1,197,860 - DJ Incompetent - Stage 5 - Type C (1P) - PS2

The game's only difficult because the soundtrack still puts me in a Vulgus-Coma™

Ayanami, this is still your fault. :x

I have a better score that I was too lazy to post earlier lol.

1,327,340 - shoe-sama - Stage 5 - Type C (2P) - MAME

First bomb use on stage 5, followed a chain of lame deaths on the boss.

Also had a higher scoring run than this, but didn't get the exact score down.

I finally got the 1cc in this damn game!!!! Huzzah!!!

And it is one hell of a score with a different ship.

1,680,320 - Ayanami - ALL - Type B (1P) - SAT

I have two pics. One is at the score board screen, but you can barely see it with my crappy camera phone. So I took a second picture at character select to confirm.

Scores updated!
javel wrote:Great score Ayanami! Where do you milk for that extra 200k?
I actually did not do too much milking.

Picking up the bonus bomb in the first stage helps a lot. That, and I believe you get a good chunk of points from the 1up Icon, or from defeating the mini boss that drops it. (Massive Pink ship that shoots out the lasers before you break it off in stage 5.)

I only know of score boosting tricks in Stages 1, 2, 3 (kinda sorta) and 5. Stage 4 has me guessing on any hidden score tricks.

And here they are! I will try to get pics, or better yet videos later. But for now hope this helps.

Stage 1

When the stage boss first shows up, do NOT shoot at his arms and just focus on the face. If done correctly and the asteroids were destroyed properly for good pointage, you should have over 30,000 points when he jets off. This will trigger another power up carrier that will drop a bomb instead of a power up. Bombs of course give you an extra 8,000 at the end of a stage.

Stage 2

Pretty sure every body knows this one. The giant raiden esk mini boss that tramples the houses, let him trample all 5 houses for medals, and then destroy him ASAP after the last house is destroyed. This triggers a locomotive that travels the railroad just above it for some decent points. That and the 5 medals you get which are worth many points.

Stage 3

Right after the mini boss, little sniper tanks start showing up. If you can destroy all of these and the 2 sniper tanks that are hidden under the roofs on both sides of the screen before the power up carriers arrive, one will drop an extra power up (which is worth an extra 1,000 points,) as opposed to two side arm power ups. I believe you need to destroy the carrier on the left first in order to trigger this.

Stage 4

I got nothing. If some one figures something out. Do tell.

Stage 5

Lots of points to be had here. One good one is the mini boss. The mini boss is the big pink fucker that spits out lasers. He is not too hard though. But he can get ya if you fall asleep at the wheel. Any who, after you kill the sides he starts running around the screen. If you can land enough damage on him while he does this and then bomb him to finnish him off, you will be rewarded with a nice chunk of points and the elusive 1up icon. I don't know if you can kill him with out a bomb, I had to to kill him though.

This score can be improved. I bombed on the Stage 2 boss, big mistake and cost me an extra 8,000 every stage there after. I also did not trigger the extra power up in stage 3. Also there is milking to be done on the stage 4 boss, that and I know there is some sort of scoring trick that I am not finding.

As far as ship selection goes. Go with what ever ya like! :D They are all pretty good. But it is my firm belief that side arm Napalm is an absolute must. It is by far the most powerful of the side arms and can really tear into bosses if point blanked. It also helps with crowd control especially with types A and B.

That is all folks. :D

Also, for the stage 1 midboss thing, you have to line yourself up perfectly centered to destroy the two halves of the face at the same time. They seem to act as shielding of some sort for the main body. I've gotten it to run away before it shot its second set of lasers once with 2P Type C, which activated a 3rd powerup carrier that dropped an insignificant 800 point bonus item.

Hm, so you found the other icon. What a lame cash-in for a detailed secret.

@Ayanami
Thanks for tips. You wanna record a dual-play next time I'm over?

Your Saturn ver have a BGM slider? We gotta change the soundtrack if we record. Mandatory.

I am unfamiliar with a BGM slider. Probably not.

But I am down for recording plays. :)

I've been wondering about that bomb and the stage 5 extra life in particular. Most helpful, thanks!

So what does "Gekirindan" translate to in Japanese? Because I perosnally am convinced it's "Don't die, Bitch."

Gekirindan literally translates as "Reverse Scale Bullet."

What I learned:

Extra ships are worth NOTHING at the end. This run was a 1LC. That means that if you suicide right before you pick up an extra bomb you might be able to get more points...on stages where there aren't many medals to pick up.

The ships on the 2P side are about twice as strong.

If you destroy all the asteroids in the first stage, you can also get a 1,000 point icon to drop from an item carrier right before the bonus bomb is dropped.

You can milk the Stage 3 boss for all he's worth...though I did not since I absolutely despise this game.

You can also milk the missiles the Stage 4 boss spits out.

I agree with Damocles about the final boss. A fucking trivial joke.

This is a splendid shmup! I want to get the 1cc on this one! *drops all other priorities*

697,160 - Momijitsuki - Stage 4 - Type B (1P) - MAME

I would have gotten farther, but that was my first time getting to the stage 3 boss, and I died, and lost all of my powerups and stuff. Lame.

EDIT: bsidwell is on the scoreboard twice. Might wanna fix that.

Pretty easy game. Type C is the way to go, as the other ships are way too weak.
