Damn, after downloading it and playing it a couple of times through the (easy) first stage, I wasn't prepared to die three times in rapid succession through the second one. I'll be working to improve on this one.

Overdrive, 57,710 Stage 2, MAME

I'm almost embarrassed to display this score, but it's my first try at doing more than the first stage, so I just consider it a start.....to improve on dramatically....

wait till you get to the 3rd boss.

:x stupid game!

you never die because it was your fault. it's because something off screen rammed into you, or something point blanked you. STUPID GAME!! :x

Tomtom - 168,050 - Stage 3 - MAME

I really like this game so far. Some of the best Zuntata tracks I've heard. That third boss is weird, though. I got rid of the ball thing and thought I had him, but alas, I was wrong.

A slightly better improvement — one that I can actually build on, rather than one that's just a smidge better than that last.

Overdrive, 102,140, Level 2, MAME

Kinda frustrating. I was fairly perfect up until the fish-chain miniboss in L2. I died once, wound up not killing it (I never like to use my super gun attack on it, since I can kill it without it if I'm careful). Then I kinda went to "screw-up" mode and lost the rest of my lives pretty quickly, as in game over shortly after the whip-tail fish mini-boss.....

Not much of an improvement, but I might aswell post it while I'm asking about extends. Are there more than one and if so, when are they given?

^^On MAME, the extends are set at 70k and every 150k after, but you can fiddle with it on the dip settings option. There's a soft crackling sound (a bit like noise on the radio) when you get it.

Now why would I fiddle with them except for if the saturn defaults were different? Are you playing with 70, 220, 370 etc? Is that what the saturn version is set to?

I'm playing with 70k,220k etc, which are defaults on the PCB (extrapolating from the ROM). I suppose the Saturn defaults are the same (the suggestion about monkeying around with the hi-score settings was me being air-headed).

Whoops! That score I posted is from level 6, not an AC. I just realized that today while I was playing Metal Black.

I seem to have purged the MB save with my AC on it...
Lemme see if I can find the old picture I took of the score...

You know, I think I'll pop this in my Saturn this weekend. I didn't do so hot in the "bonus" rounds in my 1CC...

Second bonus round?

Man, that shit is 100% luck. You just have to hope one starts off in your target area. And if you DO score well, you have to hope you can then 1CC the game. I wish I had 1CC'd a few more times after the first time. But no... moved on to Hyper Duel... *sigh*

Ghegs - 184,930 - Stage 3 - PS2

Such a weird yet cool game. I don't know if I have the patience to keep at it. Even though I got that far (well, not THAT far...) on a credit, it's nervewrecking.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

MOSQUITO FIGHTER - 175,180 - Stage 3 - PS2

I've found myself playing this just to hear the stage 3 and stage 4 boss music. Interisting visuals too. Whats the deal with that weird imagery in the background on the last boss. Does this shooter have some kind of message. I don't get it.

What a wonderful game. I hated this game until 4 days ago, but its really much better than it gets credit for. There should be more games that are so hard they don't need a scoring system, and the scoring system is just "stay alive and kill stuff".

Sorry for the shit picture, I'll try to fix it. Photobucket's being weird.

Damned thing gypped me on the second bonus round. It kept the target I was supposed to hit off screen for half the clock.

Yeah that happens sometimes. The bonus stages are kinda crap. But no matter what happens, you should end up with the same number of extends by the end, so at least for survival purposes the bonus doesn't matter much.

I say the 2nd level end design is pretty rubbish. Otherwise though this game has great tunes and lovely visuals.
