Is it really necessary to name which character you use? Their abilities are identical...

And yes, I will try to submit a score eventually, I don't mean to waste too much unnecessary space, I just figured I'd ask.

There's not much of a difference, it's true. The only one I know of is that Cotton starts off with fire magic, and Appli with ice. Speed, power, and hit area is all the same with both characters. But since the game records which player you used next to each score, we might as well have it.

Arcade:
zinger - 1,963,600 - Cotton - 110 chain - 86 hit - Stage 3

I know, a pathetic attempt, but I haven't played this one a lot.
Very fun shooter though! Hopefully, somone in my league will join in and give some competition and motivation.
Nice score there Sam, by the way ;)

Nothing pathetic about being able to chain 110 enemies. Going from just blasting your way through the game to chaining seriously is probably the biggest step. After that, it's mostly a matter of not letting the bosses eat you alive. I'm just now getting to the point where the 4th boss won't take more than half my life meter away, and I've only made it to stage 6 twice, ever.

Keep playing, and have fun!

Yeah, the bosses are MEAN! Got my 110 chain on stage 1, actually. I'll try to beat my score later tonight...

EDIT: Where do you get you massive hit/chain bonuses btw?

You can get chains over 100 in every stage if you choose to avoid the mid-boss. I do this everywhere except stage two, where you can get a mega hit bonus by snaring the boss in a sphere and shooting him like crazy. An exceptionally great player would be able to get the mid-boss in the chain and rack up some very nice extra bonuses, but I won't be working toward that for a while yet. It invlovles letting go of your sphere, keeping it alive in the air, and weakening the boss until he's ready to chain.

Here's what I can get in every stage, assuming all goes very well:

1: 130
2. 90, followed by 60 after the mid-boss.
3. 110
4. 130
5. 190+ (if you're really good, you can use the boss to get an extra 50 or so)
6. ??? I've made it to 90, but then died.

BTW: to avoid the mid-boss, just let him do his thing for a while, and he'll go away.

This one's really grown on me lately. Might even displace Boomerang as my favorite installment, if I'm not careful.

Been working at incorporating the midbosses into chains, though so far I'm only able to chain the stage 1 midboss during actual runs. 2 & 3 I can occasionally pull off in training mode. 4 & 5 are out of the question for the time being. Also have come to learn that it's not worth it to kill Wool. It's ultimately not as satisfying, though you'll get substantially more points if you just chain her bats the entire stage.

I'll refrain from posting a new score until I crack 10 mil.

Thanks, Eddie! Not too shabby there, yourself.

You should definitely consider tackling Boomerang in the near future. I welcome any competition I can possibly get at that game.

EDIT: Wow, that was kinda fast.

Much appreciated!

Now that you mention it, I have had thoughts of doing superplays for both Cotton 2 & Boomerang. Once I'm certain that I can't take either game any further, I'll do it. I feel obligated to.

Image

Kino - Arcade - 17,439,900 - Appli - 249 - 94 - ALL

Pulled off a miracle and successfully chained the stage 5 midboss, which more than made up for all the little mistakes on this run.

Also, don't quote me on this, but there seems to be a scoring advantage with using Appli. I'm doing the same exact things in stage 1 & 2 that I do with Cotton, yet I get several more point bubbles during the secret bonus. Strange.

And now, for something completely different!

Image

Kino - Saturn Mode - 13,438,700 - Appli - 333 Chain - 229 Hit - ALL

Stages 4 through 6 were disastrous. I'll likely be revisiting this mode in the near future.
