minor editing with Virtualdub.

Okay I just watched the whole thing. Highlights:

- Sik goes through the whole game at full power
- Bombs the 1st boss twice, but it's fine since he doesn't have much experience with the game
- Lets the 3rd boss time out
- Kills the 4th boss without bombs :o
- Manages the first part of stage 5 perfectly, and with the green weapon
- Dies at the 5th boss, but beating him without bombs is almost impossible anyway
- Kills the 6th stage midboss without bombs
- Uses the blue weapon for the rest of the game. Don't you think the red weapon is better, sik?
- Suicides all lives at the start of 2nd loop

That was really impressive. I'm definitely using the replay as reference for some parts I'm having trouble.

Destroys the 4th boss without bombs :o what weapon is he using (the enemy boss bullets and lazers are so damn fast)? he can't be using full speed & full fire power to get that far in the game. unless hes playing the non japanese version.

Having some technical difficulties with the capture... go figure. Going to take me a while longer to get a video up.

1st boss I could care less about (and the game gives you bombs without consequence for scoring), so I just bombed there. I wasn't really paying attention to how many bombs I had though and screwed myself for the 5th boss.

On the 4th boss, I used blue to start, then switched to green. I don't really care what weapon I'm using most of the time, but I don't really like red (the weapon) and blue is my favorite color. For some parts of the game, I can't see the enemy bullets with blue, so I switch to green.

I played Tatsujin Oh, not Truxton II.

For what it's worth, I use Fraps to record. It works with Mame if you enable Direct3D and full screen.
