Sexy Parodius would be nice, or Zero Wing.
They aren't going to run out of possible options anytime soon anyway.

I'm not a huge Galaga fan, so not a super exciting release for me. I'll continue to sleep and wait for elevator action returns.

You're probably going to have to wait at least a year for that one, possibly more.

MiSTer Zero Wing seems perfect as far as I can tell, though.

M2 will certainly release Zero Wing at some point, since they are committed to all Toaplan games. And for this reason I don't think you will see it coming out from Hamster.

There's no reason Hamster couldn't release Zero Wing as long as they got the license from Yuge, but there'd be no point in releasing it anyway with M2's eventual release. There is that Snow Bros Special thing coming soon, though.

This is precisely what I needed. Thank you!

Has this been slated for the US eshop yet? Or do I need to switch regions?

Some interesting stuff in the in-game manual for Galpus. Some really esoteric powerups that only appear on certain stages, or if you do things in a specific order. And the game had built-in cheats if you entered specific names in the hi-score table.

Next is Namco's Yokai Dochuki. It's new to me but seems kind of like Wardner or Bonze Adventure.

Oh nice, I was hoping for that one ITT back when Genpei Toumaden came out. I always associate the two, and apparently so do others, with Kagekiyo and its odd little protagonist being paired in Namco X Capcom.

Image

He'd better pay attention before he gets a shoe in his nuts! There's a PCE port, but unlike Genpei's straight translation, I seem to recall it not being as close to the arcade. Welcome regardless.

FC Youkai Dochuki is one of those games that uses a special sound chip. Genpei got an FC version, but it's a different game, more RPG like.

Looks even more bent than Genpei  That curious CERO B rating for XTREEM violence, too!

Is Gaplus the earliest example of the SOOPA-WIDE FORMATION mechanic beloved of Toaplan (Slap Fight / Daisenpu), I wonder? Was just reacquainting myself, got the tractor beam for one buddy and said "Hm that's nice." Next credit, hoovered up a whole bunch of varmints and went HOREH SHIET at the six-wide armada I was now in control of. Until a few got shot off the sides, thats life innit!

Looks like off-brand, dime store Toaplan Taito (masterpiece?) FIGHTING HAWK is on the menu for next week.

I legitimately quite like Fighting Hawk, aside from the last "boss". It's unfortunately also rather extremely easy until then, so a bit of a snooze. Fundamentals are all nailed perfectly and even the stage design is quite good, but the lack of firepower of its enemies is its real downfall.

<S.Yagawa> I like the challenge of "doing the impossible" with older hardware, and pushing it as far as it can go.

Besides its amiably lightweight Toaplanesque, Fighting Hawk also contributed a snazzily aphoristic catchphrase (GOOD FIGHTING IS REQUIRED), so it's always been A-OK by me.

Bought Youkai Dochuki. It has an English version, though the title isn't translated.

Oh rad! Thanks bud, was kinda gritting my teeth in preparation for that one. I figured out Genpei pretty handily with Strategywiki's help, but that's really not so complicated a game to begin with.

Is Youkai Dochuki a rare example of an arcade game with no scoring? There in-game manual makes it sound like whatever stage you reached is treated as your "score" for the leaderboard.

Fighting Hawk is a go!

I've only put a little time in, but the game really has its simple charms. It's certainly a game I'll mess around with clearing. Though, I have to say, it really puts into perspective what an achievement Hishouzame was a year earlier, and why Taito would have turned to Toaplan to commission Daisenpuu.

A fantastic little garnish alongside the M2 Hishou Same! collection.

It's true, best possible timing for one of the earliest Hishouzame epigones. A good sideman knows how to make the star performers shine.

To be fair they did announce it for May 6th - Golden Week-related, I guess? All good in the hood either way. Image
