WHat the fuck with this special bonus. Is it triggered by not shooting at all or just getting only 10x in a stage or what? How the hell do you even get through a stage without shooting or dying its impossible.

Macaw - Cyber City Team - P1 Side - Stage 5 - 1,877,040

No missed up to stage 5 then died stupidly. Your score goes nowhere once you lose your medal chain, and I didnt live long enough after the death to rebuild it.

Interestingly I also managed to trigger a 50k secret ship in stage 4, something I have never done before.

The only way i've gotten it is by not shooting and not dying. It is doable in the first 2 stages. After that i can't even come close. Mikwuyma got it just randomly. So i'm waiting for someone else to figure it out on my team and spill the beans.

Here we go:

Open Omega Fighter Special, press tab and go under dip switches. Switch service mode to "ON". Press F3. The game should reset and go to a test menu. Go all the way down to "Special" and select it. You can go back into the dip switches and set service mode back to "OFF" but I don't think it's necessary.

After this, all you have to do is make sure that you die before the level is over and not shoot after you die (in the level). Easiest way to do this is to make sure that you suicide and by doing so, you destroy the boss. As long as you don't shoot, you will get the 1M bonus. Just do this every level, and you'll get that bonus.

Thanks to Zakk for pointing out the test menu thing, apparently you should still select it even if the title screen says "Special" under it. : )

The first post of the thread says "-Difficulty: Special (ensure "Special" is under the title logo. Access this by going to Test Mode via F2. Select it in the menu.)" so I'd say yes. No one will beat DEL's score otherwise. Believe me, Twiddle and I tested it extensively. (Thanks to mikwuyma too, and some other people in shmups irc).

Pressing the bomb button doesn't count as a shot, so if you die and didn't completely destroy the boss and still have an red one, you can use that to clear the rest of the screen. You'll still get the bonus.

Just a quick run to test out this discovery. It also looks like the power up bar doesn't need 10x bonuses to fill up when you select special mode. That certainly makes extra lives easier to get. And I'm sure we'll all need them...

Oh, it looks like you should keep service mode on in order to always select Special mode. Even though it may say Special under the logo, you don't know you're in special mode until you fire at something and the power up bar raises regardless of multiplier. At least, that's how it's working out for me.

Sikraiken: I can't believe I forgot to mention that. I picked special in the menu, but I thought it didn't do anything. I'm a moron

Also, you seem to get 1-ups in the middle of the first stage (could work in others too) if you bomb a bunch of enemies at once using the red bomb (I always made sure I was above them for the x10 bonus).

Now I want to kill everyone who thought picking this game was a good idea.
