I've been thinking about finally getting the ALL in this game. I had been very close 4 years ago and sadly haven't ever played it seriously since. Hope I can finally give the game the last bit of dedication it deserves.

By now it almost feels like starting to learn everything all over again. After some extremely rough Arcade mode credits, I switched to Score Attack to remember my tactics better. I somehow stuck with stage 3 and tried to beat Rob's record after all which I eventually did. I needed the whole evening to get this tiny improvement though. (Yes, 120 quadrillions is tiny. :P )

Score Attack Stage 3
4,080,843,549,849,069,870 - Battletoad - Chery (RF)

Also here are some older scores that I somehow forgot to post:

Score Attack Stage 6
836,570,502,472,435,810 - Battletoad - Chery (RF)

Score Attack Stage 7
9,093,708,365,073,544,900 - Battletoad - Kart (RF)

Always brightens my day to see this thread awakened. And a new record.

The curse of games with (semi-)elaborate scoring systems.

Indeed.
Another new personal high score:

Score Attack Stage 6
2,192,179,048,990,720,570 - Battletoad - Chery (RL)

And I'm back to 12 quadrillion in Arcade while reaching stage 5, with a seldom near-perfect stage 1 (Cloud Sea) though. Hope I can get more consistent there.

Arcade Mode
22,135,488,177,208,550 - Battletoad - Chery (RF) - Stage 6

Looks like I got back into the flow. Improved the scoring a bit and got to stage 6 and 7 a few times.

Main points that need to be improved (or to become more consistent):
- volcanon collecting (finding the best point under the volcanon source)
- City boss milking
- milking and surviving in stage 4 (still a mess as of now) including its boss (bastard)
- destroying one of the side turrets in stage 5 somehow

Some more Score Attacks... been practicing the hell out of some of them. Really fun stuff. Still don't get stage 1 somehow, I must be missing something besides sucking at this stage anyway. Also often when I have the impression I played well there, the final score is like a total letdown. Stage 2 on the other hand...

Score Attack Stage 1
3,104,760,650,550,283,880 - Battletoad - Chery (RF)
Score Attack Stage 2
5,838,670,503,906,316,750 - Battletoad - Chery (RF)

Wanna play a some GW2, Rob? :)

I do. Unfortunately, don't have it anymore. Never going to happen, but wish this and MM would get an Xbox Live re-release.

Ah too bad. :(

On the bright side, this is what I've got today:

Arcade Mode
38,690,556,072,124,430 - Battletoad - Chery (RF) - ALL

A lot faster than I had expected, especially the scorejump. Hooray for exponential scoring systems.

Some notes on the run:
- multiplier around 375 million after stage 1, 500 million after stage 3, don't know if I maxed out in the end
- itchy bomb finger once I noticed I was doing pretty well... especially because I died shitty deaths in the previous runs (with full bombstock)
- destroyed one of the stage 5 bits, but missed to trash the main core :/
- no miss up to stage 6
- stage 6 boss 2nd phase: didn't really care about volcanons there, probably never will
- got to stage 7 with 1 extra life and no bombs, after the first part 0 lives and 1 bomb (which I used at the last part)

With this score I will have to go for 40 quadrillion points it seems. Too close to stop just yet. And hopefully next time without all this nervousness and bomb spamming.

I give up, anyone have an 80+ superplay?
Sorry for raising this from its grave, but here is a really interesting replay I've just found (even if not 80+), with lots of inspiring strategies:

Romi Allclear with 72 quadrillion points
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm9835525

  • multiplier was 900 million after stage 2, maxed out halfway through stage 3
  • stage 4 boss and stage 6 boss (2nd part) could have been milked for way more volcanons, partly not executed too well, but maybe the time bonus is worth more by then (because the time bonus is multiplied * stage number)? Couldn't really tell from the numbers as the video quality sucks during volcanons.
  • two suicides in stage 5, to get enough firepower and bombs to destroy both bits + the main part
  • interesting bombing strategies on stage 1 and 4 bosses, I'd guess in order to get the right timing easier for killing the stage 1 walker (only gives points when destroyed while the dome is closed*) and to destroy more parts on stage 4 boss
* So much for lots of my horrible stage 1 scores where I supposedly played way better than my score looked, should have read that FAQ by DLo better.

Arcade Mode
50,713,240,923,878,570 - Battletoad - Chery (RF) - ALL

Yay finally my second 1CC! :D
Every credit today got ruined by exactly one stupid death in stage 4 (sometimes stage, sometimes boss) before I eventually no missed this run up to stage 6. At least I got lucky that my best scoring run so far ended in this All Clear.

Despite such a score this run felt pretty sloppy in the later stages. Stage 1 and 3 were my best so far and the main reason for the good scoring, in stage 4 I missed many volcanons though (which I learned to execute quite often). Boss part 2 of stage 6 was still an uncontrolled mess. Didn't even manage to destroy him either and lost two lives... almost cost me the 1CC. :/
I also maxed out the multiplier for the first time (by the end of stage 7).

That's probably it for now, I'll just try some more credits till the end of the week.

Thanks, Edward! :)
Here's another one:

Arcade Mode
56,546,023,931,663,340 - Battletoad - Chery (RF) - ALL

Now definitely my final score. :D
And the run is recorded, well mostly. Got most of the critical volcanons, I only missed some in stage 2 and 6 out of those that I get every now and then. Oh and also the last pre-boss volcanon in stage 1.

Pretty good credit overall from what I remember, extremely happy about it now. Some brainfarts included one horrible reflect (way too early) in stage 5 and the most unnecessary death imaginable in stage 6. I still tend to underestimate the main core's health in the first phase. After that it was a nervous bombfest again since I noticed I was doing so well. However Stage 7 was nice this time, good thing the barrier was just charging as I was about to get hit several times.

Here's the video, crap quality inc. And sadly the camera batteries died midway through stage 7, so part 2 and 3 of the last boss are missing. :/
As usual those were no problem though (only used one bomb for the final form).

And another improvement...

IDK if that is a bump.
At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.

Farewell.

This is my first clear of a Takumi game! I basically bomb-routed most of the game, and finished with 0 lives and 0 bombs. I haven't really watched any scoring runs yet. I'd like to get my score higher but I'm having a really hard time seeing the red bullets in the last 2 levels - that'll limit my runs if I can't figure out a way to deal with that.

Slight improvement. I learned a few new volcanons compared to my previous run. I also spent a little bit of time practicing how to kill one of the high-value pods on stage 5 but I didn't get it this run. I'm still far from maxing out the multiplier though so I should probably focus on that first anyways (I ended the run with 452,129,704).

This run was pretty silly. I timed out the stage 5, 6, and 7 bosses which lost me who knows how many points. Most of my score gain came from a more optimized stage 1. It seems like this game is really different from most other games in that the pace of the run is heavily determined by stage 1 since you get so many volcanon opportunities and can get the multiplier really high from the start. I've been able to match Battletoad's stage 1 a couple times but if I can get my multiplier as high as in this run then I can get a huge score increase even before optimizing any of the other stages.

I timed out the stage 5 boss again, although I did get one of the pods. I might've broken 40 quadrillion had I not timed it out - I need to figure out a more consistent strategy for that boss. My route allows for killing one pod and the boss but they both die on the last cycle so I often either don't kill the boss in time or I kill the boss first before killing the pod (which is actually worse than timing the boss out since the pods are worth more). I'm not sure if it's possible to kill both pods with Chery since her shot damage is so low - even with liberal bomb usage I haven't found a route that works.

Other than that I had a pretty good stage 1: I came out with a x370,000,000ish multiplier, and finished the game with about x800,000,000. I still need to practice the better routes for stage 1, since right now a better stage 1 will still provide a higher score potential over practicing any of the other stages. I also need to take a closer look at the stage 1 boss as I actually came into the boss with a higher multiplier than Battletoad (about x108,000,000) but I still ended the stage with less, so I'm dropping medals somewhere.

EDIT:
Also, since Rob doesn't post here anymore does anyone mind if I take this thread over? I'm not sure what the process is to close this thread and make a new one.

^I don't represent the administration of the forum, but what I did (when taking over the the Mars Matrix thread) was make a new thread, PM Rob to tell him to link to it in the OP of this thread, then PM spadgy to tell him to update the index. Rob got back to me and did that, but I didn't ever actually hear from spadgy, nor did the index ever get updated *shrug*
