Best SHMUPs on Steam?

Post by Oddysee »

With the current sale on, I feel like picking some up. So I would like to know which are the best ones to go for? The few I'm already aware of are:

- Sky Force Reloaded (bought it last night, I really like it)
- Crimzon Clover (bought it last night, might already be one of the best I've ever played)
- The three Cave SHMUPs of course are kind of a given (of the three, I'm prioritising Mushihimesama)
- Jamestown (bought it but had to get it refunded due to graphical glitches that made it unplayable, I'll just wait for Jamestown+)

Any recommendations are appreciated, thanks.

Caladrius Blaze is $4.
Astro Port's catalog is $3 each.
Siter Skain's catalog is $4 each.
Team Grybanser Fox's catalog is $2 each.
Exceed series are $3 each.
Vasara Collection is $5 (wtf that was fast).
XIIZeal and DeltaZeal are in a package $10 for both. Exzeal and Trizeal $6 each.
Danmaku Unilimited 2 is a buck, 3 is two bucks.
Eschatos is $9.
Judgement Silversword is $4.
Graze Counter is $5.
Aqua Kitty is $3.
Astebreed is $6.60
Ether Vapor is $4
Raiden IV Overkill is $2.24.
Trouble Witches Origin is $6.
Blue Revolver is $7.50.

Since you brought up Crimzon Clover, WTF WHY IS THIS $2? Holy shit.

Raiden 4 is my favorite on steam, and Satazius is pretty good for a doujin.

Hmm, I was actually about to buy Satazius but someone said in a review that it didn't have controller support despite saying on the store page that it does. Is this true?

I have not checked for a few years, but back in 2015 it struggled with some dpads. That means you had to map your stick to put out signals for analog knob. Zero effort on a Brook PCB stick, for others it involves work.
No idea if they patched it since then.

My PSX pad and USB adapter work with the game straight out of the box.

Not exactly a shmup per say but Sky Rogue is highly enjoyable and very re-playable (especially with the numerous amount of mods and customization you can do)
It's a little similar to Star Fox in terms of art style and feel if that's your thing.
