SAM's Shmup Challenge

That was 10+ years ago, I was on a business trip, and I went into an acrade while took a walk before dinner.

The acrade had a few cabinets installed with Psikyo games. I sew a guy sitting in front of a Strikers 1945 machine playing a few games. I didn't watch him play. But when he got up I sit down and took my turn. I found he had worked his way into the 2nd loop by reading the hi-scores board. I inserted a coin and start my game....... WTF :shock: I found out a cross gate was installed at the joystick!!! The gate allows 4-directions movement only, no diagonal movement!!

So this is the rules of the challenge:

- We are playing Strikers 1945 with a cross gate installed on the joystick, which resturcted movement to 4-directions only (UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT), no diagonal movement!!
- You can play on real PCB, MAME, Playstation, Saturn, Switch or PC. Just state the platform you are playing.
- Difficulty settings, default for PCB/MAME, Acrade for PlayStation/Saturn/Switch/PC.
- 3 lives, extend at 600,000.
- Don't trigger those endless UFO bugs.
- This challenge would open till the end of Aug 2020.

The challenge is to get pass the first loop using this settings!!

4-way button for shmups is just weird, unless you're playing fixed shooters.

This sounds horrible and reminds me of this awful cab I played that has a 4 way joystick in a cab that includes Xevious and Dragon Spirit.

That's dreadful. The retro gaming scene is plagued with ill conceived products like that marketed by people who don't know or care enough to find out what makes a quality product. By all means install a 4 way gate but make it external so the user can plonk it over the stick for the 4 way games.
