Shmup Slam II -- February 29th, 2020 (THIS SATURDAY!)

i noticed that somehow there wasn't a thread for this crazy shmup event coming up this Saturday, so i've decided to take the liberty to help shill this thing! if you haven't heard about it yet, The Electric Underground is running a big streamed event of community shmup runs this Saturday, Shmup Slam II!

this is looking STACKED, featuring over twelve hours of shmup action from both new and old members of the shooting game community.

there's all sorts of games, skill levels, and runs being featured here (including yours truly) and it's shaping up to be a really fun time! we're trying to take advantage of the new momentum of the genre from Gus's AGDQ run (by the way, he'll be playing at this event too :O ), so come hype up your shmup homies and check out some games!

The first shmup slam was released as VODs on Mark's channel, and since everything will be streamed from there I think that's a safe bet. I wish I could watch everything myself, but I'll have to be selective about time after my own run.

Also a shame there's <300 viewers, I know Shmups are quite niche and I'm not really sure where if anywhere would be an effective place to advertise this

Hovering around 300 viewers for an event dedicated to the genre (so, not a token showing at GDQ or ESA) is more than I expected to see. Feels like a good number, I didn't think the stream would break 50 viewers.

The first Shmup Slam was ~50 viewers, which I thought at the time was quite big. This was a great show.

As a casually playing shmups person, I'd like to put out a special thank you to Mark_MSX for all his efforts on making this amazing genre so accessible and approachable to the rest of us!

This event was yet another example of how to contribute to a community in a unbelievable positive and open way. I actually saw most of the amazing players playing today for the very first time, and it surely blew my mind..
