Ed Oscuro - (no area?) - 269,890 Genesis

Normal settings, i.e. autofire is ON.

Add it if you like. It doesn't really belong in the other list because autofire makes the game too easy.

Should the Truxton and Tatsujin Genesis/MD versions have a separate score listing since the difficulty is a bit harder for the Tatsujin version (though still not as hard as the arcade)? Truxton/Tatsujin is one of those carts with multiple versions on the same cart, so the EN switch setting is required for Truxton and the JP setting is required for Tatsujin.

Haven't seen the differences between Tatsujin/Truxton on Genesis, but the arcade and PC-Engine vers. should definitely have their own tables...

Second call on the Tatsujin board then?

Yup, I played it on Mame once and the movement sucked badly. This is one game that has to be played on the board.

Yes, the same seems to apply also in viper phase #1

I wasn't going to post until I break myself in #3, but on the other hand, this was just too good to pass up..

Have you played it recently?! Movement seems fine to me...except for the fact that I'm using a far-from-optimal control setup.

No autofire really kills me in this game, heh.

I have played it recently, but I think the main reason is simply that you need a joystick on a big @ss arcade cabinet to get proper feeling 8)

for autofire..well you can use joystick with autofire or mameb.. but yes, truxton is one of those games where you just need to able to doubletap fire button when needed.. other one is blazing star

I did my last score using an old pc gamepad with autofire button. Slightly unresponsive D-Pad, but the autofire makes up for it... :D
Ed Oscuro I recommend you use autofire too

Oh well and I must come back to this game after I defeat Mustapha's game AKA Cadillacs & Dinosaurs :x

One emulation I played was very jerky, another was better but this game needs to be played at max ship speed, which means that you need a perfect setup (if you're going to go beyond 1 loop).

Yikes, I just played w/o autofire for a bit:

Ed Oscuro - area 47 - 183,030 no autofire
(NOTE: from savestate so it doesn't count!)

Had to go with a keyboard since my 360 controller doesn't let me mash a button for fire quickly enough...setup was left ctrl + arrow keys.

As noted, it's a savestate play. I could've done much better as I died for the last time at the spot where the exploding blue canisters first show up, which is a section I haven't memorized off the arcade version.

I tried again, but when I got to the spot where the two large green/yellow ships show up (with their double four-shot spreads), I got wasted...loaded again there, and within a few attempts I just can't press the fire button any more.

Will have to remember how to deal with them and try again later after I've recovered...

All right, I thought I beat yojo so I took snapshot, but I hadn't - getting closer though.

Funny how game feels like a breeze once you've powered up, until the last terrain which seems to be designed to brutally kill you off.

Someone needs to update this scoreboard soon..

MJR - Area 179 - 1'313'960 [PCB]

Well, I'll post the snapshot anyway, so you can marvel at my reflection..

Well, tonight was my first time trying out Truxton. Great game.

Died pretty quickly the first few goes, and then took a look in this thread where I saw the advice to max speed. The game after that was amazing, I'm lasting much, much longer than I ever anticipated, approaching 1,000,000 points, and then I get sniped from the side, get irritated, and then realize I'm still alive...Soon after I realize I'm completely invulnerable. Did the game glitch or what? I was so stoked that I was doing so well on my first night. What a drag.

Playing on MAME, has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds like a glitch to me; I've never seen that happen with my PCB

Andi - area ??? - 393,850 - Genesis

The Genesis version (like the console ports of other Toaplan shooters) doesn't display the area number properly. It just breaks it down into stages. I got to stage 3.

Try out the PCE version if you have a chance; it's closer to arcade difficulty.
