Welcome then! I hope you enjoy it.
I'm just off to a music festival for five days, so don't be deterred if you submit a score and I don't add it immediately. As soon as I'm back, I'll do the update...

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/ARC
That's nice for first day of play. I still can't get past that level 3 boss. I haven't been playing long, but long enough to tell that I'm going to have to practice to get anywhere in this one.

lol... fucked up a lot early on and used too many bombs, died on 1-4 boss, and lost the rest of the reserve lives in 1-5, ended up unlocking the "Not a Scratch" achievement on the 1-5 boss, going into 1-6 with no bombs... and I almost managed to get to the boss. hahah

Well, not entirely yet. Keep fucking up 360 mode runs so I played Arcade mode.antares wrote:I see my hiscore will probably be history by tomorrow.

Arcade Mode:
BBH - 37,458,880 - 2-3 - Raiden MKIIß
rank #35 on the leaderboards. things could have obviously gone better but I'm pretty happy with this
Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/ARC
I've been sticking to arcade mode, and going to 360 mode for a run or two. This was the farthest I got yet, that 3rd stage boss fight is pretty epic.
Arcade mode:
Acid King - 15,877,900 - 1-4 - Whatever the regular, non downloaded ship is called.

What is the difficulty on the world rankings play for arcade? Is it original or normal?
If it's on some easy mode, don't include my score.
Arcade:
Landshark - 23,073,100 - 1-5 - Default P1 Ship

yeah, what are the world rankings set to, cause I want to use them as my standard instead the offline modes
Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/ARC
Excellent. A load of new players. Welcome all! anteres - looks like we need to get back on Raiden IV! As soon as STGT09 is out the way, I'd better head back.
So, all is updated, and relevant gamer tags have been added. Glad to see this picking up again. I'm guessing the US release is the reason. Sorry for the delay in updating. I've been away.
Now, to clarify the questions about scores achieved in World Ranking mode...
In short there are two important difficulty settings on the 360 build:
Normal = The 'medium' setting for the 360 Mode
Original = The 'medium' setting for the Arcade Mode (And the medium/default on the PCB build.
Arcade Mode/the original PCB game are the same. They are both 'Original' difficulty by default. 360 Mode is on 'Normal' by default. 'Original' difficulty is actually a harder/higher setting than 'Normal', but as 360 Mode has more levels and a few more bullets and so on, it pretty much evens out. Arcade Mode delivers the easier 1CC.
Playing for World Rankings means that by default you play 360 Mode at 'Normal' and Arcade Mode at 'Original' difficulty, so scores achieved there are fine for here.
So, this time when I say 'in short' I mean it...
In short, World Ranking scores are fine for here!
NOW GO PLAY SOME DOUBLE PLAY!

And don't fret Square King - plenty of time to improve.

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/ARC
I tried some Double Play today and failed miserably. I haven't tried controlling two things at once since playing as both characters in Forgotten Worlds almost 20 years ago.
Are there some special tips anyone cares to share? Should I try keeping the ships together all the time (and apparently increase the firepower), or should I keep one as the "main" ship and just move the other one slightly when an aimed bullet comes its way? Probably it is just a matter of memorizing everything and planning accordingly.
It also doesn't help that I am not very good at the game in single player!

had this score on my phone for a while now when i was in Hong Kong...
i'll post it up just for save keeping
CHI - 10,988,410 - 1-3 - Raiden MkII (P1) - PCB
i've also seen this name ID4 demolishing all the Raiden IV boards in HK and one Raiden III in London

My advice for Double Play would be to go with the fire button fixed in place when you start out. For 360 pads just make sure you have the fire button mapped to a should trigger, and wrap a rubber band around. For sticks (I find DP far easier with sticks) a small piece of card, perhaps folded for extra thickness, wedged down the side of a button (In the INH DVD for Raiden III there’s a pic of a map pin used in the same way) holds it in place.
Then set every other button to bomb, because you’re going to need to panic bomb while you get used to it.
Also, as a DP beginner avoid crossing the ships – by this I mean keep the left on the left and the right on the right.
Play with a style that involves the least movement, and for tricky sections use the corner of the screen to perfect align your ships (breaking the rule above temporarily) so you can play with them as one.
Check out these superplays, and stick with it. Play with a memoriser approach too.
Also, often you can keep one ship almost still and do the work with the other.
That’s it really – you just have to persist. Even learning to DP level one feels amazing. The reward is well worth the torture of learning, and then you can call yourself a double-player! Perhaps most important is reminding yuself how silly hard it is an not getting frustrated. What would be a small achievement in Solo Play is a big deal here...
Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/ARC
CHI is in the house! Finally posted that score mate! If only we got a Raiden IV board in London...
And nice progress Square King. You'll be up there soon mate - it took me long enough!
Don't tell anyone, but part of me can't wait for STGT09 to end - I'm itching to get back on Raiden IV...

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/ARC
Thank you for all the advice! In a small repayment of your efforts, here is my latest Double Play score for the Arcade Mode on the console port (Original/Original):
DTR - 8449910 - 1-3 - Raiden MkII & MkII Beta
It is a start, at least. I do believe the third boss is a brick wall.
If anyone wants me to prop up their friends lists leaderboards with some poor scores on this (or Deathsmiles), feel free to add me: Dr Fugue.

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/ARC
Very nice Doctor Fugue! A really solid start to DP. This weekend I'll get a arcade mode Double Play score going as well, so the board is less lonely.
And in return for your efforts, this time I'll actually include a link to some decent Double Play superplays for Raiden IV. That player has all the levels uploaded I think. His style is very different to mine, but it gives you some inspiration!
Updated!
EDIT: Updated again. Acid King - you slipped in just as I posted! Good work.

Thanks for the link to the videos! I'm afraid my scores are going backwards at the moment, though I occasionally feel more confident.
Sorry I didn't make my Gamertag clearer in my last post, it is "Dr Fugue" -- or perhaps nobody wants my low scores on their Friends Lists.

Re: Raiden IV - Xbox 360/ARC
Nice work Square King.
And Doctor Fugue - one bit of advice for Double Play is switch to one ship having blue laser for every boss except level 1. And learn the boss 'solutions'. There's some Double Play specific techniques for really quick, fairly safe, hi-scoring boss kills. If I can learn how to upload my videos, I'll show you.
And I never ever use purple laser
And from me - this:
Arcade mode Double Play
spadgy - 19,549,020 - 4-1
