Looking at them side-by-side, there's the rapid-fire explosion SFX and BGM skipping, with the BG transitions likewise firing off without interval. The starting black space (1) flashes negative (2), then instantly dissolves to red (3), heralding the dinosaur fossils - but before they can appear, the forest/wall (4) slams in from the right, and then it's over. The BGs still follow their intended sequence, unlike the characters; all this commotion causes the cavemen and soldiers to never show up, with Menme (normally last) hogging the spotlight, until the boss finally dies and we cut to the usual ending sequence.SavagePencil wrote:Wait, what's different about the timeout from the "official" death, besides the re-apperance of the cat? I just confirmed that when you kill the boss, you still get the amazing sequence of psychedelic effects (with the Earth splitting in half, which somehow I missed the first few times playing through...), but it rolls credits right after.
Basically, it's not one timeout, but several back-to-back.
The last BG reached is the rushing steel wall, preceded by forest (a very Gun Frontier st2-looking one)... so much stuff going on, when you really look and aren't dealing with masses of invasive tentacles, haha.
Given the sequence appears to be a condensed history of life on earth (dinosaurs -> cavemen -> modern man), you might say spacetime gets folded and condensed until all that remains is Cat.
