themachinist wrote:Nice one spadg. I'm actually getting back into this after a loong hiatus. But, after having played a lot of other stuff with bigger and more visible bullets (like cave stuff) and faster player-ships RIII is a little difficult to play  , with the small bullets sort of blending in with the other yellow explosions and the slug's pace of a ship. Oh well. I did get a hrap during that time. I've been usin that so after a while getting accustomed to it maybe I'll be getting some better Solo results. I really want that solo 1cc!
Thanks!

RIII reminds me a little of Kyukoyu Tiger II Plus in terms of the way its difficult - it doesn't look like it should be that tricky, but you're right, those small bullets and yellow explosions and the speed make it damn hard to jump to from other shooters.

So for Double Play - do you use a PS2 pad or two sticks? I'm using one Hori Fighting Stick 3 and one modded Virtua Stick High Grade, and the subtle difference in stick sensitivity and height (and the fact the HFS3 moves about!) makes things damn tricky. I want another VSHG, but it seems a little lavish to get a third stick for one game....

Yeah, I only have one stick so I do Double Mode with the dualshock pad. I don't know if I'd even be able to do the two sticks thing... haha.

So I credit fed to beat the game to unlock stage 6, 7 in score attack (my practice mode) and Boss Rush. Yay...

After watching the Demo plays, I wondered why the guy suicided in stage 5 and 7. I THINK it's so that he can get more bombs.

I still havent credit fed my way through. I guess i should do this to unlock everything. *shrug* You guys are right about the bullets...small yellow bullets with yellow explosions...ugh. The game would be a bit easier if you could actually see the damn things all the time.

Re. yellow bullets and yellow explosions: When they enter the blast radius of an explosion, they pulsate with a black border/ outline; just need to pay attention to that when you track them... Granted, they could've made them purple; and made them look like floating helium balloons, but this isn't Mushihime-sama! ;P

Ugh. I almost beat boss rush mode. I can 1-life every boss (most of them consistently) but to make every instance line up into one run...
I gotta say 3rd boss is the most annoying.

So - to open Boss Rush, you can just credit feed the Solo game?

Also, Double Players - can anybody reach 1,760,000 on level one? I hit 1.755 mill every time, and it's so painfull not to up the score anymore. Maybe there's yellow orbs I'm missing on...

Boss Rush Mode
4966710 ALL

Man I feel so good right now, finally beat Boss Rush Mode. It was strange. I had a nice dinner then some coffee then loaded up R3 and beat it on my first try today. I almost no missed it too, died .1 second before the last boss did. I might try again for a no miss later on.

Next up, 1CCing the regular game... lol.

woohoo just 1cc'ed solo.

I 1-lifed to stage 6 and then sort of bomb spammed and died a few times on stage 7. I'm guessing my score would've been higher without the bomb spamming... oh well. :)

Nice one on the 1CC (I'm sure I wrote that the day you posted it too, but what happened to that I don't know.)

Anyway...

Finally! Upped my hi-score on Double play, by half-a-million too. First week I've managed to put some solid time since my last bout...

EDIT:
Actually, though I know there's not a board here for Score Attack, as covering each level could get silly, I thought I'd show off as I just did my best yet on...

How's is everybody else doing by the very end of Level 1, Solo or Double Play?

(Actually, as level one is the main Score Attack stage, maybe there could be just tables for Solo and DP Score Attack for level one? Perhaps not...)

Broken my DP hi-score again! I died with two bombs in stock which was frustrating, but...

I just need to calm down for the level four midboss.

On solo stage 1 I get around 1,605,xxx.
I think I'll leave the individual stage score attacks off for now because they're would only be like 1-3 people on each list at the moment  .

Beat the stage 4 boss finally. Making a little progress...slowly buy surely.

I also just learn about the red car in stage 1 so my stage 1 score went up 10,000 i guess.

Of course! Really I was just interested to see what people were getting.. Clearly double play let's you get a little more too.

I just got the Raiden III The Flash Desire superplay DVD... one moment...

The Double Player run, which, as far as I know, is still the world record for the total run, gets 1,809,790 by the end of stage 1 (Final score: 21,060,980).

The Solo run, which I'm not sure of WR status but is damn amazing, gets 1,647,300 by the end of stage 1 (Final Score: 18,852,600).

So, by first stage scoring standards we're doing OK!

Right - recently I'd been playing Double Play with two Virtua Stick High Grades, but one had a loose, long-throw Sanwa stick, and the other a sweet tight little Seimitsu stick. I wasn't sure if it would effect things, but today my second Seimitsu stick arrived and I modded the Virtua Sticks so they have identical sticks inside.

And this happened on my first credit!

Finally beat that level four mid-boss!

Nice one. How do you manage to hit/hold the shot/bomb buttons when you're already busy using the joystick?

Well, I set the closest button to the stick to shot, and then everything else to bomb (six-button layout on a VSHG so plenty of room for error).

I must admit though, after twenty minutes my left hand cramps like crazy, so sometimes I stuff a small piece of card down the side of the shot button to hold it in place, permanently down. I think it was Dave K who found card stuffed into a Raiden DX cab's buttons in Japan, which gave me the inspiration. However, doing that with table top sticks does mean they can occasionally move about as you aren't pushing them down, so I only do it on the left when I really have to.

I figure it's only the same as allowing autofire in certain shooters - it's about making it less painful rather than any easier (excluding 'super-auto' fire in games like Darius Gaiden, which obviously helps a great deal).
