I have a question for all those playing this game...

Why does the medal counter seem to reset at times for no apparent reason? When I've had that big spaceship going underneath me for stage 3, I noticed that when I started grabbing the medals off of it, the points counter was back at 100... but I never died. Is there something that causes the medal counter to reset? I ask because on my last game, the stage layout was different (the big ship was stage 4), and nothing reset.

In short... WTF?
