Twin Ruin - Ikaruga inspired shooter

Post by alcolepone »

Hi my name is Alex and i'm a solo dev working on "Twin Ruin".

inspired by ikaruga, it has a polarity system making it possible to turn bullet hell, into bullet heaven :D?

please take a look on steam
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1094400/Twin_Ruin/

and wish list if you are interested.

I might be on the lookout for some beta testers in the future if anyone is interested?

I think this looks rather more like Nex Machina or Total Carnage than "Ikaruga meets Geometry Wars."

Given that people on these boards are fairly savvy, can you explain how your game stands out from two games we have all played for hours on end? What are you bringing *in addition to* Ikaruga meets Geometry Wars? What is the soul of THIS game, rather than other games?

Yeah, I'm getting more of an "Ikaruga mechanics + Nex Machina style" vibe. The art's really great from the looks of it, looks like a promising game. People who are into Ikaruga's polarity swapping to dodge mechanic should get a kick out of this.

Looks good for sure, and a lot like Nex Machina obviously. Though I have to ask if the dash is here ? Dash (w/ some invincibility frames) allows to crank difficulty quite a bit and makes the game way more interesting.

yeah Nex machina is another inspiration, though Twin Ruin doesn't had a dodge currently. With the polarity system it makes it possible to have a screen full of bullets but always have a "out" option, i.e. be the current polarity and the bullets become a benefit.

The player spawns randomly in the map, and can "explore" to find power ups and harvest weapon upgrades. over time a "storm" forces the player to the end of level boss position , (similar to battle royales storms).

The game looks decent so far. The polarity mechanic doubled with Nex-styled twin-stick shooting looks fun.

Cheers Austin, so far i enjoy playing the game as much as making it, which i hope indicates it might turn out well :D I find i end up getting into that "zone" like feeling when playing, where switching polarity becomes second nature and I play almost without thinking....

Looks impressive, especially for being developed by one person.
Great inspirations, too... my two favorite games.

Seeing this thread reminded me that a good real life friend of mine made an Ikaruga clone for GBA way back in like 2003. Here's a pic of it.

Its a solo project done in my spare time, so no big budget announcement unfortunately.

If any has played it, it would really help if you could add a review on steam. Hopefully a positive one :D

I was just on the Steam page (I too, had no idea it came out of pre-release). And was greeted with "NOW BROADCASTING: WATCH THE DEVELOPER PLAY"

In the stream window was a (unmoving) debug console, with the developer (presumably) asleep...

The exciting world of game development :D

HAHAH, yeah i often don't know its broadcasting, game development isn't the most exciting thing to watch :D

but it does show the game is still getting additional features and fixes.
