1,840,600 - Ruldra - Stage 10 - Fixed - MAME

How do you guys play with smart pods? Every once in a while they let a bullet slip in and I die. I don't think they're reliable enough.

5,030,000 - Ruldra - Stage 30 - Smart - MAME

I can't believe I managed to get this far and ultimately fail. The last boss was going to die in a matter of seconds :x

Anyway, from now on I'm recording my runs, and going to play a few stages without pods to boost my score. I'm not giving up :!:

6,448,400 - Ruldra - ALL - Smart - MAME

One stupid death on stage 6, then no-missed all the way to stage 25. Lost a life there, a couple more on the following stages, and one more on the last boss. Barely made it, but finally nailed the 1cc.

Inp file + emulator here.

Now for my next project: No pods ALL.

Are you doing region checks? Supposedly, the Japan version uses checkpoints.

How about a no rapid fire run? Rapid fire makes takes away a good amount of the difficulty. It doesn't make it easy but it significantly ramps up the difficulty because you can't dispatch all the enemies on the screen and are forced to dodge more. And the bosses? They start to suck =)

Yeah I know what you mean, rapid fire at the fastest rate deals damage so quick it's almost cheating.

Disabling rapid fire would kill my wrist, as you still need to keep pushing the button to keep firing, but I could reduce the firerate to match the one in the game. That would make things fair.

Also, you won't get the second extend when you should if you trigger the 270/290k bug.

I think I might try xpadder's autowiggle in this game sometime.

Hehe, autofire can kill the first boss before it can even shoot. It would be fun to see what you could do with autowiggle.

Also, Ruldra, if you want another cool scoring tip, try destroying every target (enemies, scenery, radars) and collecting every secret item. You get 100k for doing this in a non-boss stage.

The radars will be the most annoying part.

Really? I didn't know about this bonus. I know you get a 100k bonus if you kill all the missile-shooting enemies at the end of stage 9, but I never got it anywhere else.

That would explain how scoring over 10 millions is possible.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

I think I'm wrong on that one yet again. Stage 9 is also the only place I got it, and bombing and sweeping the fuck out of everything else hasn't worked. Considering how Varth uses checkpoints in the Japan revision (and in most cases has you start the stage over) there might be something funny going on there, like checkpoint milking in certain areas, earning more points than if you brought the extra lives all the way to the end. Considering there are areas where you can earn more than 100k in a single checkpoint, that may be where the missing points are coming from (8 million is the theoretical high for a podless clear, add ~500-800k for the lucky bastard who saves bombs for 20-30k a stage.)
