Mmmmm...

Lock - Extreme
8,806,610 - Icarus - 44 - [Saturn-style USB pad]

Will have a photo later tonight if I don't beat the score before then.

@piyo:
Haven't a clue how to get this thing into a windowed mode, as Terminal is a complete git to use. Keyboard shortcuts don't want to work either. Meh. -_-;;

Why would you want it windowed? I can't stand playing most games in windowed mode.

Much better scaling. If you play in windowed mode and maximize the window, the graphics are much sharper than if you play in fullscreen mode. At first I disliked having the window border and taskbar visible while playing, but you end up getting so focused on the game that you tune them out anyway.

His later games fixed this. It's a shame he didn't fix it one game earlier. ;)

Let's give Icarus a new scoring target, see how long it lasts...

Lock/Hard: shiftace - 14,529,940 - 88 - keyboard

First credit ever of Lock/Hard. But I bet my total playing history has over 500 credits of Roll/Extreme. Lock/Extreme felt less evil today than I remember. And one more score:

Roll/Hard: shiftace - 15,887,020 - 80 - keyboard

Just experimenting. Game doesn't like being stretched past its default aspect ratio, otherwise it could have been pseudo-tated by flipping the desktop to vertical and running the game in windowed mode.

Anyway, finally in triple figures for Normal stages.

Lock - Normal
15,739,410 - Icarus - 112 - [Saturn-style USB pad]

There's a replay for this score.

Got you? You still have a highscore in one of the modes. Working on improvement in Lock now, but it's really slow going. Frusteration sets in quickly with this game.

I'm not really attuned to fast shootemups. Games like this, Noiz2sa and Cave's Dangun Feveron are really tough to get used to because of the speed. Plus the randomising attacks means that you are either really lucky and get fairly easy to dodge patterns, or you get every enemy spewing bullets all over the screen. -_-;;

EDIT: New Lock - Extreme Mode score.

Lock - Extreme

From the Dept. of Shits & Giggles:
Roll/Practice - shiftace - 0 - 55 - keyboard

And from the Dept. of Great Justice:
Lock/Extreme - shiftace - 14 979 360 - 70 - keyboard

I got my ass kicked a half dozen times and had just about given up on breaking 10M at all today, and then persistence paid off. I remember now why I think lock mode is evil, it's the swarms of small ships spewing a solid wall of bullets while masked by a stack of medium ships that's busy crap-flooding the screen as well. But it feels so good to survive.

Took me long enough, but I finally got a score for worth posting.

Roll Hard
Pirate1019 - 4,309,110 - 33 - Logitech USB Controller

Haha, nice job shiftace. I'll have to try your "Shits and Giggles mode".

Updated the score board results.

Announcement for "Special Competition: No Shoot Mode"

The score board has a new addition. This was shiftace's idea, but I'm a little prudish about naming. :D

Good job all! As always, have fun and good luck!

@shiftace: :shock: :x :D
Looks like you got tired of looking at my name in lights, too.

This will probably be my first and last post in this table

Roll Practice
Pirate1019 - 0 - 18 - Logitech USB Controller

EDIT:
Lock Practice
7,407,380 - Pirate1019 - 76 - Logitech USB Controller

I have no shame. I love Practice mode. :P

Heh, I only played no-shoot (1) because I set a goal once of reaching parsec 50 that way and (2) to prop up the bottom of one of the tables. I think Pirate1019 has the right idea not to spend much time on it, it gets old fast.

piyo -- I posted a Roll/Hard score along with the Lock/Hard score, looks like you missed it. Perhaps unrelated, it sounds like you've written some cool table management automation.

Don't get me wrong, it's good for a laugh or some quick change of pace, but the game really isn't designed for it. I can't use the slow function properly and it's too random for it.

Lock/Normal - Javel - 14,984,900 - 121 - Logitech "Precision" USB Controller with left handle smashed to pieces.

At 8mil I was down to my last ship :P

25 min run = headache. I´ll try out the other modes...

Scores updated. :D

We have a newcomer javel with the hot score in Lock/Normal, excellent work. Pirate1019 just keeps ripping up Lock/Practice.

I corrected the mistake of not adding shiftace's Roll/Hard score. Recording the scores into my "table management software" is manual process, sorry.

I want to try that gradient coloring for the scores based on the mode (roll = cyan, lock = violet). Also, scores in the last 28 days have a date in highlighted yellow. Do you like?

Message from me: I tried playing Roll/Extreme today and I couldn't get to level 20! Nobody has anything to fear from me. :( Maybe I'll try No-Shoot mode just to mix it up.

As always, have fun and good luck!

Lock/Extreme: Javel - 9,801,740 - 74

Dont know how I pulled off that one. In the five latest games I haven´t been able to pass 5 mil.

Lock/Hard: Javel - 8,956,510 - 72

Lock/Practice: Javel - 10,763,220 - 107

Not a nice progression, I´m getting lower scores in the easier modes :(

You're getting plenty of business for your score thread this week, piyo. Seems like there's a mini-tournament going on in here at the moment. :P

Lock - Hard
13,853,540 - Icarus - 85 - [Saturn-style USB pad]

Lock - Extreme
11,583,910 - Icarus - 64 - [Saturn-style USB pad]

Photos to follow tonight, if I don't get a higher score beforehand.

Your move, shiftace.

...

Damnit! So close to an Extend, and triple figure stages. >_<#

Lock - Hard
15,995,680 - Icarus - 98 - [Saturn-style USB pad]

And a slightly improved Extreme score.

Lock - Extreme
11,775,760 - Icarus - 57 - [Saturn-style USB pad]

My thumb hurts. Holding down two buttons for 25+ minutes is quite painful.

Extends are every 500k right? I think the first one is at 250k and 500k for everyone after that.

How do you guys play? Once it gets too hectic do you just hold down the secondary fire button all the time or do you keep zipping around the screen trying to grab every green star?

1st Extend is at 200k
2nd Extend is at 500k
Then every 500k after that.

You know, I should be used to dying before an Extend from endless Raizing training, but it still hurts when you get popped just before on your last life. :P

As for techniques, I use quite a lot of little tricks and techniques in play - bullet leading, cutback moves, pointblanking and so on - but occasionally just blind flapping around the screen works just as well. Riding your luck is more fun in most cases. ^_- I always prioritise item collection within the early stages, then survival towards the higher stages (60+). On Hard and Extreme you can be making enough points to be getting an Extend every five stages at least.

EDIT:

Lock - Extreme
13,912,110 - Icarus - 74 - [Saturn-style USB pad]

Nothing is more stressful than crashing into a single bullet with an Extend in sight.
